  • My guess is he makes practice squad so he gets a full chance to develop under Browns observation. We'll know by next spring whether he has what it takes.

Can't, he's played too many games. Full roster or nothing.

That slipped my mind. Thanks for cluing me in. Forgot entirely about P.S. requirements. Strike 1 for Alzheimers. 😵

  • Pryor is 6'4 230.. the good TE's are 20-30 pounds heavier. Not sure he'll fit as a NFL TE because he's just not beefy enough.. and just like Billy Winn, if you try to bulk him up he probably won't be as athletic.

Demaryius and Dez are the same height/weight. Will TP earn the 5th spot.. or will the Browns carry 6, meaning only one TE/HBack on the gameday roster?

I'd bet on TP on 3rd down over either Hartline or Bowe, and maybe over Mayer at this point.

  • Obviously, Flip is familiar with Pryor, so he may know how he might fit in his offense.

    We'll see.

    Mike

    Somebody nailed this one...

Not exactly a season changer, but an interesting development.

    Kind of an important point...

His long speed/build reminds me a lot of Gordon. Both have a long stride, effortless motion, and quick turnover that allow them to outrun most.

Pryor gives value to the team as a 5th receiver (slot), 3rd TE and emergency QB. Get him coached up to be a gunner and you have a valuable player

This... Cumulative value potential... deceptively fast due to effortless, long stride.

Also, does anyone not see the irony in the fact that he's basically Manziel's athleticism in McCown's body? I wouldn't be surprised if we saw him take some snaps at QB just for shiggles.

    Return of the "Wild Dog"?

TBF, not so hard to remember - 8 games or fewer and you're in. 10 players on PS max.

Hes a better backup QB than our current one....

Based on their previous NFL bodies of work, this is true.

I actually don't mind Pryor as a potential backup/ emergency QB. He caught a lot of shit for his poor performance, and deservedly so, but he also did show (very brief) flashes of extraordinary NFL talent - mainly while on the move. His arm strength is lacking, his choices were questionable and he doesn't work up the pocket as well as you'd like, but the guy is a true athletic talent and that's undeniable. He was one of the highest rated athletic talents coming out of high school in the past 20 years, if I recall correctly.

Unfortunately, he's proven that he'll never be a true NFL drop back passer. But it's definitely not a bad move to take a crack at him at TE/WR. He has the same measurables as many of these TE converts, he's said he's willing to make the transition and he's crazy cheap (probably).

We don't have any truly transcendant talent at TE and the players that make up our WR corps, while full of potential, haven't done much of anything recently with the exception of Gabriel.

Also, does anyone not see the irony in the fact that he's basically Manziel's athleticism in McCown's body? I wouldn't be surprised if we saw him take some snaps at QB just for shiggles.

There have been other QB to TE transfers. The guy from Arkansas....who I think got busted for drugs. I think there was a guy from Ohio St. who did it. Didn't Eric Kumerow go from like QB to DE?

  • Pryor as a gunner... That would be something...

Reminiscent of Josh Cribbs, converted QB. Bloody 'ell.....maybe Pryor can return kicks as well. (no worse than anyone else we have doing that job)

Not sure with his tenure in the NFL that he is eligible for the Taxi Squad.

I was thinking the same.....different body types and styles.....but definitely both are guys who are extremely dangerous with the ball in their hand.....

The other similarity is we now have to create ways to do that.....because neither are/were natural receivers or RB's....

    WildDawg anyone???

A lil Pryor highlight tape......he's a bad ass runner if we can get him the ball.....thats for sure...

Watching those highlights, I'm actually more excited for Pryor to win a backup QB spot than anything else.

Tell me again what attributes Manziel has that Pryor doesn't?

The Browns were clear in their press release that he has been signed as a WR, and Pryor has acknowledged his QB career is over as well.

I'm excited to see what he can do as a WR, it is no lose proposition.

I think that was the intention, absolutely.

But you're crazy to think that, if Manziel shows that he just absolutely can't grasp it, Pryor won't be taking some snaps at practice by like Week 4 or 5.

You think they'd say " Oh hey, we're gonna bring on Pryor as a possible QB, but probably a WR, and maybe a TE too." in their official press release? Press releases don't dictate depth chart, nor does a WR designation preclude him from taking practice snaps at QB. WR's and QB's have to learn the same playbook with the same reads, for the most part.

  • Man, Pryor is just one of those dudes who doesn't even look like he's running fast but just blows by people. I don't think he's going to put it all together but it would be quite interesting if he did.

While I believe he is definitely here to be a WR, I also gotta think if he makes the team he make take a few practice snaps and act as an extra emergency backup guy.....but for now, I gotta believe they will focus 100% on getting him going as a wr.....throw too much at him and he has no chance....

Last year we carried 2 QB.s and had shaw on the PS.....I suspect they're gonna carry 3 this year, but maybe having Pryor might lessen the need to do that.....??....dunno....

We do have other QBs as well besides Manziel.

Tell that to anyone in the media.

It's a battle between Thad and Shaw...and Shaw is still eligible for the PS. I think we'll try and stash Shaw and if he gets gobbled up, we'll go with Thad. If Shaw makes it through, we could cut Thad and let it ride with McCown and Manziel knowing that we have Shaw in our back pocket and Pryor as well.

The conspiracy theories are in full effect in my mind now.

How about we trade Manziel, roll with a QB corps of McCown at QB1, Pryor at WR5/QB2, Shaw at QB3, then package picks next season for Cardale (or whoever the top rated QB is).

McCown and Pryor have experience with Flip, plus the size supposedly needed to take a beating in the AFCN. Shaw has the same physical traits as Manziel.

  • Could he make the roster as a receiver and the Browns only keep two QBs thus saving us a roster spot with pryor as emergency QB? Absolutely.

If we had sugned him as a QB would he beat out Thad Lewis in a straight competition for third QB? Probably not.

I think the Browns are anxious to see what he can bring to the table as a receiver the thought of saving a roster spot as a major bonus.
