Scientists meet to dispute global warming theory

    Pete Chagnon - OneNewsNow - 3/8/2009 4:00:00 AM

NEW YORK CITY - The A-list of manmade climate-change skeptics is meeting in New York City for the 2009 International Conference on Climate Change.

The Conference is definitely international in scope. Opening the conference is Vaclav Klaus, president of the Czech Republic and the European Union. When it comes to manmade global warming, Klaus calls that a myth. He is also an outspoken critic of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and says the panel is one-sided and has a political agenda.

Featured at the conference will be more than 70 scientists who do not subscribe to the notion that so-called global warming is driven by manmade emissions of carbon dioxide, one of those being Harrison "Jack" Schmitt -- one of the last astronauts to walk on the moon.

The Conference is being hosted by The Heartland Institute. Dan Miller is the director of public relations at Heartland.

"What we are trying to accomplish with this conference is to present to the politicians and to the public that the debate is not over about global warming or climate change; that there is plenty of room for disagreement; and that sound science shows that the earth is not warming," says Miller.

"For much of the latter part of the 20th century there's been a mild warming as we come out of an ice age -- but the planet today is much cooler than it was a thousand years ago."

Besides the 70+ scientists at this conference, more than 650 scientists worldwide have expressed skepticism over manmade climate change.

CO2 a pollutant? 'Ridiculous,' says scientist

      Pete Chagnon - OneNewsNow - 3/3/2009 6:20:00 AM

A keynote speaker at the upcoming International Conference on Climate Change says carbon dioxide would have to be a miracle compound in order to have any significant global climate impact.

John Coleman has more than 50 years' experience forecasting the weather. He is also one of the 70+ featured scientists who will be attending the 2009 International Conference on Climate Change in New York City March 8-10. As the Obama administration mulls carbon cap-and-trade, Coleman had this to say about CO2.

"CO2? It's a great positive," he states. "Without carbon dioxide in the atmosphere we'd all die because everything we eat would die."

Coleman points out that CO2 is necessary for plant life, which in turn is necessary for animal life. And CO2 is also necessary for the growth of plankton, he adds, which is necessary for ocean life.

"There'd be no life on planet Earth without carbon dioxide," says the veteran weather forecaster. "It's basic, it's necessary. It's ridiculous to call it a pollutant -- but that's precisely where government is going."

Coleman is referring to an attempt by the Environmental Protection Agency to label CO2 as a dangerous pollutant in order for it to be regulated under the Clear Air Act.

i think what burns me about this is that they're playing the strings of people genuinely concerned for the environment to garner support to tax them more.....

Most folks care greatly about the environment, but the man made thing became an emotional, political and economic

manipulative tool which was based on self-serving theories and cherry-picked scientific information.

Add to that, Algorish'es movie on the subject shows a film clip which was a phoney - the icebergs were made with

          styrofoam,

and the oft-repeated notion that all scientists in the world were locked into the theory...

It's too bad. So much energy that could have been used to try to stop the destruction of the virgin

          rain forests.

          CO2 is a poison? pitiful.

Anything in excess is a poison. Try pumping 40% O2 into your lungs for 6 hours and wait for respiratory alkalosis and kidney failure. Good times.

Anyone who is seriously concerned with CO2, is concerned with excess, not CO2 just because.

Then why ignore the role of plant life on this planet that uses CO2 in the photosynthesis process?

If people breathe pure oxygen long enough, they will suffer brain damage and die. That doesn't make O2 a poison...

              does it?

If people truly cared about global warming and CO2, they would be all about stopping the destruction of the virgin

              rain forests on this planet.

Nope. Not a word, not even here, as much as I have brought it up. Don't get it.
