Cals point is about laser technology period. Liberals mocked the idea of using laser technology under Reagan. Today lasers seem to have found a place in our military.

No they didn't. It was about using lasers from space. Sorry but you're an idiot once again. Lasers have been around for decades, nobody thought that at one point lasers couldn't be incorporated into a defensive ground based system. It's just smart people back then understood the modern day logistics of such an operation from space in a poorly thought through program that was just a golden parachute for the defense industry. THe technology wasn't there at the time and smart people unlike yourself knew it. My god look at how much money we've sunk into the F-35 and that's something we've been building for decades now...and look what a piece of shit it is. Of course we invested in laser weapons R&D, we just didn't put into space right away like Reagan wanted...which would have been probably a trillion dollar embarrassement if not more. Eventually i'm sure we will be able to do just that but it has to go in steps. Certain companies will come up with ideas and approach the govt and they'll try and see if it works. Reagan wasn't talking about making investments in these technologies for "decades" in the future...he was talking about putting such weapons platforms in space during his tenure as POTUS. I know that cause I was alive during that time but very young...my father, a well known physicist, staunch republican and unabashed Reagan fanboy...even he was like c'mon this is a little soon.

where do you get i'm whining about not having fighters in outer space? that made no sense. And it appears things worked out as they were supposed to. They spent 3 more decades on r&d and now something can be put on the table that has a shot at being worth a damn. I don't have any particularly special knowledge of laser history, not my field. But I remember Reagans star wars boner and it was an idiotic idea at the time. Reagan wasn't talking about investing in R&D and see what's what in a couple decades. He wanted platforms tested in space during his term. That's why he was an idiot. He was just glassy eyed from all the free money being thrown around in the early 80's when we exploded our currency to the chagrin of a lot of sensible republicans. Of which you are not.

oh and what liberal is making claims that passenger planes are going to be solar powered next year? Which one? They're idiots if they are. Nobody I've heard speak of solar powered planes is talking about this being implemented anytime soon.
