Doesn't come as a huge surprise - I don't think anyone's really thinking that gang members generally obtain their guns through legal means. It's a separate stream from crazy timmy taking his gun and shooting random people on the street.

That being said, do these people have their own gun factory, or do they instead get them from some black market arms dealer? And where does that person get the guns and things from? There's a stream from manufacturer, to middle man, to gang members - taking guns off of gang members is just cutting the weed but not removing the roots.

TY, somebody gets it. Street gangs aren't high tooling their own gear. And it ain't all from "theft". These dudes are getting hooked up through middle men that deal with the gun manufacturers. The how's an why's I dunno, but i'm sure it's big money. These street gangs deal in drugs so i'm sure they're more than fine with high premiums.

Not through the gun manufacturers. These gangs obtain their guns from their employers.

    The cartels.

The cartels want to ensure there product makes it to market and want as much security and firepower along the way to make that happen.

It's pretty obvious how the cartels are getting armed.

I thought I could just walk into a gun show and pick up RPGs and hand grenades. That is what Bloomberg told me.

It is laughable when they say that U.S. firearms are causing the trouble in Mexico when you see these weapon caches full of full auto rifles and anti- tank rockets.

Cartels in South America (or other places outside the US)? Seems like the tougher borders for immigrants would go hand in hand with tougher borders for smugglers. I'm generally in favour of both (though there's more nuance to the immigration issue).

Cartels in the US? It's not like these are small operations, you can't make guns in a back yard, at least not on the scale that's causing the problems.

I've seen someone make a fully auto uzi from sheet metal. It's not entirely difficult if you know what you are doing. And yes I am aware that my friend committed a crime. He has since then dismantled the weapon.

One gun being made is not the issue - it's the scale of the process that's the issue. Of course, there's nothing stopping anybody from making a gun, or a bomb, or whatever from easily obtainable materials, but to supply them on the scale we're seeing requires more than a, I think the american term is 'mom and pop' organisation?

  • Don't ignore the part about them shipping illegal guns to the U.S.

Are you suggesting that guns are just *recently* being smuggled back in the U.S.?
  • Chris must be blaming Obamao for the opening of our borders and gun trafficing.

Say, he got one right for once, eh?

  • The drug cartels and gun traffickers are just looking for a better life for their families.
