  • What Pryor isn't going to be an awesome WR that will strengthen an already awesome WR corps, schucks

  • As I said on an earlier thread, I was worried about only two running backs (excluding the FB) on a team which wants to run to set up the pass. This move makes a lot of sense to me since I was upset they did not take Christine Michael who played just a hair behind Turbin. So even though he starts the season with an injury, I'm glad they got a real quality runner. I guess they want all those TE's for the same reason, run first offense with lots of blockers. But I sure like Pryor's upside.

As per usual your post is 99% bs 1% fact. Both the Pats and Cowboys put in waiver claims when the kitty cats released Pryor.

I think he's talking about here in Cleveland where it matters.

Maybe the Patriots and the Cowgirls would have thought he was good enough to make the 53 man cut. Maybe not.

  • Jesus you people sometimes. I'm as big of an OSU as the most of you here but come on now. Pryor is big, tall and strong sure but so was Greg Little. He didn't show anything that merited him being on the team and we needed a roster spot. Perhaps Housler should have gotten the boot, but it's not like we're letting go of Randy Moss here. We let go a guy who failed at a position already and has been cut three times.

  • Turbin Stats

    Career
    Yards- 928
    Att -231
    Avg- 4.0 yards a carry
    Rec - 43

Almost 1000 yards in two years playing behind the best running back in the league, AND pulling down passes. Looks like a great waiver pick up to me for a team that needs running backs even if he is on the shelf for a few weeks.

Here is an article about his combine numbers the year he was drafted. Strong guy.

Playing drums is pretty easy actually. If you have any sense of rhythm, it takes about 15 minutes to get the basics. Haven't you ever heard AC/DC?

    LOL...

Now this is drumming.... Mike Portnoy

  • Should we call this new runner "Dinner Bell" after a guy with a similar name that once played here in town?

  • I was disappointed when Pryor made the initial cut to 53. Was trying to keep an open mind in hoping that the coaches saw something in him that warranted taking the chance and holding a valuable roster spot.

This is a positive move for the team. Duke and Crow can hold the fort until Turbin is ready to fly.

O-line could still use a hand, though.

  • should've kept Lenz then if we were gonna cut Pryor.

  • For me it boils down to why we cut a player that could see some meaningful snaps on Sunday, or a player that will not be ready to log snaps for several weeks.

Pet and Farmer thought that a currently injured Turbin was worth making room for as opposed to waiting and hoping he is available in a few weeks?

lol... disposable cells crossed my mind as well...

We did not get to see... Does not mean he did not show.

Could we afford the luxury of carrying a raw, developmental WR who has never played the position? Not compared to a third RB... I get that, but we still do not have a third RB.

But compared to a 4th TE who is also a developmental project and has played the position for years? That is what bothers me...

    None really...

Strikes me as even less of a free-wheelin' deal by a substitute GM. And can't imagine Ray was breaking his suspension.

Probably should have said, "If Farmer did map it out, then I'm very impressed... with the foresight, if not the player."

Well Turbin was cut Saturday and the suspension didn't start until Monday right? Don't be TOO impressed.

Jackson wasn't signed by SEA until Monday, 9/7, but was widely believed to be going there before that. So a "which RB is SEA likely to waive" scenario would have been reasonable.

Turbin got his injury settlement and was waived two days later on Wed., 9/9.

  • I guess Im not surprised, considering he was the 53rd player on a roster that obviously was in need of another RB and/or OL....

Usually lots of movement and tweaks going into week 1 and #53 guy is usually the first to go.....

Disappointed he didnt get on the field during camp.....that hamstring hamstrung his opportunity.....

Tour I agree with most of your post but??, I believe Pet and Flip got all they needed to see in Pryor at practice and brought it up in pressers they needed more. We did not see it but they did and moved on to Turpin with Farmer ok prior but do one or the other. Draughn should be 3rd RB Sunday. But at TE I hope your talking Housler and not Bibbs? We got to be planning a lot of double TE formations and Pet keeps repeating all 4 our different. What do you see?

  • I like Bibbs as our third TE...

What I see is a team that featured 2 TE sets a year ago yet was fine with only three on it's roster. Now suddenly we need 4 plus a FB that is a converted TE? Not seeing it...

  • Anyway... Pet wrapped up the decision and tied it with a big, red bow...

Mike Pettine explains why Browns coveted Robert Turbin, moved on from Terrelle Pryor

    http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/article-5/Mike-Pettine-explains-why-Browns-coveted-Robert-Turbin-moved-on-from-Terrelle-Pryor/19928b56-ae63-4fa9-9869-45959892639f

Pettine expects Turbin’s impact to be significant in a young Browns backfield when he returns to full strength. Running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery was a fan of Turbin’s when he was still a college player at Utah State, Pettine said.

“He’s downhill. When you watch him play he is physical. You talk about playing with an attitude, that’s the way he is,” Pettine said. “When you go down the list of attributes what we’re looking for in a running back, and then also just the bonus part of it is the person that we’re bringing to the room – nothing but positive opinions on how he is in the locker room, in the meeting room, on the practice field – it was just a move that we felt was best for us.”

With Turbin’s entrance, of course, came the exit of converted wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, whom the Browns originally kept on their 53-man roster “largely because of his potential,” Pettine said.

“We viewed that spot as the 53rd roster spot and there was a lot of debate over it,” Pettine said. “Terrelle certainly has the ability to make the transition to receiver. We were hopeful that we were going to be able to have that time to do it, but that, to me, is viewed as a luxury. Given where we were when we looked at our running back room, given our circumstances and having always been a Robert Turbin fan, just admiring how he plays and the mentality he takes to the field, that was an opportunity that we felt we couldn’t pass up.”

“Will Terrelle Pryor be successful in the NFL at wide out? There’s a pretty good chance of that,” Pettine said. “But just given the timing for us, it just wasn’t right.”

The whole "downhill" thing also addresses the West trade.

So Winn was 52... Housler can't be lower than 51... can he?

Something tells me they like Housler......(not sure why)....but it wouldnt surprise me to see them keep Housler over Dray(if they decide to go with 3 TE's, that is)......
