  • They tried that in Cincinnati, changing the entire scheme when Johnny came in. I'd like to see him play in the scheme that everyone has been running all through practice and once in a while throw a curve ball into the mix.

  • Johnny didn't look as bad as last year, but he still looked bad.

He made a couple nice throws and some nice scrambles, but when you're holding on to the ball past 3 seconds you're just begging to get your linemen called for holding.

Another thing is, you can't blame the online when Johnny is carrying the ball one handed like a loaf of bread, that's just begging to get stripped. He's got to learn to protect the ball better, hell man one of those fumbles was from Johnny running into his own guy.

He's either not seeing the field or he just can't read the field. He looked like a rookie qb, like what he should have looked like last year.

Maybe at this rate he'll be ready to start when he's 30.

He's got a lot of work to do.

  • It's time to stop playing the recycled quarterbacks and go with the young guy. If Manziel can't do it we find out this year. Hoyer was not the answer either. They took him out and put in Mallet.

The play calling didn't help. I'm so disappointed in our coaching staff.

They won't beat Tennessee if they don't change something. Mariota is mobile and accurate and his defense is getting better. Thanks to Ray Horton.

I thought we added the players that would really make a difference in the draft. What happened?

  • I understand the excuses of "well let's see him get 1st team reps" and "and the play calling was bad." It's true pretty much the whole team was bad too...

The 10-minute sample of McCown was great. Obviously the guys not the future - and he may implode like many of his predecessors, but for winning now he's still our best bet.

To me, Manziel looked like he may be good enough to be a backup at some point. Not sure where the praise is coming from. He had some ups, but mostly downs (Yea I understand the excuses "1st team reps" and blah, but we've seen very little positive from Johnny overall).

I hope he succeeds and leads us to wins, and I will drink and cheer on every weekend. But I'm not particularly optimistic.

He was low a lot, and missed the easy toss to hawkins in the end zone. The throw to hawkins may be a tough throw for me, but for an NFL QB it should have been an easy 6.

Agreed. JFF was not impressive at all. I was waiting for him to implode and he did just that.

  • that and a truck load of stupid self-inflicted penalties close to record setting status..

dray makes that first catch from mccown things would be MUCH different. mccown healthy and we win by 20.

Turnover ratio 5-1, penalties 109- 30 you don't win many games with those stats.

  • ok I heard from a friend of MKC's dogs, vets, neighbors friends wife that they were members of Skull and Bones. Manziels father paid Josh in gold , blood and oil ten times his NFL salary to go full kamikaze beginning in preseason game 4. The reason obviously was to get Johnny on the field right away. Ok have to go wife says I need to take some meds 🙂

  • Do you have any extra? I might need some to get through this season.

  • Hole in the theory is that oil is now just about worthless. 😛

  • yessir.

i've always said invest in oxygen.

Nitrogen is the future. Bigger molecules, and tastes great with salsa.

    Maybe its HASH OIL 😎

  • Lol for my post to really get you thinking hash oil would help.

  • man....you can't make this shit up!

  • Last I heard his father was selling cars in Kilgore, Tx..

  • Been trying to PM You DNnot sending for some reason?

  • I thought Manziel looked good scrambling against the Jets. He looked quicker than last season and made some good runs and seemed to know when he had made as much yardage as possible before taking a slide. He threw a great td pass and this time around got behind center like he was in control and running the offense. I don't know if he is the answer or not but his effort during the off season showed in his performance. Manziel was running an offense that was struggling to get the running game going and that always makes it an uphill battle for any qb. Manziel was extending plays, making plays with his feet and showed me the potential he has. He needs to keep mistakes down and not turn the ball over but that might only come by getting playing time.

It doesn't matter if it is Manziel or McCown this team has got to get the running game going or it will be a long season. They have the offensive line and good enough running backs to do it.

  • Yes and among my keys to this loss is the fact that not only did he sit out the preseason basically but so did so many of the other players. I blame the coach for that unless these guys were really hurt. And if they were where the f*** is the conditioning coach? You can't let a team sit out the preseason like they are multiple year Allstars. Also whatever game plan they had together gets thrown out the window as soon as Johnny comes in. They did that against Cincinnati last year and it's still stupid. And Johnny has to learn to hold on to the ball. Same thing for any quarterback that decides to take off running.

Another thing a quarterback needs to do is to get in sync with his receivers. No preseason no getting in sync.

  • I just don't see too many quarterbacks who will be successful in the NFL if they don't have a running game to set up a passing game. Last season when we were leading the division half way through the season one of the things that struck me was we had a decent running game going. In the last part of the season the running game dropped off and so did the wins. I liked the scrambling Manziel did against the Jets but you can't have your qb be your primary running back.

I thought Tour made an interesting observation about our offensive line with the holding calls. A totally different style qb comes in like Manziel over McCown and now offensive lineman are wanting to grab defensive lineman who are trying to pull away to go after a scrambling qb.

  • "Last season when we were leading the division half way through the season one of the things that struck me was we had a decent running game going. In the last part of the season the running game dropped off and so did the wins."

Ben Tate. Or, Alex Mack? I know who my money's on!

  • "A totally different style qb comes in like Manziel over McCown" - did you not notice McCown making plenty of scrambles? he was 3-22, IIRC, so it's not like he's not moving around back there.
