Agreed.....
And, REALLY, wish Johnny would live up to his billing.....Ive heard a LOT more about how great he is than I have about our D....
Now....if we could just find a QB who elevates those around him, as opposed to one who needs a great D, great O line, great WR's and a great running game to succeed......
LOL! Send this on to Famous Jameis. He'll be happy to know he is the reason they suck.
On second thought send it to Carr, twatwater and Bortles too. They all obviously suck.

Im positive I didnt say that Johnny is the reason our team played poorly....I said he didnt raise the level of play....big difference...
I simply listed all the excuses you have put out there so far.....
And Im also sure I didnt say anything about Jameis.....though he started out about as bad as Johnny did....but how that has any bearing on Johnny is beyond me...????
And, I wouldnt say they all sucked.....Carr and Twatwater at least were good enough to play their first season....... and Carr & Bortles were both on a really bad teams.....and they all looked better than Johnny.....by miles and miles....
except for carr they all pretty much do suck.
pretty much....

Concussion protocol, just the way it goes.
I have no doubt McCown gives us the better chance to win, but the NFL doesn't mess around with any head injuries anymore.
People are overly excited for Manziel and I'm not sure why. Hopefully he tears it up and we get a W at home though. I'll probably be tailgating @ the muni lot.

People want to see how he will do in his first full game.....after a year under his belt.....after rehab.
I don't know that overly excited is the right term. (perhaps for a few Johnny fanboys).
Overly curious is more like it.
He is, after all, right now, THE starting Quarterback of the Cleveland Browns.....and we want anyone holding that position to do well.
If it were Austin Davis, I would be equally curious.
If things turn bad....we may see Ausome Austin in there, no?

Mud-they are not excuses but an attempt to make this a team loss and not another scapegoating of a Browns QB. Our lines (and I count the OLB's as a part of that in the 3-4) sucked on both sides of the ball. This was a team loss but many here are insisting it's JM's loss. I have never denied he made a lot of mistakes the second half. But I don't throw him under the bus for a poorly playing TEAM. We could not run, we dropped passes, we could not set the edge and we could not stop Marshall. Yes, our QB also had some ball security problems. But the loss was not his alone. And if we want him to succeed then the whole team needs to do it's job, not just JM. Bottom line-how about we blame the whole damn team. They sucked.
-
It's not luck. And it wasn't his "first read", it was play design. They knew Jets would be playing to stop first down and would be sending pressure. Manziel took three steps and fired the ball. Benjamin for past Cro, and the safety was flat footed/parellel and watching the 1st down marker.Funny enough when I watched that same play I saw a QB lock in on his first read, didn't look off the safety and pulled a Derek Anderson - one read wonder.
I saw the same thing Tour did. A QB that decided where he was going long before the ball was thrown. Lucky Crow was peaking, if not that's a pbu or int.

This is how I know you have zero idea what you're talking about.
First off - Johnny looks at Benji the WHOLE way. Never turns his head.
Second -The corners bail immediately on the snap, indicating deep 1/3's all around.
Third- boundary safety is 8 yards off the ball and attempts to rob the #3 but opens his hips too soon, if he plays with discipline he gets over the top. He didn't play flat footed at all.
Finally - Crow keeps his eyes in the backfield the whole time. I'm not sure why. He's fast enough and tall enough to deny any home run ball to Travis. Simply a poor play by him.
Here's the play, have a look because clearly you've forgotten.

I havent seen a single person blame Johnny or say it was his loss.....and Ive seen a LOT of people talk about how poorly the team has played(including Johnny)....
However, I(and others, I think) have noticed your rampant defenseof Johnny, who has never played well(for us)....while pointing heavily to the OL, WR's and Defense to "explain" Johnnys performance away......the difference being that at least the D, OL and WR's have performed well in the past, while Johnny has not....
So, while we are NOT blaming Johnny for the loss, you seem to be blaming the "Browns" for Johnnys play....
Oline and D will get it together....probably this week.....hoping Johnny does too...if so, those WR's will suddenly seem better(kinda like when Josh is in).....
I just want to win....hell, I get all excited to see him play(every time)....but then it ends in disappointment(every time).....and Im referring to his play and not necessarily the final score......meaning, we could lose and Id still be happy with a good performance from him.....
-
I know Im looking forward to seeing him with everything properly aligned for him to succeed....
A whole year to get ready...
Recovered from whatever it was that ailed him....(pain meds for that elbow?)
Full week of 1st team reps...
Full week of game planning....
Softer defense on the opposing team....
Rookie QB on opposing team.....
O line and D on a mission to prove they are better than last week...
Last week, saw Johnny tear off some really nice runs....a few good passes.....now, lets correct the mistakes and have a big game!!!

Well....here is how Johnny should view this: Mano a Mano vs. Mariota. Heisman winner vs. Heisman winner.
The Little Rat (an affectionate nickname I am calling JFF...because that is what he looks like to me) needs to take it as a challenge.
He won the Heisman 2 years before MM....and he should feel that it is HE and not the newbie that should represent the Heisman club best here.
So, do you think The Little Rat has the gonads to gnaw on that piece of cheese?
Well....here is how Johnny should view this: Mano a Mano vs. Mariota. Heisman winner vs. Heisman winner.
Well, CBS certainly got the game it wanted. Another Heisman battle. The problem is that I'm sure that this was the contest the Titans actually wanted this week. Manziel is still learning basic quarterback discipline. The Titans were awful on defense last year but Manziel has never played against a Dick Lebeau led defense. I'm sure that he will have some interesting things dialed up for him. I'm sure he'll try to flush him out of the pocket which Manziel likes to do, making him likely for the big play...or the big mistake.
Mariota can take off like Manziel...but he's shown he won't until he goes through his reads or if the pocket completely collapses. He has shown he can move with the pocket...Manziel tends to run from the pocket. Mariota should have a harder time against the Browns defense, which is much better than the Bucs. But Mariota doesn't seem to make a lot of mistakes, limiting his chances of turning the ball over. Mariota likely won't have the leading receiver on the Titans, TE Delanie Walker who still has a sprained wrist. And our best corner Jason McCourty is still out with a groin injury.
Should be fun to watch.

1. Yes, it was a three-step and pop designed play, and it worked because Cro was looking and anticipating a shorter throw to try to prevent a 1st down.
2. That's great, I'm glad you understand defensive concepts. That only strengthens my point, because the play design and throw from Manziel beat the very coverage that should have prevented that play.
3. You might be right here, he still played with poor technique and was not in the right spot. How does that have anything to do with Manziel's read and throw? It doesn't.
4. It was 3rd and 19 or 20. Again, Cro was looking for a throw to the 1st down marker. Manziel executed the play that was called, and it worked. Maybe he trusted his athleticism and size advantage and underestimated the Browns' testicles. Benjamin also recorded the 2nd fastest speed in the NFL in Week 1 on that play. It would have been a good play had Cro not hesitated and was closer in coverage at the catch point.
-
Fair enough mudfly. But you have to admit there are some real haters on here that just want to be right about saying he would not be a good QB. They tend to be the one liners and it's always the same one line. Most of my reaction is to those people who refuse to pass all the blame around but focus on one individual. Do I think he will play better when the rest of the team does too? Guilty as charged. And I won't be happy if he plays well but the team loses. I came on this site to share in a turnaround. It is fixable.

Maybe. The O-line is still a work in progress with late pre-season changes. We certainly have to run the ball with authority. If not, Mariota won't have good passing lanes and it'll be a long day.

The Titans don't have the hogs up front. If the Browns can't run the ball this week, it's a problem. Cam Erving is a good run blocker.

The Jets threw a lot of different looks at Manziel last week. The Jets also have better personnel than the Titans. Scheme and approach do matter, though, and the Titans are no slouches. If the Browns can get the running game going (I think they can), they'll be more competitive than Tampa.
It should be fun. I'm interested in seeing Mariota play again after that great start to his career last week. I was of the opinion trading multiple 1st round picks to get him would have been a mistake, and this game won't justify that or not, but it'll be informative.

Whisenhunt incorporating that read-pass into the offense was genius. It pauses the DBs, and worked for Mariota at Oregon. It worked for him against a Tampa defense that would probably allow 50 pts to Oregon.
We'll see how the Browns handle it. I think they'll be much better if they can jam Wright and Douglas. Those free releases were killing Bucs DBs.

Well, Flip should have the game plan more taylored to Manziel this time around vs last week, so it might be interesting.
Also saw Orchard's supposed to play this week, don't know about Cooper yet.

Well, I am not sure that we can judge all that from one preseason and one single game. Remains to be seen.
-
Well, the Browns had 5 turnovers.....and I don't mean the cherry/blueberry type. And yes, while JFF was responsible for some of those.....we have to see how this team does without TOs....because they won't win anything with that record.
-
tia,
Forget JFF.... it's now JMM... Johnny "Mindreader" Manziel...
When JMM launches the ball the D is two yards deeper than his WR yet he knows that the CB is going to pull up short on 3rd and 19...
Apparently you can make this kind of stuff up.
Also made up... "in stride"...
-
Nevertheless tour, it would be nice if the D lived up to the billing and not allow a go ahead score just before halftime or an answering TD after we score the first TD.
There was so much invested about our "top 5" D, that I actually began to buy it. I have significantly lowered those expectations.
Same goes for this "running team" behind our "top 5" O line. Where the hell was it?
I won't try to say JM had a good 2nd half because he didn't. But no one can tell me our D was stellar or that the OL was opening holes for the running game either. Lines win football. Ours did not.

And our D was handed short fields on their own 28 and 24...
It's a team game... I get that.
I want to see a D that stuffs the run, sacks the QB and doesn't INT only to then fumble the ball right back.
I also want to see a QB that does not miss 2 TDs on the same play before settling for a FG.
But I'll settle for an absence of blaming the D for his lack of competitive control...
Deal?

Mariotta is going to be welcomed to the NFL.
He will be our bitch, mark my words.
