  • Mack's head is already elsewhere if you ask me

  • I'm starting to lead toward you start Johnny at Oakland. Since Oakland sucks, it should give you your answer on him one way or the other. Either he blows it and you know he needs more time developing on the bench, or he is solid and benefits from that last tuneup game before the meat of our schedule.

On the other hand, we're trying to have a good season, and on paper IMO, that required winning 2 of these first 3 games. It's not as much of a must win as yesterday was, but it's still kind of a must win.

  • I'm waiting for Tour's analysis but Mack was suspect today. Apart from a couple of penalties, Bitonio looked good. Maybe I'm wrong, though.

Yep. He has been scary bad. Especially run blocking which had previously been a strength.

  • The two fumbles seemed nearly identical, too long in the pocket without the internal clock saying, "Get ready to eat one." I'll watch the game again later today and see if that is accurate, but that was my "live" take on it. So the question is do the Browns have a "fumble play" for the OL when they get beat to the QB? 😁

He needs to just stand behind 5 cones (and maybe one shorter come with dreads). Have a buzzer go off. Then have a pugil stick whack him after 3.5 seconds. He'll know.

  • I nowhere near ready to say Johnny is the man or should now be the starter.....yes, he took a big step in the right direction.....and, yes, is flashing some of those skills we've been hearing about.....

But, still looks like he has a ways to go......rough spots, stalled drives, fumbles, etc.....

Pettines dilemma is do you go with him and see if he's the guy and risk a back slide?.....or do you go with your veteran starter, knowing Johnny will get another chance somewhere down the line?.....

Im taking the same road as Tour on this one......meaning I dont give Johnny the job....But I do give him one more game......keep Josh in the garage for a little extra healing....hook the short leash on Johnny and take him for another walk......

    Then.....re-evaluate......

  • Also the first team reps are much more valuable to Johnny than they are to a guy he's been in the league for well over a decade.

The penalties were because he got beaten and was trying to rescue the QB. I'll watch for it today in replay.

This is exactly where I am too-he's not there yet but Manziel clearly has his head right and is the future perhaps of the position. Losing a position due to injury may not be the best example, but it's clear to me McCown will roll with class if that's the decision. Plus, a journeyman 36 year QB getting paid nearly $4 mil to sit on the bench isn't the worst gig in the world. But yes, give Manziel this next week and if he keeps progressing like he did today it's time to give him the football, at least IMO.

  • OK. I've kinda been a prick to the Texas boys, because I have been thinking, "can we wait until he wins a football game?"

Mission accomplished. Yesterday was fun, I enjoyed being a Browns fan.

    Zombo

  • Right on brother, right on.

  • I never wanted Johnny but I am fully rooting for him now, he deserves credit for trying to return his life around.

He's got his head down and worked hard and he looks a lot lot better now, still a ways to go f course, but he can win NFL matches, beforehand we didn't know if he could.

  • I didn't have much hope for him going in but if he can continue to develop he should continue starting. Sink or swim season.

  • look at all the johnny haters turn into some of johnny's sprung little college town hoores'. Should I get knee pads for you guys with the Browns logo on em? lmfao. I'm playin with you guys. He's still got work but it's nice to see something work right for the kid. He may shit the bed next week in Oakland though, what are we gonna say then? Lets give the kid this season to prove himself.

Sink or swim? Not for me. Learn to swim this season, then next year throw him to the sharks.

so i guess your mum didn't like johnny so much?

  • dude. we beat the titans at home. love what the kid did yesterday but it's like betting on a hot horse....cool your jets (loss) before we anoint him king shit.

i'd still draft QB #1 next year.

Thats the lingering question.....and one I think we should try to figure out this year.....

Do we need to draft a QB #1....or not....?

If he's "the" guy, then lets not burn that pick.....and if he's not, then we need to know that before the season ends....

  • If Hoge is a man of his word, there will be one really big orange and brown knot on your television screen Sunday night.

I did not see him on the post game shows....was he wearing it....or was he even on TV?

  • Manziel came into the league totally delusional. He was going to stroll in without doing any hard work and game preparation and be a good NFL quarterback. Maybe 30-40 years ago a quarterback could do that but not in today's NFL. Manziel is a smart guy and made the adjustments. He has worked hard and we see the results on the field. He is only going to get better with the work ethic and attitude he has now.

You mean like at the 50 second mark of this?

People want to see how he will do in his first full game.....after a year under his belt.....after rehab.

I don't know that overly excited is the right term. (perhaps for a few Johnny fanboys).

Overly curious is more like it.

He is, after all, right now, THE starting Quarterback of the Cleveland Browns.....and we want anyone holding that position to do well.

If it were Austin Davis, I would be equally curious.

If things turn bad....we may see Ausome Austin in there, no?

I am fully not looking forward to him starting this week, tbh, if that changes anything. I have to prep myself for vile comments about him on this board, and a bunch of idiotic, ignorant comments about the Browns, Flip, Pettine, our receivers, our offensive line, our defense, and the city of Cleveland on the A&M board. I hope that, as it has this week, most of the discussion at least here is level-headed.

Really? Like we give a shit what a bunch of goat ropers think of this city?

Notwithstanding.....the city was beautiful this weekend. Perfect weather. Alive and hopping. Incredible vistas.
