Its time to Fire Pettine

  • For better or worse we're stuck with Pettine for years. Firing him even next year retains are status as one of the league's biggest joke stations that no reputable coach would come to. It would take Cowher years to turn this franchise around, know why I'm sure of that? Cause the moment he got here Cowher would likely cut 90% of this roster and start the fuck over. This teams talent level is a joke and frankly I'm blaming the FO more than the coaching staff. Anyone catch who #52 was that was shitting all over our O line, stopping the run and pass rushing like the D-O-double G? Some 2nd year hooha out of Buffalo named Khalil Mack. What a loser. Why would you want a player like that on your team I don't understand. Talent is so overrated. Talented players just bring your whole organization down.

I somewhat disagree. I feel that Pettine overestimates our secondary by playing man coverage all the time. Our linebackers don't get enough pressure on the QB which forces our secondary to be perfect or give up a big play..

I see your point . . . Still feel Pettine goes soft at key points in the game. At least we both agree that our linebackers are sub-par for this system they're trying to run.

Our LB'ers are just garbage. Can we all finally just agree on that? They don't stick their heads in there and tackle...they grope at the thigh pads in hopes of slowing the ball carrier down enough for someone else to drop the wood. I'm tired of this shit. These guys are junk. Dansby and Kirksey can get cut for all I care at this point. Mingo too. Robertson was the only guy who's shown half a heart on our LB'ing corp and he's hurt now. It's just a joke. I knew they didn't pass the eye test last year, i fucking knew it. Too many people here were like no dude you're crazy our LB'ers are awesome you should see their PFF's!!!

from what I can see they just go for the opposing players' dicks on every play. We need men not faggots out there on the field.

I doubt Jimmah is very happy about the big stinking turd the Browns laid on the hometown crowd today. From the demeanor of Pet's post game presser- he knows it too. Three down, 13 to go.

I truly have to wonder how long Haslam will put up with yet more "build for the future" games.

  • Well he can't fire Pettine. Firing Chud after 1 year basically hamstrung him with any coach he signed after that. You guys can trash Chud all you want but the owner made the call and he HAS to give the guy enough time to see his system through. No one is coming here to Cleveland just to coach the Browns. You all can drop that fantasy that there's someone just dying to coach up here in NE OH. They'll come for the proper organizational setup, where they aren't getting shot in the dick everyday.

  • Pettine is not going anywhere. This is a .500 team talent wise right now. This was McCown's first full game. Johnny probably makes the throw that Josh underthrew to Benjamin on the sideline the first time on the final drive. Still the offense can move the ball with McCown. At the same time, if he is going to fumble the ball away you cant make the argument to keep playing him. I'd prefer he made it half the season so Johnny has time enough to take in the playbook and hopefully keep the job. McCown hasn't done so poorly that he should be benched yet.

How the hell is Aldon Smith playing and Josh Gordon out for the season? We need his size, this micro wr line up is hard on a QB. The window is so small to make a play. Hawkins and Gabriel have hardly been a factor this season. Barnidge will become the go to guy for this reason.

The oline is not playing great football, but it's not terrible. McCown held on too long a few times today. It's clear teams do not respect our wrs, for obvious reasons. The rbs are suffering to the point they are almost useless. IMO they need to come out pass 9 out of 10 plays to back up the defense. Beyond that, I think the playing calling has been descent the last 2 games.

Is Paul Krueger going to show up this year? Armonty is the only guy out there trying to make plays. The tackling is fucking awful. Joe is great.....as a No. 2. He's getting abused by guys that play big. Whitner is close to the end guys, he is being targeted in coverage every other play. He's lost a step. The second Bademosi came on the field, the Raiders went right after him. I still don't know why he's here. I'm happy to see Desir is getting better though. I think he will give us what we wanted from Gilbert.

It comes down to the LBs, are they going to show up every game or not? Krueger, Mingo, Orchard I'm talking to you. You can't just be a specialist, you have to stop the run, it's part of your job.

But with all that said this is an 8-8 team. This is what I expected to see from a developing team. This was winnable and we'll pull out some of these games this year.

Oh and who decided to give Chris Simms a microphone for fuck sake? Can he doing anything better than his father?

Have to go back to comment I made last week...

Part of Pet's system promise was that has was, and his coaches would be, flexible enough to adapt to the talent on the roster. What micro level evidence have we seen of that? Give me a name... any name.

Now add the macro level where it seems we're hell bent on building a game-manager, play-action Offense upon a great O-line that cannot open a crease for a runner and a great Defense that can't keep the game within reach.

Where's the flexibility? On any level?

  • god, i'm glad i don't drive 9 hours to cleveland to meet people i literally want to smack in the face realizing what a bunch of whiny bitches they are.

1 and 2? like we haven't seen that before? same record as half the flippin teams that got picked to make it to the playoffs. you know why other fans laugh at us? cuz 2 losses and we're asking for the coach to be fired.

what a disgrace half you fags are.

Interesting comments. I'm pretty much always opposed to firing coaches in their first 3-4 years. Pettine is not doing the things he was supposed to be good at though. The defense is genuinely embarrassing.

To his credit, whatever it's worth (and maybe that's a decent amount), the team played 60 minutes for him today.

  • And I'm not in favor of firing him either.. not yet anyway, but so far he's not living up to his own billing.

I'd love to hear his answers to the questions.

  • As Rust Cohle would say, I hope the media starts "askin the right f**kin questions."

Tour you nailed it. & Mik- this ain't bitchin' it's just realistic observation.

Right- run the ball- stop the run- we can't do either. The D-line was supposed to be a strength- until we made some very questionable moves. We're making journeymen running backs look like Adrian Peterson. I swear on one jailbreak run- there was a hole 15 feet wide, I could have made 10 yards on that play. Pet- I thought you were a defensive genius- for the last 8 games or so, you're looking more like Romeo Crenell on a bad day.

Even more disconcerting- and I'll let Tour analyze this one- what the hell has happened to our run blocking? This was supposed to be a studly offensive line. It can't just be Mack- we can't get any push anywhere.

Hey Mike- it took you & Flip an entire half to figure out we couldn't run the ball worth shit? My point of view is we have exactly one threat on offense- Benjamin- and our game manager quarterback failed miserably this past Sunday getting him the ball.

Another observation- we drop the next two on the road- entirely possible- may as well hand the reins over to Johnny- before the season is REALLY over before it started. Alluding to what Tour said- if that scenario doesn't stick a bomb up Pettine's ass, nothing will, and he'll go down with his Neanderthal game plans.

But the Raiders and Titans at least have an offense! It's Farmer that needs a head check. No receivers equal no run game and every team in the NFL knows that! I don't see the Browns winning 7 games. You need weapons to have a run game.

Atlanta Falcons would like a word with you. They disagree.

    @tiamat63 said:

But now they have a running game. Devonta Freeman had 141 yard on 30 carries with 3 touchdowns. While Julio Jones had 154 rec. and 2 TDs.

So now they have a running game, are 3-0 and what's more they really looked good.

I was just, pointing out that Crowell should be getting the ball 20-30 times. Defenses only have to shut down the run

Dallas was the perfect example last year giving Murry the bulk of the carries Ok,they lost Romo but Randle had 3 touchdowns and Dunbar 2 McFadden 1.

Weeden was the reason they-gave up a big lead.

Even Bellicheat is grinding it out with Lewis ( was he ever a Brown) and Blount

Put that all aside and it's our inability to control the line of scrimmage. Poor tackling in the open field, lack of playmakers and just occasional blitzes

Yeah we've seen 1&2 before, and we usually end up with what . . . 5 wins?

This franchise after 15 years, 3 owners, 8 coaches, 7 GM's and 23 QB's (8 drafted, 4 in the first round) is still a fucking joke from the top down . . . Laughing stock of the league.

We have an owner who cleaned house twice in his first 2 years of ownership. We've also come to find out he isn't afraid to pull rank which makes it very difficult for a GM to do his job as best he sees fit. He had the chance to open up a new chapter in this franchise's history and completely screwed the pooch . . . Good luck ever getting any proven front office staff / head coach to come here in the future.

Let's move on to our GM . . . Who is currently on a four game suspension for the text scandal. Which by the way was a large factor in running Shanny out of town . . . Who I wasn't completely in love with, but this has left us with a rookie coordinator . . . Since we can't get anyone in here with ANY kind of prior experience. His drafts have been questionable considering the glaring needs of this team.

So let's get on to the actual team which Pettine is running

On defense we are running a system which requires a stable of skilled linebackers, which we don't currently possess. We have let a lot of good linemen go because we were so deep at the position . . . This makes zero sense. Our linebackers look amateurish, can't get pressure on a QB, can't set an edge, or bring down someone who hasn't already been hit by a DL or Secondary. It's not like we've been trying to stop top tier offenses . . . It's a complete fucking disaster, and huge disappointment.

On offense we are starting 36 year old journeyman QB (yes . . . another one), while our first rounder in his second year is riding the pine. I'm by no means a Johnny fanboy, but where exactly are we gonna get starting McCown . . . 8 wins? . . . If God rains down angels and miracles. There is no point in not letting Johnny start and see if he is going to either progress and start treading water or he sinks into the lake with the rest of the poor bastards we've drafted at QB.

If I've got to watch sub-par QB play I'd rather it be from someone with a possible upside.

We have exactly one playmaker on offense in Benjamin, who legit thought he might not even make the team . . . Speaks volumes of our offensive coaching. We currently have a WR on our roster who is getting 9 million guaranteed dollars to do exactly dick (nice pick up Ray). The rest of the corp is so talented that Gary Barnidge is leading them all in completions. Our backs have combined for less than 200 yards in three games . . . Running behind a supposed pro bowl, top tier, all pro O-Line. I'm not exactly sure what the fuck happened to that unit, but could it be that they are running a rookie coordinator's scheme? It's a complete fucking disaster, but not really unexpected.

I'm losing faith in Pettine and not purely due to the losses, but because of the decisions he is making. I'm sure some of them are due to the fact that we have an owner who expects the dumpster fire he bought to be put out overnight. It's a giant fucking snowball running down a mountain starting at the top.

I'm not being negative I'm just calling a spade a spade . . . The situation is fucking negative. The one positive I took from today is that we seemed to have found ourselves one helluva punter.

All that said, I do agree with you. For the love of god and all things holy don't fire anyone, because who are we going to get in here if we do? Let these guys give it a real go. I do still like Pettine and think Farmer needs to do something to help him out this offseason. Maybe we'll get a couple linebackers who can perform, another legit threat at wideout and a true Franchise QB. I'm still rooting for Johnny and think he could be that guy if he stays on the wagon.

Fuck man, I'm just tired of seeing shit play on Sunday.

Are any of these rookies capable of replacing the starters?

And which ones have been on the field the last 3 games.

I'd appreciate it if someone would give me a info regarding the rookies. I know Shelton starts. Who else?

  • Erving played a few snaps. Not sure on Orchard. Duke has played. Cooper played some today; hadn't before. Don't think we've seen Campbell but could be wrong. Mayle is gone. Johnson is the starting FB. Telfer and Pullard have not played. Ifo is on IR or whatever.

  • We have lost seven of the last eight matches we've played, at some point the coach is going to be questioned?

  • Originally, I thought this was a stupid post...Fire Pettine??!!! Hell...he is almost a rookie coach. After giving it more thought...digesting the idea...I'm all for it. All of us long time fans, are frustrated trying to figure out how we could suck so bad for so long. It can only be coaching. The players may not be Pro Bowlers or Hall of Famers, but they can't be this bad. The law of averages, would have us winning more than this. We continue to hire rookie, unproven head coaches, that hire all their buddies who they owe favors to. This is what we end up with. The problem is now, we will never attract a winning, proven HC. We are firmly planted as the joke of the NFL. This can only continue, and we are idiots to expect anything different. Think about it....can all those first round draft picks really be busts?...or has the coaching staffs here been so littered with morons who are clueless in coaching talented players, that these players either lose confidence, and never acheive their potential, or go elsewhere and blossom. This is simple troubleshooting....process of elimination, thinking. It really can't be anything other than terrible coaching. I like Pettine, but the business is all about winning, and he is a proven loser. Fire them all, and hire...God I hate to say it...Brian Billick, or some other HC who would have enough ego to overlook the quagmire of failure that we are in.

  • Can't fire Pettine, the cycle has to stop somewhere.

  • It is a stupid post! I bet the only thing any of you were good at right from the get was playing with yourself! Just think how long it's been since Bellicheat stood on our sideline and everyone wanting his head....how did that turn out for ya? It's called living and learning and we must give a coach enough time to do both. They look sloppy....d just standing around and looking into the crowd as the ball's being snapped.
