To pick up on Shep's post, I'd love if Wells were available at #36, but I have a hard time seeing him getting by Houston, then Philly, then Philly again, then the Cardinals, etc.

So what about Donald Brown at #36?

He seems to have moved into the #3 spot for a running back, behind Moreno and Wells, but ahead of McCoy and the rest.

people are really high on brown right now, and we have a glaring need at RB. his college production was huge while at a non-powerhouse school, he tested well (though he didn't participate in the bench press, which is a disappointment), and there aren't any glaring character flags.

a lot depends on what we do with our first pick. if we go D at five, i like brown a lot. if we go crabtree at five, i'd rather see us bolster our defense at 36.

I have to say, he is certainly the flavor of the month and supposedly the best kid in the draft. But when I watch the tape I just don't see it.

it's only sensible to be wary of guys who rise really quickly during the off-season. i haven't seen brown play enough to really know what to think of him.

I guess this is based on picking a OLB with #5 which is a great need.

I really like Donald Brown but when we don't even have a SS on the roster, how can we look at a RB. RB may be a "need", but it isn't a "must". SS is a "must". WR very well could be a "must".

"needs" that rank up there with RB are Center, DL and CB. We're old at TE, RT and ILB.

            WE need more picks........................................

I don't know what strong safety is worth the #36.

Delmas is more of a free safety, and I think he'll be gone.

If you feel this way about Brown (UConn), you have to feel the same way about McCoy (Pitt) as they both played an admittedly weaker Big East schedule. But the BE isn't exactly the MEAC or nuthin'...

That being said, I like McCoy much, much better.

Nobody here is as concerned about Rashad Jennings? Dude played at LIBERTY.

Check the tape, though. Seems like a lot of odd runs with the type of cutbacks that you never see in the NFL.

And some nice ones toward the end.

Delmas can play both but he isn't that thumper that Moore aned Chung are. He is more of a FS. Personally, I think you can get a top SS at #50. If I couldn't trade down, I think I would have to take a hard look at Crabtree and get my OLB at #36. Looking at at Barwin, Sintim or English.

I just don't think I could give Orakpo $20 million of guaranteed money and hope he could convert to an impact OLB. Didn't we try that already with Wimbley. Sintim played the 3-4 in college and is an OLB already who you can give at $3 million guaranteed to. How much better will Orapko be then Sintim, Barwin or English.

If I have to pick #5 then I want a for sure impact and the best I see on the board is Crabtree.

This dude can pound the rock, but he lacks breakaway speed. He reminds me of Westbrook.

                        Agreed.

A lot of people are now talking about us taking Chip Vaughn at #50. He's got some nice athletic skills, but he seems to be a bit slow reacting to what's in front of him. Even in the BC game, where he made a lot of big plays, his poor reaction speed was noticeable.

And when I saw a Wake DB deliver a big hit, it usually was Alphonso Smith, not Chip Vaughn.

Brian Westbrook doesn't pound the rock and has breakaway speed.

And some pretty bad stuff for Clint Sintim.

Brown reminds me a bit of how DeAngelo Williams looked at Memphis: not the most explosive RB, but a guy who uses subtle cutbacks to knife through defenses. I'm not sure he has Williams' vision (a skeptic's take here), but I think he'll be a solid pro, something you can't say for sure about some of the other possible 2nd Round RB's: McCoy because of his lack of size and poor attitude, Shonn Greene because of his past character/weight issues, Andre Brown because of questions about his durability, and Rashad Jennings because of level of competition concerns (though I'm not sure this is much of an issue).

First of all, Brown is #1 in the character poll. Good kid. Smart. Personable.

He does two things that are throwbacks and a lost art in the current NFL: best stiff arm in the country and follows his blockers like few I've seen before - at any level.

I've seen him play his entire career and he would be a great #2 or #3 round pick.

I think Brown will end up going in round one and his stiff arm is not better than Wells.........I see em both being gone by 36..............

Agreed. 1:02 worries me particularly. That looked way too much like a HS football game highlight reel, for me to be sold on this guy...

I disagree. Beanie Wells has the best stiffarm in the country. But otherwise, I agree haha.

I don't think he's in the same league with DeAngelo Williams. He reminds me of a more awkward Michael Bennett. Decent wheels, but lacks that fluid shake and bake that allows backs to change direction without gearing down. Peterson has this like few ever have, so no use comparing people to him. But that's the idea.

I'd prefer a slower guy with a little bit more of a straight-ahead style and some power, like a young Reuben Droughns or a Michael Turner.

Then again, if you put Donald Brown in Denver or Atlanta, any place where it's one cut and go, I'm sure he'd do just fine.

                                      Finding running backs is easy.

If the world according to Flugel is too annoying as it's capable of being - just skip down to the Lindy's Top 10 RBs (pre-Indy Combine) at the bottom.

I remember back to the year DeAngelo Williams came out. People kept saying we'd be better off deciding between Bunkley and Wimbley.

This is Bunkley's career stats to date:

Year Team Tk Ast Sck Stf FF FR

                                        06 Philadelphia 06 3 0 0.5 0 0

                                        07 Philadelphia 25 7 3 5.5 0 1

                                        08 Philadelphia 34 13 2 1.5 0 1

                                        Totals: 65 23 5 7.5 0 2

I don't think he sucks; BUT he's certainly not the guy Joe Buck made him out to be in the playoffs. I think Ngata is a better 2 gap player, which hasn't waivered since pre-draft discussions. My biggest concerns about both Bunkley and Wimbley were they appeared to be 1 year wonders (and Bunkley needed to de-bunk an injury history dating back into high school). Meanwhile, 3 or 4 of Wimbley's 10 sacks came at the expense of 1 matchup. The REST of the games didn't flash Lawrence Taylor or Julius Peppers to me. Wimbley actually had a more impressive ROOKIE year than I saw from any of his college days. I'm STILL hoping he's just a case of crappy coaching here.

Deangelo Williams was GREAT in his 3rd year but hasn't EVER averaged UNDER 4 yards a carry in his NFL career.

Don Brown looks like the REAL deal. Wells would be wonderful if he wasn't always injured. That Ian Johnson looks like a STEAL. When the Indy combine times were unofficial - I dare say he raised the most eye brows for RBs. He looks like Leon Washington with better giddyup. Another kid that raised my eye brows at one of the college All Star games was Marlon Lucky from Nebraska. I don't think he tore it up at Indy and Lindy's draft guide ranks him 24th.

Here's the Lindy's Draft Guide Top 10 RBs - things prolly changed post Indy but as far as the football skills - they do okay getting the right names. The rd projections are what changes since they stopped playing football in lieu barbells and track and field events:

                                        1. Knowshon Moreno - Georgia - rd 1

                                        2. Chris Wells - Ohio State - rd 1

                                        3. LeSean McCoy - Pittsburgh - rd 1 (I think the scouts/experts threw him into the obstructed views since then)

                                        4. Shonn Greene - Iowa - rd 1/rd 2

                                        5. Donald Brown - Connecticut - rd 2

                                        6. Javon Ringer - Michigan State - rd 2

                                        7. Rashad Jennings - Liberty - rd 2

                                        8. Jeremiah Johnson - Oregon - rd 3

                                        9. Andre Brown - N.C. State - rd 3/rd 4

                                        10. James Davis - Clemson - rd 4

                                        - Tom F.

I welcome the only Defensive Coordinator to earn a Superbowl Ring in New Orleans while understanding Revenge of the Nerds is a sequel. "Come get some!"

I have a niche for somebody...you could probably make a killing if you did it right.

Start a sight with low-lights....anybody can look good in 12 highlights and make people think he is good and worthy of a pick.

Show the garbage and all of a sudden many of the names being mentioned......wouldn't.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
