22 games under head coach Mike Pettine

  • And the teams record during that time is 9-13 or 0.409 in other NFL speak.

Thought I'd then look at the two previous blocks of a 22 game span after Mangini to see how he matches up....

    1) A season under Chudzinski and some Shurmur, record of 7-15 or 0.318

    2) All under Pat Shurmur, the record is 4-18 or 0.181

Other than boredom at work I'm not sure why I did it but it does show 'some' improvement.

But I guess you could look at it another way if you so wish, we are a poor 2-9 over our last 11 games.

  • nothing poor about the effort or improvement. i mean if you have eyes and can actually see. with the group of 'B' grade talent we have with no true blue chippers on offense, it could be alot worse.

    ALOT. yet we've played and won 2 close games and lost 3. c l o s e games.

Having a losing record would not garner a 0.692 winning percentage (that would mean winning 69.2% of games). You divided 9 into 13 when it should be nine into 22, which is .0409

However, that is better than the other folks at .0318.

    fixed that thanks

But we still lost, it couldn't be A LOT worse Mik, just two games worse

  • sure. we're as bad as the seahawks.

    3-3 is a lot better than 2-4.

But we still have a chance to sweep the AFCN 😉

Exactly... Only the Jets game wasn't close and as it turns out, they might actually be pretty good this year. 4-1 and all wins by double digits.

  • It's his first time as head coach. Of course there's going to be growing pains. This team fought tough the best D in the league.

Sure i don't like losing but i'll take improvements and exciting games over the dumpster fires we used to have. I'm mostly tired of the coaching carousel. Like it or not we gotta stick with Pettine for a while longer.

  • Just remember, this is the same group that tried to run Belichick out of town. Would not could not tolerate the growing pains and mistakes by a new coach. Which is why we will NEVER have the great ones here. No patience for them to develop and no reason for a developed one to come.

Not entirely true. He was fired when Art moved to Baltimore. Of course, Art also said when Bill was hired that "he is the last coach I'll ever hire" and we all know now how much he could be trusted. True though that he was not well liked but it was hard to argue with the results and in a similiar fashion, he had the team moving in the right direction after the first couple years and then made the playoffs and won a playoff game. If my memory serves, the Browns had a decent record in 1995 before the season was demolished by the announcement.

  • Good memory... I believe we were 3-1 or 3-2 when "the move" started to leak out during Modell's negotiations with local governments.

Actual announcement was 6th of November. We were 4-5. Finished the season 5-11.

Only win the rest of the way was the final home game at the old stadium against the Bengals. I still have a dvd copy of that game.

  • When Belicheat was in Cleveland he hired a group of assistants fresh out of college. Some of them went on to be head coaches and GMs

Firing Pettine would be down right stupid! No coach would ever want to come here. Pettine will get better. I think he's made mistakes but he's got the makings of a good coach.

Keep Pettine. Fire Farmer for letting Sheard-Skrine-Rubin go and signing Bowe and Manziel. If it weren't for Farmer we'd still have Shanahan who will be a head coach someday.

    Pettine stays Farmer goes

Farmer passed on Khalil Mack Mike Evans, Carr, ? Come to think of it Ha Ha Clinton Dix is playing well

  • I'm still 100% in with Pet, now his coordinators on the other hand, not so much. That being said, my biggest disappointment is with Farmer, and it's by a long shot. I had super high hopes for him, but they have dwindled to little more than "whatever".

I think of everyone, Farmer is the one in over his head the deepest.

Fixed. Flip is doing a great job IMO, if you look at the talent.

Farmer doesn't deserve too much criticism yet. Can't call anybody from 2015 a bust yet (except Mayle). Plus Ekpre-Olomu could be a good investment. Gilbert sucks, but special teams is better than not playing.

Bitonio will be a pro bowler relatively soon in his career. K'waun + Tramon have been upgrades to our backfield. Kirksey and Desir have looked OK.

Anyway, no big criticism for Farmer from me - but the dude sure loves getting players for the defensive backfield.

  • Farmer has had 4 1st round picks. He swung and missed on two (Gilbert/Johnny - YES Johnny) foul tipped another (Erving) and hit a soft single with Danny.

He signed Blowe for a ridiculous amount of money, and refuses to cut him.

He missed 1/4 of this season because he lost control of himself.

Yea, he's had some nice UDFA signings, but his utter failure in the 1st round can NOT be ignored.

  • Not sure about Desir, think he's struggling a bit at the moment

It's his first real action this season....cornerback takes time for most everyone who plays that position, except a few freaks of nature.

  • Manziel is 1-0 as a starter this year. He's improved and that is something that is supposed to happen. He wasn't to come in and start last year or this year. They are taking their time with him so they don't fuck him up like the last 10 QBs they have had. Manziel was and still is a good pick. He's our Future QB, waiting and learning in the wings. McCown is just the right type of team first guy to mentor Manziel into the Superstar QB he will soon become.

I like how everyone has written off Justin Gilbert, I haven't though. He has all the talent in the world, sometime it takes time to acclimate to the NFL. Just like with Manziel, there is no rush to push Gilbert to start over JOE HADEN and TRAMON WILLIAMS> They are far better now, but with the right training Gilbert could be as good as Deion Sanders someday. He's gifted.

Shelton is a beast. It's hard for a DT like Shelton to come in a dominate vs. VETERAN Centers and Guards on every snap. He's been effective and he's only going to continue to get better and stronger. He'll be a dominant force. Rookies have a long offseason with the Combine, Scouting days, tests, meeting and then OTAs and Training Camp and the the season which is much longer than a college season and much more strenuous. He could have hit the rookie wall sooner than most but that could mean that he shatters it sooner as well.

Erving is an unknown but he's given our offensive line a little flexibility and depth to play with. You can't judge these guys until at least their third season.
