It's his first real action this season....cornerback takes time for most everyone who plays that position, except a few freaks of nature.

  • Manziel is 1-0 as a starter this year. He's improved and that is something that is supposed to happen. He wasn't to come in and start last year or this year. They are taking their time with him so they don't fuck him up like the last 10 QBs they have had. Manziel was and still is a good pick. He's our Future QB, waiting and learning in the wings. McCown is just the right type of team first guy to mentor Manziel into the Superstar QB he will soon become.

I like how everyone has written off Justin Gilbert, I haven't though. He has all the talent in the world, sometime it takes time to acclimate to the NFL. Just like with Manziel, there is no rush to push Gilbert to start over JOE HADEN and TRAMON WILLIAMS> They are far better now, but with the right training Gilbert could be as good as Deion Sanders someday. He's gifted.

Shelton is a beast. It's hard for a DT like Shelton to come in a dominate vs. VETERAN Centers and Guards on every snap. He's been effective and he's only going to continue to get better and stronger. He'll be a dominant force. Rookies have a long offseason with the Combine, Scouting days, tests, meeting and then OTAs and Training Camp and the the season which is much longer than a college season and much more strenuous. He could have hit the rookie wall sooner than most but that could mean that he shatters it sooner as well.

Erving is an unknown but he's given our offensive line a little flexibility and depth to play with. You can't judge these guys until at least their third season.

Ok...that settles that....Manziel and Gilbert are fucked now. We should probably just trade them both.

  • We usually see things vastly different PoG, and this is no different. Gilbert will soon be washing Trent's cars and Johnny will be very lucky to have the career that Colt has had. Danny is doing OK (and for the record, is the only 1st round pick I wanted/totally agreed with) and Erving was a reach at best.

Your rose colored glasses are things of legend, that's for sure, but my glasses are clear, polarized, anti-glare and bullshit resistant. 😉

  • Hahaha! Lovin' these Browns though. They are playing ultra-tough and had we had Haden and Gipson in there yesterday, could have been a 6-pack of INTs. They are pissed and sick of losing these close ones. I feel bad for the Rams because they are going to get the full Orange Onslaught on Sunday! 3-4 and looking to take one from AZ to set us up for a 4-4 game vs. Pittsburgh to go to 5-4. We've got this. 12-4

  • They did play tough, all day, and that's why I'm still 100% in with Pet. His players have never quit in any of his games. Yes, he needs to stop making some of the game-day mistakes (TOs/time management ect..) and I'm betting if he's given the chance and the time he needs, he will fix them.

  • You guys have convinced me regards Pett. He and the other coaches are learning on the job we just have to be patient. They're playing for him and the veterans seem to like him, they sure know more than I do.

  • I will take a ton of flak on this for sure. In my opinion you cannot judge improvement or regression of a team strictly by the number of wins and losses. Strength of schedule is a major variable in that from year to year. I will certainly say there are areas where it seems we have regressed. I think O line play as it relates to run blocking is abysmal. Our ability to put pressure on QB's is literally non existent in most games. I do think on offense we have , in Mik's terms , uncovered a couple blue chippers. Both Travis Benjamin and Gary Barnidge seem to be legit weapons to me. Adding linebackers and more talent is certainly needed but the single biggest short term need is better coaching decisions. Clock management, 4th down decisions and most recently 2pt'ers have cost us games. I wants I like this staff (minus O'neil) but they need to improve in that area quickly. The next 4 games are pretty tough but I think this team can beat any of them. It's simply going to take consistent execution by the players and coaches. The framework to win is there. I am starting to think Pettine should bring in a consultant / assistant (veteran coach) to help him learn the finer points of clock management etc.

  • Farmer has had 4 1st round picks. He swung and missed on two (Gilbert/Johnny - YES Johnny) foul tipped another (Erving) and hit a soft single with Danny.

He signed Blowe for a ridiculous amount of money, and refuses to cut him.

He missed 1/4 of this season because he lost control of himself.

Yea, he's had some nice UDFA signings, but his utter failure in the 1st round can NOT be ignored.

You still can't say Johnny yet. He's 1-0 this year after all, and I suspect we'll have a clearer picture by week 17 because he will play again.

Gilbert yes, he may adapt into a good special teamer or wide receiver but you don't expect your 8th overall pick to have to do that.

A few changes to technique and Shelton could breakout.

Erving was never going to start over JT, Bitonio, Mack, Greco, and Schwartz. 3 of which are potential pro bowlers (JT, Bito, Schwartz) and one of which is solid (Greco). Mack sucks mostly so far. But remember last year when we couldn't find OL depth? I do. Erving was necessary we're just sort of fortunate we don't need him yet.

Tramon, K'Wuan have been backfield upgrades. Gabriel has been a solid WR, Bitonio will possibly see multiple pro bowls in his career, Duke Johnson looks like a potential stud, etc, etc.

Every GM makes mistakes, but Browns fans see nothing but the mistakes.

  • And Manziel seems like a Haslam pick, not a Farmer pick.

  • Hahaha! Some funny parts that made me laugh!

That all sounds good and positive, but in the end, the browns aren't good enough to win games, and no amount of positive spin can argue the score board or the win-loss total........ 2-9 over our last 11 games with these players on the field, and who is responsible for the talent on the field?

Again, I'm a very realistic fan. I don't claim we're going to the Super Bowl when we win, and I don't cry 'blow it all up' when we lose. I'm not calling for Farmer's head, but I also know enough to understand that his seat is getting warmer and warmer with every off the field headline our backup QB makes, every game that Blowe is inactive and every game we lose.............. The bottom line is that we are not winning, and no, close does not count.

O'Neil is far more responsible for the losses than the talent on the field IMO. If Farmer's seat is hot, his is on fire.

It doesn't take 2 years to turn a perrenial loser into a winner.

Yeah...I read that one a couple times myself and thought it could go either way.....

  • Really happy with the offense being top 10 with a bunch of scrubs and has beens at playmaker positions. My evaluation is gonna rest with pettines ability to progress this defense by the end of the year. We were supposed to run the football and stop the run and we can't do either in epic fashion. Progression is important for Mike.

  • Pettine makes the decision on O'Neil. Pettine was fired by his best friend Rex Ryan. Does Pettine have the Nads to do it to his friend O'Neil or he's the best for the job for now? Farmer with Trade deadline looming Nov. 3. Does he have a package deal that may help on this Defense? Tick Tock.. our trading block list is growing weekly imo. but who's the return is the ???'s Can we give Farmer a little love for signing Andy Lee? Pettine a little love on Pryor not signed anywhere & a nobody in Travis Coons? Mc Cown not a bad idea either over Hoyer?

Yep, all good things there gumby, but his 1st rounds can't be ignored, especially when he's had back2back double picks in the 1st..... That's like 4yrs of 1st round picks. Hopefully he's a genius and I'm a moron (DieHardDickHead should run wild with that one) but only time will tell.

  • I noted in the thread where Filbin got canned that the number one intangible quality a coach can have is being a leader of men. I know it sounds macho and cliche, but in the NFL the head coach is someone players are willing to go to war for. Pettine has this, at least IMO. I don't doubt the guys are playing hard out there and it can't be understated.

With that being said, he still makes some peculiar decisions that have a major impact on the game and needs to can his friend O'Neil in a hurry.
