Tradition aside, would you protest the NFL if they eliminated placekicking?

  • No one talks to their friends about kickers for a reason. Their skill is purely fundamental. Why do we let these no-contact, non-athletes decide almost every game?

  • Fundamental part of the game. I enjoy the kicking aspect.

  • "non athletes"? I would say they are as much "athletes" as some of these linemen anymore. In fact, much more so.

Said exactly this for years. You've got 100 absolute gladiators killing each other for 60 minutes and the game is decided by the scrawny virgin guy. Ridiculous.

Lotta kickers out there benching 500 pounds that we don't know about?

their skill is fundamental and yet teams have a hard time finding a good one. Look at the college game and how many good college teams can't find a decent kicker. University of Florida for gods sake had an open tryout. School with like 50000 students and they can't find one to kick a ball through some pipes? Its clearly not as easy as the good ones make it look.

  • No, it's not easy, and they're wimps, so they shouldn't control the outcome of the game.

Our punter and our kicker are both bigger than our backup QB and could probaly take him in a street fight. I have no doubt, CoonDawg could.

    Then there's that as well..

Well, it is after all still called FOOTBALL. And the last time I looked, kicking still involved the foot.

  • It's a very strategic part of the game. You don't have to bench 500 pounds to be considered an athlete, either.

Exactly....check out the fitness levels of race car drivers.

  • for me, it would mean lower scoring, more boring games.....with much less excitement in the last 2 minutes.....the threat of a score from the 40 or a last second fg adds a lot to the game....

wouldnt change a thing....except maybe bring back the drop kick...😉

and yes, I think kickers are athletes....

  • What? And take away from all the kids in America to stop practicing kicking between the trees & over the Power lines. Come On Man!! We can't stop making kids Dreams. we take enough away 😁

and another kids thing....No more Punt, pass & kick?...maybe go with the punt pass and block?

Even if we accept all your premises as true, that's still an anomaly across this league.

You also have a guy that's taken sacks all his life, goes through practice with the team (instead of off to the side with a Camelback full of vodka), has to study a ton of film, and has a ton of skill. This in addition to the summer camps and individual training that he would have in common with Coons. Coons just overcomes some nerves and swings his leg. Occasionally on kickoffs he has to do it to one side. No comparison.

I don't think so. Probably a lotta other teams' kickers could whip our back up QB in a street fight.

  • I meant most couldn't beat up their own backup QB, but hey, never pass up an opportunity to bash a Brown.

Just saw a window for a joke. Not seriously bashing anyone.

All joking aside l'm cool with the placekicking aspect of the game. I guess l'm just used to it and l like anticipation of it all, and respect the skill involved.

And really, the point about how a small finesse guy can be the saviour of a group of gladiators has a certain irony to it. Irony is fun, right?

  • Field goals are worth three points, TDs are worth double. If you don't want to kick it to win the game then you should probably use those gargantuan linemen to actually score points. It's not just kickers that are small, look at Travis Benjamin out there, he's even smaller than the kicker... probably Gabe and Hawkins too. It's not the size of the dog in the fight...
