  • bbedward- I have no idea if Johnny plays well. I wont make excuses if he doesn't. He needs to have several starts, and if he doesn't show a lot in those we can write him off as a potential contributor to this team in a real sense I believe. I think, based on what I've seen, it's more likely than not that Johnny is not a big splash in his several starts. but if your pettine I still think you gotta roll the dice and try it. A chance of hanging on to your job if he does a lot better than everyone(including he) thinks is much better than the death spiral he is currently in.

Manziel will start this Thursday or the sunday after.....just depends on whether Pettine wants to give him a full week of practice before the switch is made.

I think Pettine wants to keep his job, and even though it looks like he is almost certainly going to be fired after this year(you see him looking like such a sad defeated man in pressers), he knows that the only sliver of hope he has is to try to make a change and have JM create some hope for the future. If Manziel can go 4-3 or whatever with some nice play towards the last 7 games, it is within the realm of possibility for Haslam and co to say "you know, maybe pettine and manziel have us on the upswing".....

The problem is I don't think Pettine believes in manziel....at all. So that's a problem.

Pettine is fucked either way really....he's probably trying to put off bringing JM in as long as possible because he feels that he has a better chance of making a superficial positive impression with a small sample size. But then the problem is if Manziel is brought in with 4 games left and plays well and goes 3-1, Pettine is going to take heat because the obvious criticism is going to be "where was he earlier".....

Pettine has really put himself in a no win situation....short of bringing johnny in now and finishing 7-1 or something absurd.

Reading your posts brings to mind the little girl digging through a pile of horse shit convinced there's a pony in there somewhere...

  • Browns committed to injured McCown

QB Josh McCown is day-to-day after injuring his ribs in Sunday's loss to Arizona. He was limited in practice due to a sore right shoulder and bruised ribs. Cleveland coach Mike Pettine said the team hasn't reached the point where it would decide to take a look at young players like backup QB Johnny Manziel.

    Nor should he.

You play the best players as long as you are alive.

Right now, the two wild cards have just two more wins than us, and one of them just got both QBs injured in the same game.

Pittsburgh ... We've got them twice, and they just lost a big playmaker.

Everyone else has a losing record.

9-7 can probably take a WC this year.

Are we likely to go 7-1 the rest of the way? No.

But giving up is for chicken shits.

When/if we are officially eliminated then we can "look at" guys that we probably already know what we have.

I prefer "getting them game time experience" over "looking at them" ... but to each their own.

  • I like it...

I have no idea how McCown could be good to go after that beating with the short week.

I know many people are wishing he'd just miss a game so Johnny can play, but I have much respect for his toughness - it's the sort of thing you should be happy to see from your players...

    ---

Though McCown isn't having a good season if you look at the right stats.

It would seem surprising to me as well. But the dude is tough.

    There's always the needle, guys...

Prior to my torn labrum repair in my left shoulder, my Doc wanted to do a cortisone shot into the joint. It was preceded by Novocain shots so I would not feel the "big needle". For four hours my shoulder felt as good as it had pre-injury.

Exactly, Z. Our staff can't give up on the season until the math says the playoffs are out of reach.

And there is no prize for being the first "fan" to say "it's over" and having it end up true.

Are you completely sure about this? It seems there are quite a few posters around here who want to be able to say "I told you so" every single week.

  • The Bengals kicked my a$$ last time I faced them. They are even better now!

Why don't you try and wring some sunshine and rainbows out of this latest shitstorm? Or failing that why don't you shit on some fans as not real enough fans when they put their foot down on bullshit systemic football? Then when enough of us do it and finally force lackadasical ownership to take accountability you can act like you were on board all along
  • It's obvious that until McCown sits down and allows the NFL's darling Manziel to play they are not going to let us win. The refs intentionally looked the other way on 9/10 late hits on McCown. They were tackling him all the way to the ground yesterday. Would the Browns get away with that shit on Andy Dalton? Fuck it, beat his ass to shit. Make that candy ass-licker eat the fucking dirt, in front of his home crowd. Take the penalties, take the loss, I could care less right now. Beat his ass to shit and watch the Bengals crumble the rest of the way. Break fucking ribs, shoulder and anything else not bolted down. Fuck em.

Time to bring the pain from now on. For every late hit, roughing the passer, hitting us out of bounds, holding, chopblock, facemask, target of the head, ect. ect. that doesn't get called for us... WE NEED TO DO IT TWICE BACK.

I'm sure the owner is scared shitless of you and the 5 or so other negative attention whores around here.

  • I for one have given up on a miraculous comeback for this team. The coaching is absolutely horrible. How can you have the highest paid defense, and be dead last? Seems that the defensive schemes suck.Did i mention that our coach is a defensive mind? Scares me.McCown does not want to come out, because if the kid would somehow win another game,he may have to sit.At his age,he has done plenty of that(could 8 or 9 teams be wrong?).Put Manziel in and let him sink,or swim,we have nothing to lose at this point.Hopefully we can get a few drafts for these suck ass veterans we are overpaying for.Face it,we are rebuilding again, and it sucks!!

  • Hopefully Manziel and not Grampa McCown

Oh mark o. It goes far beyond the browns board. And you, sir, are firmly in the minority. The fans that stand by and get shit on over and over never once standing up and saying "you know what? I'm tired of this bullshit. No more money for you."

Yes it goes far beyond the microcosm of this internet forum

  • Even tho the season is not looking well. Want to see if McCown can build of his 1-0 record against the afc north.

It's just taking the rose colored glasses off Mark- it's called being "objective" and not a hopeless homer. Didn't I tell you in the Tavern you could have my season tickets for the next time you're in town if the Browns kept it within (I think 3, I was drinking heavily at the time). Seems like my radar was right on- I don't like losing anymore than you do, but apparently Pettine didn't get the memo NFL games are 60 minutes long, not 30- and it isn't too smart to keep putting a damaged quarterback out there who's going three and out, three and out, rinse wash repeat- and tosses up a soft floater to the end zone on a bum shoulder that got picked off.

  • A coach that also didn't know why Duke Johnson was on the field.

Pettine is in way over his head. He's a nice man but terrible coach.

  • Is pettine a nice man though? Kind of comes off like a scared and insecure asshole type to me.....

Also, the propettine crowd seems to think that if you want JM to play or be given a shot you think JM was a good draft pick or is likely to be a good nfl qb. not at all. A lot of us are pretty skeptical on manziel, but are simply saying "this team is going nowhere at 2-6 and why the fuck would a 2-6 team going nowhere run out a proven loser who is 36 and hasb no upside for our future at all"
