don't look now, but this defense is forcing A LOT of turnovers

  • We conceded 31pts. You ain't winning many games doing that.

  • not a lot no....but when they force 4 turnovers(one of which gets the offense the ball at the 10 for 7 pts right there), it becomes a more feasible thing......

giving up 31 when you force 4 turnovers and one of those turnovers is at the opponents 10(pt expect 5+ pts right there) in a game with lots of possessions....that's probably an 'adjusted' pt total of like 22-23. Which is right in line with nfl averages and you definitely have a good chance to win games like that.

  • Yes, they finally started forcing turnovers the past three week, after getting virtually none the first five weeks.

Unfortunately, we were going up against some pretty damn good defenses ourselves. Better defenses.

  • our defense was really bad against the chargers pretty much the whole game. And the defense played very poorly for a good portion of the Oakland game. It was a blah defensive performance against the jets. A good defensive performance against the titans.

Our defense this year has been better than people here give them credit for. They aren't good, but that unit has played better than a 2-6 record imo. I think our offense has played to a 2-6 record.

  • Right on Taco. Not sure l realized that myself but appreciate anything positive we can build on.

Could be aspects of the defense are starting to come together? Either the defense in unison decided to start sucking, or the new defensive scheme really does take some adjusting to. Hoping it's the latter.

We gave up 20-30+ points in every game except the Titans game, what are you smoking?

This offense was never going to get 30+ points per game nor were they expected to, I think they've performed above expectations.

Are you using advanced metrics again?

  • Browns were ranked 10th best offense heading into Rams game.

    vs 10th best D.

    was a good storyline.

  • bbedward, ummm no. The defense gave up 19 pts(16 in regulation) and 17 pts(really 14...but whatever) against st Louis.

Pick 6's returned for tds do not count as "defense giving up points".

So what Im smoking is reality.....

  • Also held the Cards to only 119 yards rushing... 2nd lowest of the season by our D.

Unfortunately our Offense only produced 39 rushing yards... tied for our low of the year. McC had 18 of them.

  • the rushing yards don't concern me that much.....it's big passing plays that concern me, and we gave up too many to Cardinals. We gotta clean that up. But this is a passing league, and stopping the big passing plays is #1 goal on defense.

  • If defending big pass plays is your #1 priority then come out in a dime and play a deep Cover 3... problem solved.

Sure you don't want to give up chunks either by run or pass. The more you make an Offense work in a given drive, the more opportunities they have for making a mistake... be it in the form of a penalty, a turnover or a missed assignment. But if you play soft, focused upon not giving up the deep ball, then you simply cannot make it hard enough to string short passes together... not to mention runs.

Our posting a mere 39 yards of rushing should concern you.

    ...and 375 yards passing......

Just imagine if Palmer didnt overthrow those other long passes to wide open receivers......woulda coulda shoulda been a 600 yard day for him.....

  • The big passing plays are coming on 2 @ 2s and 1st downs because we cant stop the run.

We cant stop the run so we cant get into obvious passing situations were we can dial up pressure.

The main reason we getting more turnovers Is because teams and players don't respect the d and take more risks and get more careless with the ball. I mean if you know a defense was always soft as baby shit come the 4th qrt I would to. The thing that concerns me about this team is the lack of tackling. I have not seen such bad tackling only several games into a season.

  • Tour 39 yards of rushing for the 2nd time this year. I am way more interested in seeing the rushing game against the bungles than I am for the "backup" getting into the game.

  • our rbs suck. period.

  • If you have no running game its mighty hard to win games. McCown cant be expected to throw the ball 4 quarters and win games. This and the shocking run defense has been the biggest disappointment for me since we were meant to be building the future on a tough D Line and a running game.

i thought we were 2-5. Are you saying we already lost to the bengals?..Unfortunatly, i think we will be 2-6 after tommorrow...Only thing we can hope for is that manziel looks half way decent....
