It's just taking the rose colored glasses off Mark- it's called being "objective" and not a hopeless homer. Didn't I tell you in the Tavern you could have my season tickets for the next time you're in town if the Browns kept it within (I think 3, I was drinking heavily at the time). Seems like my radar was right on- I don't like losing anymore than you do, but apparently Pettine didn't get the memo NFL games are 60 minutes long, not 30- and it isn't too smart to keep putting a damaged quarterback out there who's going three and out, three and out, rinse wash repeat- and tosses up a soft floater to the end zone on a bum shoulder that got picked off.

There you go again.... "Didn't I tell you?" "seems like my radar was right on". There's no fucking prize for you predicting failure for the team. You don't win shit. And what if I want to wear fucking rose colored glasses? Who the fuck are you or any of you other negative dickweeds to tell me that I should give up and be "objective". You "objective" people suck and must lead miserable lives that a fucking football team that you watch in your spare time makes you so miserable.

I'll be objective in the offseason....in the meantime I'll root for my team to win every week and not bet or pick against them or predict that they're going to lose when up by 10 points at halftime just so I can say "i told you so".

We're going to kick the Bengals ass even if Johnny plays.

    10-6

Fuck being objective. My rose colored glasses fit perfectly.

Mark, don't get all pissed off if I see things differently. (and correctly) If I wasn't a real fan, I could save myself a lot of time (moderating this board) and money (season tickets + Directv Sunday Ticket). The Browns have been my fall passion since the late 1950s, and sorry if I'm getting a tad tired of the almost continual shit show I've seen from the Browns since 1999. Ya think it's all wonderful driving 220 miles home after I've seen the Browns turn in yet another stinking performance? In case you didn't know it, my name is up there on that wall in the SW corner of the stadium as a founding PSL member, and I've been a member of the Dayton Browns Backers since their inception. The guy I have my season tickets with has already checked out, and put his seats up for sale on NFL ticket exchange he's so disgusted with the entire situation. No playoffs since 2002, and not even a winning record since 2007. Yeah- it's been so f**cking long, I had to look those numbers up. Excuse me I have higher expectations for a return on my investment of time and money. So sure I could lead a lot happier life Sunday fall afternoons if I (as so many others have done) just throw in the towel on this dumpster fire of a team and go out on nice long bike rides in the beautiful fall weather. But for whatever reason, I'll keep hoping against hope for at least an occasional win, and some season before I croak that this team can be a Super Bowl contender again.

Sounds like you like being on the deck of the Titanic- thinking everything is going to work out just fine this year when Team Browns just hit yet another iceberg and is taking on water fast. So when are you Pollyannas going to admit- the fact that the Browns were even discussing trading their best player for peanuts is a tacit admission they've already shit canned this season, and are looking to 2016?

  • "It speaks volumes about our Coach Pettine and his unwillingness to take a chance on Manziel when McCown wasn't able to even get off the cement on the sideline. "

Maybe it speaks volumes about Manziel?

  • JFF starting Thursday. Seems like Haslam had a talk with Pettine and how close he is to losing his job no doubt.

I'll take that bet.... Browns lose every game for the rest of the year and finish 2-14 and I'll leave the board, never to return. Browns win just one game to make your asinine prediction wrong, and you leave here never to return.

Deal? Put your money where your mouth is big talker. You were leaving 2 weeks ago and yet you;re still here whining like a little baby.

    Yup.

  • Honestly, I don't know how someone could argue against your post. I mean, so what if they play worse? Does that mean we'll just lose by MORE points? At this point, who cares? We simply have to know if any of our first round talent can play ball. Maybe some of these guys are just "gamers", and don't do well in practice, but shine when the lights are on? Can anybody tell me with a straight face that Johnson Bademosi is a better cornerback than Justin Gilbert? I don't really think that Manziel can do any better than McCown, but I do think Johnny needs to be in the damn game to see where he is at. Maybe Johnny has a high ceiling that we don't know about? Perhaps his legs and ability to run the ball will help offset the constant pass rush, and maybe even *gasp* open up the running game for our backs? And do we really want to wait until training camp to see what we have in Erving?

  • It's obvious that until McCown sits down and allows the NFL's darling Manziel to play they are not going to let us win. The refs intentionally looked the other way on 9/10 late hits on McCown. They were tackling him all the way to the ground yesterday. Would the Browns get away with that shit on Andy Dalton? Fuck it, beat his ass to shit. Make that candy ass-licker eat the fucking dirt, in front of his home crowd. Take the penalties, take the loss, I could care less right now. Beat his ass to shit and watch the Bengals crumble the rest of the way. Break fucking ribs, shoulder and anything else not bolted down. Fuck em.

Time to bring the pain from now on. For every late hit, roughing the passer, hitting us out of bounds, holding, chopblock, facemask, target of the head, ect. ect. that doesn't get called for us... WE NEED TO DO IT TWICE BACK.

So, for every penalty they apparently don't call on the other time, we should commit two penalties that they do call on us?

    Stop being reasonable dammit.

We all know we were trying to trade JT and toss Manziel in a short week so he could get destroyed because everybody on the Browns staff hates Manziel.

    The starting QB being injured....pffft.

  • Wasn't that the same cement that just put Reggie Bush on IR?

Here will likely be a time for checking out all these "gamers"... it is just not now... not yet.

Picture yourself walking into your locker room and telling all your players to:

Dig deep and play hard... and by the way even though we are not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, we're going to start five players that have not been able to earn a starting job all year... a couple of which aren't even 2nd teamers. Go get 'em!

If there were signs that the locker room was substantially behind most of the players you were going to promote to starters, then you might pull it off. Last year there were reports of some player division over the QB, but this year we've not heard that about any position. Or at least I have not...

When you are still in contention for a playoff spot, you don't give up and say screw it. The Browns still have a chance check the numbers.

The problem with playing Manizel if he sucks as bad as last year has two major effects.

    1. You set him back further. He plays like crap because he isn't ready. They drafted him in the 1st round. If it take 3 years to get ready, guess what.... they have to wait. If it takes 4.... they have to wait. They screwed up picking him, now they have to do what it takes to get something out of him. This "See what we have" doesn't work for a guy in his second year, who had MAJOR issues last year, wasn't NFL ready and still isn't. Pet knows what he has, and its not an NFL QB yet.

    2. When you play and get your ass kicked because you "Want to see what he has" the rest of the team regresses. Manizel going in and getting lit up like he did last year against the Bengals not only messes him up, but it screws the rest of the team. How much work is Duke going to get when JM goes in and goes 3 and out every time they get the ball? How much practice is Danny going to get playing 50 min. a game because the offense can't stay on the field. Gary B.? Benji? The issue is everything centers around the QB. Josh can run the offense better with broken ribs than Johnny can healthy. Putting Gilbert in might be ok, but if the team is hanging on in a game and the guy lets up two big bombs then the game is out of reach. CB isn't the best position to put a guy on an island either.

  • So, it's Johnny Football Manziel tomorrow. Well, I guess some section of the fan base will be happy, and it certainly won't hurt to get him more game time. Perhaps this is the start of the transition, especially if JFF plays well - we'll have a long week afterwards where he can assume full starting duty? McCown apparently said his ribs might take weeks to heal, so we might be in for a stretch of Johnny. If we're 3-8 when McCown heals, does he come back in?

  • gilbert's returning punts because he's not good enough to crack the starting rotation in our secondary. Why is that hard to understand? If Gilbert was Revis island the 2nd, do any of you have some sort of conspiratorial fantasy that Pettine still wouldn't play him to spite Farmer or something? That's absurd. Gilbert isn't a good DB, that's why he's returning kicks cause Pettine is trying to get something out of a #1 pick.....we could have had Khalil Mack with that pick btw. In case any of you forgot.

    Pussy....

  • Excited to see what John can do tomorrow night, but I'm more worried about our D being able to hold the Bungles under 28. That being said, this game has all the smellings of a trap game..............

I would think at this point in the season that if Johnny plays well tomorrow night, that he could very well be the starter again the next week against Pittsburgh. I agreed with the decision to go back to McCown after the Titans game but at this point in the season, if Johnny gets us to 3-6 tomorrow night and plays well, I could see him keeping the job. McCown always knew that was a possibility when he signed here so I'd certainly at this point let it keep going with Manziel if we win tomorrow night.

  • ^ Agree. It's a completely different situation at 2-6 than it was at 1-1. At this point, unless John completely shits the bed, I *think* it may be his team from here on out. I also agree with those that say we need to play Gilbert and Irving from here on out too.

We have a huge investment in those guys, and this season is now much like a game in which a team is blown out and it's the 4th qtr, it's time to play the kids and get them some experience, as well as see if they can compete at the NFL level......... Maybe they can, and maybe they can't, but I'd rather find out at 2-6.

McCown's a true professional, no problems there. He already heard Johnny chants this season I think and brushed them off and threw for 300 YDs.

He loves to play and wouldn't throw a fit about getting put in the #2 spot, unlike the Mallet/Hoyer fiasco. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves, but I'm still expecting we lay a whooping on Cincy, it won't even be close

    28-10 Browns, maybe 35-10.
