Not sure how many of you are paying attention but we just got rid of Tom Landry and are about to bring in Paul Brown. I'd say we're doing good work here you guys need to catch up.

Kinda off topic here so sorry about that but I keep hearing Browns fans using this excuse about not bringing in a successful coach because "everyone knows they can't win it again" and to me that is very narrow minded. Who knows they can't win it again? I don't think anyone knows. And plus all that... people are seriously delusional and must not understand the game if they actually think this teams priority should be winning the superbowl right now. I think it should be just trying to win back to back games and then getting to the playoffs. Paul Brown went to the Bengals and never won a championship in his seven years as head coach there but he did get them to the playoffs 3 times.

  • There is no link. This is like in its infant stages. Just putting it out there as something to chew on. It would be a disservice to not at least bring it up.

All we know is Haslam and Manning are friends due to their Vols connection. Peyton has enough loot for his playing days- why would he want to coach, when he can sit on a beach in Tahiti sipping pina coladas all day when he retires? Then again Elway took on the GM job with the Broncos- Manning to the Browns in the same position?

I imagine he will eventually get into a front office or coaching role after he retires, but hard to see him jumping straight into it - would probably take a few years off sippin those pina coladas.

There was some time inbetween his retirement and taking the GM job though right? 10 years maybe? Would be odd if Manning would jump pretty much straight back into the grind. I just don't see it....would love it, but don't see it. People would have to understand though that we don't have a qb that could run an offense the way Manning would want to run it. Just having Manning as the OC wouldn't magically reverse everything overnight. It would take time to get "his" players here. Basically if Manning was our OC right now there would be almost nothing different.

As I said in the tavern last night.

Rumor has it........ I was told its a guarantee.....but still in the infant stages....

    So....is it a rumor or a guarantee???.....cant be both....

I find it impossible to believe that Peyton Manning has already decided(and agreed) to retire and become the Cleveland Browns OC, while he is in the middle of a 7-0 season......or that Tony Dungy is in the fold......

    Hahahahahaha......

Besides....everybody knows Super Bowl winning coaches NEVER win with other teams.....so Dungy would pretty guarantee that we WONT win the SuperBowl, right?

It is the uber rare guaranteed, infant-stage rumor...

Unless we are the U of TN - Cleveland Campus...

Dunno... Elway had his golf. Manning does not strike me as the idle type, but I would think a role with U of TN would be closer to his heart. And FO over coaching would be his inclination. Maybe AD since the current HC seems to have them on a bit of an upswing.

didn't they call him gamblin sam...loved that era with sipe...lots of fun exciting games, but still one of the worse calls in professional sports history...guess that's why they called him gamblin sam....

hey, just wanted to say, you almost got the score right after last night. If it wasn't for that awesome ankle tackle by our explosive db gilbert on the bengals wr, you would have been totally correct...ehhh, except for the team of course. That receiver would have scored if he only could have kept his balance for just 1 or 2 more seconds...

i have a feeling he will seek a role at the college level. Probably in the volunteer state.

. People need to be held accountable and blaming someone they hired is pushing blame to cover up their own ineptitude.

Or....sometimes the guy they hired IS the problem.....fire him and move on.....but firing the guy who hired him is stupid,, cause thats a never ending line.....are you then gonna fire the guy who hired the guy who fired the guy who got hired?

if everyone got fired for hiring someone who's not good at their job or for promoting someone who doesnt pan out in their new position.....there would literally be no one left at any business in the world.....

Oneill is the perfect example of the Peter principle, which plays out in every business every day.....and probably fits a bunch of folks who are here bitching as well.....

Maybe Pettine and Farmer too(ftm).....not sure....Peter Principle....look it up......it lives!

It's really not that rhetorical. My point is accountability. If you hire people that can't do the job then it's time to clean house; not just one room.

It's not off topic...but to me and this is just my opinion. Bringing in the successful retread coach who has already won his super bowl (or more than one) somewhere else just won't work. It hasn't worked in 40 years and it's been tried many many times. So to me, that's not the way to go. The fire just won't be there.

If we're going to start over, we need to find the young Sean Payton or the young Belicheck (though the media would hate that guy) or as much as I hate to say it...the young Bill Cowher.

  • But let's play a fun game anyway, fast forward two years into the Dungy/Manning era where we're still an avg to below avg team rebuilding with young players. Let's hear why Dungy's a bum and Manning's an arrogant asshole that need to be fired not at the end of the season, but RIGHT FUCKING NOW!!! Let's preemptively run Dungy and Manning out of town before they're even hired. This will be fun, here I'll start one...

OMFG this fucking Manning cunt can't control his offense. You see these guys? Was a good QB but fuck he can't OC in the NFL. He needed to start out in division II or something...get him out of here he sucks and I hate him.
