  • Ya know what Im sick of? Drafting all these guys from crap colleges. Lets follow the Bungles recipe and draft primarily from the SEC and Big 10. I saw a stat line from their roster that said like 51 of their 53 is from the Big 10 and SEC. Lets stop thinking were smarter than everyone else and drafting RBs from Towson in the 3rd round....

Very good point about the RBs thing when we found better in Crow without using a draft pick to do it. Sometimes it isn't just the conference or school size though as the Buffalo Bills once found a ton of key situational role players from small schools in their run of 4 Superbowls.

We didn't draft all these guys but they're on our roster or were temporarily:

Manziel came from the SEC but like our fan base (only part of our front office and coaching staff wanted him)

    Mingo came from the SEC

    Haden came from the SEC

    Dansby came the SEC

Crowell has a great Freshman season in the SEC

Malcolm Johnson came from the SEC

    Richardson came from the SEC

Weeden, Gilbert & Gordon (the only team he got on the field with) were in the Big 12 or whatever they call that conference without defense

Kirksey came from the Big 10

Whitner came from the Big 10

Campbell came from the Big 10

Thomas came from the Big 10

Hartline came from the Big 10

Mack and Schwartz came from the Pac 12 (zbs at Cal)

Shelton came from the Pac 12

Kruger came from the Pac 12

    Orchard came the Pac 12

Mayle came from the Pac 12

Poyer & Bademosi came from the Pac 12

Telfer, Cooper and Pullard came from the Pac 12

Benjamin and Duke Johnson came from Miami

    Erving came from Florida State

    Des Bryant came from Harvard

    Gipson came from Wyoming

Barnidge and Gaines came from Louisville

    Greco is from Toledo

    Meder is from Ashland

Tramon WIlliams came from LA Tech

Armonty Bryant came from East Central Oklahoma

Good points as usual; but be careful there's a know-it-all in here that says stats are for people wearing Retard.

See, this is a much more reasonable post length.

Also, I read the first line of your response previous to this. I wasn't looking for a fight, I highlighted something huge that ends the fight of basing defensive prospects on box stats alone.

But you keep on keeping' on, guy.

In doing so, you forgot you were the one in the Barrett got Arrested thread that brought up you had stats to back your argument about Bosa the first 5 weeks. When we failed to see you get those - I knew exactly how convenient they were. That was the irony I enjoyed laughing at when you were calling stat guys Retard. You brought up the stats and their pertinence to the debate until you actually read them. See what happens when you read? And how important it is to do that before reacting? You could have actually understood why a lot more than 1 guy was saying what's up with the Bosa we're seeing at the onset of 2015? Not all of the first 4 opponents after the suspension gave him the attention Illinois just did.

When I posted stats that didn't reflect extreme dominance vrs inferior competition - that's when you went all ping pong on what criteria was supposed to count most and you got all pissy like a little kid. When you show up any thread putting down a group of guys while trying to pretend you're the smartest one in the room - do you honestly think I'm the only guy that thinks you're a dick head?

The 1 SEC guy pre-draft that changed my football wood factor from balsa to sequoia was Julio Jones. So what does a team that can't draft well in round 1 do with that in a passing era? They kicked him off their door step to draft 2 first round guys that aren't starting today (1 is out of the league). I can't remember who else we got from that exchange; but it isn't creating the impact for the zbs quite as well as concerns with matching up with Jones down field does.

Even if we drafted Derek Carr - does anyone think Farmer's disconnect with a passing era would have added help like Cooper and Crabtree for him? If we added Beckham in 2014 and Crabtree (instead of Bowe) to Benjamin plus Barnidge - how fun does playing QB here get in a hurry? How much easier does it get to run the ball here at Overthink Tech?

Yep....that one definitely worked out better for Atlanta.....by a mile....

We got something like 5 picks from them, including 2 first and a second.....which became Phil Taylor, Greg Little and Weeden...

Dont remember who we got with the others....but might have used them in our trade up to get Richardson....

This was your quote in the JT Barrett got arrested thread about those stats: "I don't have to pretend, there are stats to quantify my argument about Joey." Then of course I brought you the bad news that his first 5 games shook out like this:

Va Tech (suspended) + Hawaii + Northern Illinois + Western Michigan + Indiana = a sum of a half a sack.

Before joining you in ordaining him as the next Reggie White - I felt there were red flags to discuss. Most adults in the first Bosa thread felt the same way with the biggest hurdle looking to be the inner chest. I've never questioned Joey's talent once I got my powerful first impression his Freshman year. I DO question how often he brings his A game - which comes from a fan that his witnessed first round draft picks here like Phil Taylor and Gerrard Warren. When he started the year suspended, it showed some people football wasn't prioritized enough to make the sacrifice.

The match-up today against the Sorority of the Big 10 doesn't surprise me they needed to chip with a TE and had a RB in to help out if needed. That's not only showing respect for Bosa but it's also a confession he's not facing an NFL caliber opponent. Reggie White got that all the time in the NFL and still tallied up tons of sacks so let's try not to confuse that with Illinois.

Joey Bosa definitely has the talent to be a top 5 pick. Does he have the inner chest to be a great one? We shall see.

It's clear this season he's peddling '"somewhat"...and you would too if you had a life changing rookie contract staring you in the face. He gets hurt he's potentially out of the 1st round. But can you say he hasn't played hard in prior years? Doesn't he have the most sacks of any Buckeye ever? or close to it now?

    Ah the Clowney route...

Honestly I have not watched Bosa enough this year to evaluate his effort, but if, as you say, he has been coasting, then I pass on him.

  • Bosa is great but dt does not change the game we should be getting gordon back but who knows there that said we need offence I really like Elliott from Osu due to his ability without the ball and if you could get him and cardell in the second that would be great I think. Holy shit, is that even English?

Bosa isn't a 1tech tackle/nose, first and foremost. Second, you'll be unlikely to find a Buckeye more dedicated than myself - but hell fucking no to Cardale in the 2nd.

You pass because he's saving himself for the draft? They already won the national championship last year. And his "coasting" still requires double and triple teams. He will not coast once they get to the end of the season and are still unbeaten. Coasting against these D3 teams is understandable when you're not concerned about records but about getting to the pro's. If anything, seeing him letting off the gas peddle and still getting in based almost purely on technique makes me want him here more.

Actually, the stat is that 51 of their 53 man roster is from the Power 5 conferences, not from just the Big 10 and SEC. That would include the Pac 12 and the Big 12 and the ACC.

    Dalton came from TCU

So....per the list provided above by Flugel, the Browns have 6 guys on their roster from non Power 5 schools and the Bengals have 2.

And 2 of the Browns 6 "small schoolers" have made the Pro Bowl in their careers: Gipson and Tramon Williams

But neither of those were drafted.....Gipson was UDFA, and Williams a FA signing.

Both Des. Bryant and Greco were also veteran FA signings. Meder was a UDFA

So....that means that the one and only player on the Browns roster that they drafted that is not a P5 guy is Armonty Bryant. (except Flugels list must be wrong because Pierre Desir is also no P5)

COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State junior defensive end Joey Bosa was today named one of four finalists for the 46th Lombardi Award. This is the second consecutive year that Bosa has been named a finalist, and he joins a select group of four previous Buckeyes who have been named a finalist twice: linebacker Chris Spielman (1986-87), offensive tackle Orlando Pace (1995-96), linebacker Andy Katzenmoyer (1997-98) and linebacker James Laurinaitis (2007-08).

Bosa, who has more career tackles for loss than any current collegian (49.5) and the second-most quarterback sacks (25), is vying to win the Lombardi Award on the 10th anniversary of Ohio States last winner: A.J. Hawk in 2005.

The three other finalists for the 2015 Rotary Lombardi Award are also defensive ends: Texas A&Ms Myles Garrett; Clemsons Shaq Lawson and Penn States Carl Nassib. The 2015 honoree will be announced at the Rotary Lombardi Award presentation on December 9, 2015, at the Revention Music Center in downtown Houston, Texas. This years Rotary Lombardi Award ceremony will be broadcast by FOX Sports Southwest.

Bosa, from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has been dominant and disruptive this year as the leader of an Ohio State defense that ranks second nationally in scoring defense, ninth nationally in total defense and with Top 10 rankings in both passing yards allowed and passing efficiency. Bosa has 40 tackles, including 15.0 tackles for losses totaling 54 yards plus 4.0 sacks. He also has 11 quarterback hurries and four pass breakups.

A communications major, Bosa is also a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award and he is on the midseason watch list for the Ted Hendricks Award. He was a unanimous All-American in 2014 when he was named the Big Tens defensive player of the year and its defensive lineman of the year.

Bosas finalist honor represents the 16th time that Ohio State has had a Lombardi Award finalist. Ohio State has produced a Lombardi Award winner six times.

His career stats are phenomenal and he is still technically only a junior. He also missed the Virginia Tech game for being a numbnut. Slim chance he comes back but his little bro is on the way. Spielman noted during the game this past week that Bosa has been dominant but does not have the sacks to show for it. Tons of pressures and penetrations.

Top NFL draft prospects almost always cite family considerations as the overwhelming factor in deciding whether to enter the draft as underclassmen. But in Joey Bosa's case, those considerations are decidedly different than most.

"The only possible thing that would keep me here is playing with [my brother] Nick. ...We'll see when the time comes," Bosa said on Monday, per Tim Shoemaker of the Ohio State-centric website Eleven Warriors.Ohio State's star defensive end, a junior and one of the nation's elite prospects, said that he has all but decided to apply for entry into the 2016 NFL Draft as an underclassman, save one reason to stay.

Nick Bosa is a five-star recruit from Florida high school football powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas, where Joey Bosa played as well, and has committed to the Buckeyes. Nick Bosa plays the same position as his brother (defensive end) and despite a knee injury that has ended his senior season at Aquinas, he's set to sign with the Buckeyes in February.

The older Bosa has been one of the top players in college football since his freshman year in 2013, when he recorded 13.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. He's drawn high praise from NFL scouts this season, despite having just four sacks.

If playing with his brother is the only thing that could compel Bosa to stay at OSU, it's fair to assume Bosa has no misgivings about whether he is ready for the challenges of a pro career, and there's no denying his talent. Bosa has until a Jan. 18 deadline to apply for early NFL draft entry, about two weeks before Nick will sign a letter-of-intent to play for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State Overview: Joey Bosa enters his junior campaign highly regarded, one of the best players in the country and a contender for all of the major awards in 2015 after being a finalist for three last year ... physically imposing and exceptionally talented, Bosa is the 27th unanimous All-American in school history as all five of the major All-American teams -- Associated Press, the Walter Camp Football Foundation, the American Football Coaches Association, Football Writers Association of America and The Sporting News -- named him to their first team in 2014 ... he was also named the Big Ten Conference's defensive player of the year and its defensive lineman of the year to join Buckeye greats John Simon (2012), Will Smith (2003) and Dan Wilkinson (1993) as OSU defensive linemen to earn both awards in the same season ... Bosa is a 25-game starter who is already 14th at Ohio State in career tackles-for-loss (34.5), ninth in TFL yards (187), seventh in quarterback sacks (21.0) and sixth in QB sack yards (154) ... has 99 career tackles, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, both for touchdowns (vs. Northwestern in 2013 and vs. Wisconsin in 2014) ... his FFs and FRs have led to 44 Ohio State points the past two seasons ... earned OSU Scholar-Athlete status after his freshman campaign ... is majoring in communications.

2014 Season (Sophomore): Dominant play and spectacular plays earned Bosa unanimous All-America honors, distinction as the Big Ten's Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year and its Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year, and "finalist" honors by three of the major national awards: the Rotary Lombardi Award, the Outland Trophy and the Ted Hendricks Award ... he led the Big Ten in tackles-for-loss (21.0 for 116 yards in losses), quarterback sacks (13.5) and "shrugs" ... ranked 14th nationally in TFLs and 10th in sacks ... tied an Ohio State record held by linebackers Ryan Shazier and Andy Katzenmoyer with a TFL in 14 consecutive games ... recorded possibly the first "walk-off" sack in the history of the game -- has there been another one? -- when he overpowered a Penn State back on a fourth-and-5 play in the second overtime, knocking him backward and toppling quarterback Christian Hackenberg for a game-ending sack to clinch Ohio State's 31-24 double overtime victory ... it was part of a six-tackle and 2.5-sack game for Bosa, who was named Athlon's national defensive player of the week as well as the Big Ten's defensive player of the week for his efforts ... had sacks in five consecutive games at one point and multi-sack games six times ... had a personal best 3.0 TFLs vs. Illinois ... tied for Big Ten lead with four forced fumbles which, coupled with his fumble recovery in the Big Ten title game vs. Wisconsin, led directly or indirectly, but mostly directly, to 37 Ohio State points:

    37 points off Bosa turnovers/plays in 2014...

    • 7 points -- His forced fumble on Navy QB Keenan Reynolds was scooped up by Darron Lee and returned 61 yards for a third-quarter touchdown.
    • 7 points -- His sack and forced fumble of Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Brewer was recovered by Rashad Frazier at the VT 15. Two plays later Ezekiel Elliott scored to tie the game at 21-all.
    • 9 points -- In the win over Cincinnati, Bosa delivered a devastating strip-sack of UC QB Gunner Kiel. The ball was batted out of the end zone for a safety and Ohio State scored on its possession after the free kick.
    • 7 points -- His strip-sack and forced fumble on Michigan QB Devin Gardner was scooped up by Darron Lee and returned 33 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown.
    • 7 points -- He recovered a fumble and returned it four yards for a touchdown in the Big Ten championship game vs. Wisconsin to give Ohio State a 38-0 lead going into halftime.

2013 Season; (Freshman) Bosa earned freshman All-America honors by The Sporting News and College Football News after registering 44 tackles for the Buckeyes, including 13.5 tackles-for-losses totaling 71 yards ... he ranked third on the team in TFLs and quarterback sacks (7.5), and he had a team-high total of six quarterback hurries ... he ranked sixth in the Big Ten in sacks and 11th in TFLs ... he was tied for third with 5.5 quarterback sacks in Big Ten Conference games ... was named the Big Ten freshman of the week after his two-quarterback sack (-14 yards) game vs. Northwestern that included his recovering a fumble for a touchdown in the end zone on the last play of the game (a 40-30 Ohio State win) ... he had two TFLs, including a quarterback sack, and three quarterback pressures in the loss to Michigan State in the Big Ten championship game ... named honorable mention all-Big Ten Conference.

More on Joey: Bosa was one of the premier football prospects in the Class of 2013 with impressive overall rankings nationally of No. 38 (Scout), No. 47 (Rivals), No. 56 (ESPN) and No. 53 (247Sports) ... a Scout five-star prospect, Bosa earned the No. 4 overall ranking at his position -- strong side defensive end -- by both Scout and Rivals ... he was an Under Armour All-American and second-team all-USA Today pick ... the leader of a St. Thomas Aquinas defense that allowed approximately 12 points a game ... • Still like Ragland more than Bosa even though they play different positions

  • I agree Bacon. Ragland is probably the best middle backer they've had, and that's saying something. With his lateral movement, they're able to easily play a dime defense against spread teams.

White DL by and large suck. Obviously not the case with Bosa, just saying.

If Bosa could suck as bad as that white stiff JJ Watt's his name, then I am all in.

Some other recent white stiffs quickly off the top of my head:

    Justin Smith

    Jared Allen

    Ryan Kerrigan

Paul Kruger -- he can play some DE regardless how the Browns are fucking up his and everybody else's season

    Kyle Williams

    Brett Kiesel

Jamie Meder -- kinda outplaying Shelton

All kidding aside, Bosa is a freakish, once in a generation talent. You can line him up anywhere on the line in any scheme and he will kick ass. He could also stand up if necessary, which is something the dumbass Browns coaching staff would probably do if they drafted him.

He is also durable and has a hardcore motor to go with a nasty, mean streak. The comparisons to Watt are extremely legit. Bosa has a crazy wingspan and athletic ability of a TE or hoops player.

The guy is a byyaadd dude, which means any naysayers don't need to worry about us drafting him. I could see the Pittsburglars pulling off some draft day shit to somehow land another Buckeye. They like Ohio players and Buckeyes, the Browns and their genius leadership STR like anything but.

  • Some words from other boards and top draftniks that Bosa is the top choice of the draft. Shit will be interesting...

Would you care if Bosa had been playing for Michigan and tearing up OH St for the past 3 years? I wouldn't. I'd be like ok you made my Saturdays miserable now come here and personally make it up to me by making my Sunday vastly more enjoyable. No homerism here "at all" when it comes to Bosa.....or Elliot for that matter. The only homerism would be someone wanting to draft Barret or Jones with a high pick.
