The Browns Board
16.0k 396 570.2k 1
  • bye, Jm. I would never have drafted ye in the first place. The Browns took a chance,

and once again, it blew up in their face.

Instead of a wr, they drafted gilbert, who still hasn't become a starting cb.

They finally drafted wr in the 4th round, and he couldn't even make the practice squad.

They signed Bowe with having to beg him not to retire, with a 9mil guaranteed contract.

Major mistakes. Truth as I see it - this coaching staff - maybe excluding the offense coaches....

has risen to the proverbial level of their incompetence. It worked better last year when they

hadn't implemented all their complications and good-on-paper/bad-on-the-field personnel

package switcharoos on pretty much every series of downs.

These Browns players deserve MUCH BETTER than these coaches, and this GM.

They've played every down, all out, and wanted so badly to win.

And their coaches keep getting outcoached. As time has gone on, the players look

    extremely frustrated on defense,

and the constant (that did change a bit in the squealer game) running on first down...

giving the offense only two downs to get a first down so many times....

is idiotic. What the (*&)(*& game plan calls for running on first down most all the time????

This team - the players - are going backwards in effectiveness.

Apparently, Shanny saw this clusterfook (takes one to know one, eh, shanny?) for what it was,

and bailed out, using Farmer's arrogant texting to the sidelines as leverage.

These players deserve better. I'd make Flip the interim HC, put Peyton Manning in as GM (

interesting that Haslam is good friends with the Mannings), put Kosar in as assistance OC...

    and go for it.

When I heard Kosar and Sam Rutigliano saying the coaching IS THE PROBLEM, not the players...

I buy it. But the offense, minus elite weapons at wr, works.

This defense works less and less as Pettine and Oneil complicate it.

Pettine's on paper ideas aren't working on the field. And blaming all the players for that,

is just looking the wrong direction for a correction in the direction, resulting in perplexion.

Meanwhile, Johnny has serious problems, he did in college, per his father, and he's so gone.

Trade him, he can play when not suspended or drunk, but he's short on stature, short on

self-discipline, and he needs to go. Somewhere.

Sadly, there are plenty of qb's without the skills of JM, that will be better qb's on and off the field,

because they have their heads screwed on straight.

JM has used up every second chance he's been given. It would send a very bad message to

the rest of the team of guys who are all in and want to win - to keep bending over backwards

to try to let JM keep getting on the field as the starter, or even with the team.

Jm is over. Maybe that will wake him up, but the Browns don't have another year to waste, waiting

    on him.

And I don't think anybody believes that pettine and co will all of a sudden get it all right after changing it all up

    for next year.

Pettine is still saying the "players just have to execute better", instead of admitting he is getting outcoached,

and his defense is a clusterfook of counter-intuitive

    complications.

It's too bad. None of us are getting any younger, Mr. Haslam. It's time to sit down with Sam Rutigliano,

Kosar, Dieken, Golic, Dixon, etc.... and freakin get some good advice on how to get it right the next time.

P.S. Brian Sipe and Clay Mathews want a championship, too, They aren't getting any younger, either.

So, here's a funny bit from page 2 of this thread.....me included....

    London views his crystal ball....

    Canton dawg too...

Ag says ..."he couldnt be THAT stupid".....

And I agree..."no ones THAT stupid".......except, apparently, Johnny....

I shoulda known better...fool me once-shame on you.....BUT fool me 15 times?, well then fuck off.....

    Good stuff.

Don't forget mine, when I saw the picture of Johnny at the OSU game:

"This is the best post I have seen in a long time, because Johnny is spending his bye week in Ohio and not running back to Texas.

Maybe he is finally taking this shit seriously.

I wonder if JM going to tOSU game, and Food Bank was just a PR stunt (knowing what happened in TX could come back to bite him).

    Just speculation on my part.

  • This is all on Johnny, he lied to the coaches. He thought he could get away with it, of course he got caught. I hope Farmer is gone too, Pettine maybe. The players are all good, except they need a quarterback and a couple of good running backs.

No I didn't. I agreed with the point that is Manziel performed on the field, and deserved to start again.

You know, the point both you and I said. I know comprehension is hard, junior.

Only Johnny hasn't performed on the field. Brady Quinn once had a 350 yard game against Detroit, it meant little.

Tom Brady makes plays week in and week out. That's where I was going with this. It's not some, ' oh you did good, here you have a reprieve for one whole week' situations.

Until Manziel demonstrates commitment and that ability every game, then you'll be the only person on this board misinterpreting what I say.

    Junior....

Id say Johnny certainly produced against the Steelers. Tom Brady did not make plays week in and week out when he first started, he didn't even have his first 300 yard game until his fourth start IIRC. Very similar to Johnny. Johnny is just getting his partying out of the way earlierz

  • Well said, mud. One straw too many. I don't know this, but I'm guessing that during his time at A&M, he got away with a lot, much more than was ever reported. His incredible talent made it easy to overlook the probable partying.

Not a new story. It happens all the time. Yet again people like me are saying "if I made millions to play a game, I'd never screw it up". And it might even be true, but not for Johnny. Or dozens, hundreds, thousands of others who have screwed up.

It's depressing that this is likely the end of the Manziel--Browns experiment. I was so hoping that the Browns would grow to love Johnny as he "wrecked the league". Looks like he will forever be another in a long line of failed qb's for Browns fans, and it's his own fault.

I truly believe he has the ability to be a good qb in the League, maybe even great. Sadly, his extracurricular proclivities may prevent us from ever knowing how good he could have been.

    Very depressing.

That's about as realistic a summary as is possible and from an admitted A&M and Johnny fan. What shocks me is the people who are still defending him and saying he did nothing wrong.

  • OK, I said I was closing the thread hours ago, please vent in the NEW Johnny 3rd String Thread. Love ya all.

    Peace, The Hoorta. 🙂

  • With all due respects to Emerson, Lake, & Palmer

"Welcome my friends to the clusterf**k that never ends. We're so glad you could attend, step inside, step inside."

If "The Move" was a 10 on the depression meter, I'm feeling about an 8 right now. 🙁

  • I'm just amazed how someone can read that the coaching staff told him what was expected of him over the bye week and then he went out and did exactly what they didn't want him to be doing and there's still some fanboys around here who are defending him and just as shocking....the fanboys defending it, aren't even all of the A&M dudes that showed up where when this assclown was drafted.

Pettine said he, offensive coordinator John DeFilippo and quarterbacks coach Kevin O'Connell had spoken with Manziel before the bye to make clear they expected he would handle himself "the right way."

"The bye week would be ... wouldn't use the word 'test,' but that's essentially what it ended up being," Pettine said.

How can anyone say he did nothing wrong? He was made aware of the expectations that the team had of him and he took those expectations and pissed all over them.

  • Just sick of it. Losing apparently means nothing to some of these Browns players. What is it that motivates Manziel to party anyway? Is it our 2-8 record? What motivates a Browns player to have a jersey swap with Gurley after a game where the Rams put our noses in the mud and knocked our quarterback out of the game? Obviously it is because they are just collecting a check regardless and winning is an afterthought. Someone posted earlier about some of the Browns players playing loud music and acting like they were celebrating in the locker room after getting thoroughly outplayed by the Rams. That was not substantiated but I have seen enough already to believe it.

  • I think his alleged intentions are rational, but his apparent

alcoholism is not, as is with any other alcoholic.

    His addiction? is self-destructing him.

    Just sad.

  • I'm so tired of this franchise . . . Just an abomination

I don't even know what to say about how terrible this thing is

  • The over/under on the draft pick we receive for trading him this off season....... I'll put it at a 4th.

Because he did nothing wrong. And I'm not a fanboy, I could give a shit less who starts.

But a coaching staff that tries to coach players on what they are allowed to do on their own time, during a bye week, is no coaching staff that I would ever fucking want in this city.

The only disgrace here is how Pettine handles adult, professional football players. And I'm not the only one who feels that way.

    Kevin Jones@Mr_KevinJones
Browns player to me via text: "This season has been an absolute shit show."

And for those that claim the front office was "in" on this decision - this is from Pettine's own mouth:

"GM and the owner are certainly 2 people I want to keep in the loop but it was simply to inform them of what we had decided"

Pettine KNOWS he's fired. So he was looking for any and all reason to bench Manziel. This was a complete non-story, ask Duke Johnson, ask Peter King - they've all voiced their opinion on this story.

Mike Pettine has absolutely no fucking say whatsoever on what a player does in their down time - he is not their employer. He doesn't sign their checks, nor does he have the ability to release them carte blanche. Pettine is nothing more than a supervisor, and a bad one at that. The only control Pettine has is whether or not to play Manziel, and he's executed that right - to the dismay of the fanbase and likely the owner as well. Regardless of what was said Manziel "promised" he would do, he's a free adult with a essentially a 14 day vacation. He volunteered, he took photos with fans at the Ohio State game, and he went to a nightclub. Hardly a fucking distraction - yet now it's blown entirely out of proportion because the only fans left of this shithole franchise are old enough to have watched Otto Graham play in person.

If you want to call this a violation of team rules - so be it. But don't act like Manziel did anything wrong, because he didn't.

I absolutely cannot wait for Mike Pettine to be fired. I think I'll relish that day more than when we beat Pittsburgh. The dude is a monumental fuckup with absolutely zero clue of how to be a professional head coach.

    That's exactly it Mark.

Let's look at the the possibilities I've come up with.

    1) the "Conspiracy " scenario. Manziel did this on purpose, because he can't stand Pettine, and wants to buy his ticket out of town. In that case, mission accomplished. But why bother to go to rehab for 11 weeks? You could have just continued to be a jerk, and got booted before Training Camp.

    2) the corollary to that would be he doesn't respect authority- and hasn't "grown up" yet.

    3) (Most likely) he's a serious alky- and can't control himself. As my Counselor friend has on the blackboard in letters a foot high "YET"

Yo, TCPO I'm old- but not old enough to remember Otto playing. A I see it- the coaching staff was trying to protect Manziel from himself. They know why Johnny went to rehab. They (meaning Haslam) sign his paychecks. Sure as hell they can set conditions as to what he can or can't do- especially if (to them) he has a known booze problem. Let's put it this way- if you get busted for a DUI, and they send you to drunk school- there's a condition. No drinking for 72 hours. Know what happens if you get caught boozing? Jail, my friend.

If you watch the initial Pettine interview- he was obviously distraught, and disappointed about the situation.

You're as good as your word- and Manziel "promised" he wouldn't be a distraction. Whoops, wrong.

If I had a million dollar a year job, and my boss told me stay out of bars- or else, you think I wouldn't get the message? Apparently Johnny either doesn't give a damn, or can't help himself.
