You people act like he was arrested for concealed weapons, shot himself in the leg, knocked out his fiancé, abused his 5 year old child, ran someone over and KILLED them while drunk, electrocuted a bunch of dogs, or was involved in a murder . . . you guys see where I'm going here.

    Dude went to a club . . . Had some drinks . . . on his weekend off . . . That's what happened.

I get that he totally fucked his rookie season, but they gave him a second chance, and by all accounts he's been doing everything he needed to do to improve, and it showed on the field. Is the guy progressing on the field on Sundays, is he where he needs to be when he is supposed to be there (practice, meetings, whatever) is he suspended by the league? That's all that should concern Pettine . . . since when is the HC the teams PR manager? I'm tired of hearing about how we want character guys, guys who work hard in practice, guys who study the film and blah blah blah . . . . I want guys who can win football games . . . PERIOD. Maybe Johnny was that guy and maybe he wasn't, but now we'll never know cause the HC wanted to micro manage everything he did on and OFF the field. We may get to find out if he ends up in Dallas . . . or some other team.

Another rookie QB that got sucked into the blackhole that is the Cleveland Browns organization.

  • One thing that may come up is whether or not he is in the NFL substance abuse program......and I think there is a very good chance that he is.....

Reading the policy, he meets ALL the criteria for the program. With his college issues and very visible drinking habits, then a public admission followed by rehab.....he "should" be at minimum, stage one in the program.....My guess is he could be stage 2.....we will soon find out....

One of the interesting aspects to the new policy is that you can avoid your first suspension by obtaining "treatment"(ala rehab) for your problem. But continued use of that or ANY substance(including alcohol, ask Josh) will get you fined and or suspended.....

So, I would not be surprised to hear he has an upcoming suspension...4 games?....10 games?.....

And I could be 100% wrong......but if you read the policy....its all there in black and white....

And, before anyone says "we would know"... the fine for leaking any info is $500,000

He admitted to drinking the day the police pulled him over for the gf incident and there was no mention of this what so ever

You'll be waiting a long time.

  • The thing is, though, that Johnny is who he always was. The Browns and Pettine would not have known or cared what he did as long as he showed up for work. Then the damn video came out.

Hell, if Johnny had started Monday and won, then the video had come out Tuesday, would the punishment be the same?

Everyone knew what Ray Rice did, but until everyone saw the video, he was going to still be an NFL running back.

It's just a damn shame that something so silly and seemingly harmless (having fun drinking in a bar) could cost so much. But if Johnny promised to stay away from bars, I don't see what else Pettine could have done.

    UUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

He dictated what one player, yes one, player did in their free time after they have been shown to make shitty life decisions that effects their ability to be prepared for football games. If Johnny had been a drunk who showed up and knew the game plan, no one would give a shit.

He has been this season. Showing up and knowing the game plan. Even the coach says so.

However, he did not last season and is two weeks removed from getting into a Jerry Springer episode with his old lady. The coaches told him to lay low and the guy can't follow simple directions.

I really dont care what they say.. It's all hogwash with this organization of pure shit.

  • Well after todays solid reads I am down to loading up The Soul Train. We package all our Secret Double Probation Offenders which at this time is lead by Josh Gordon, Manziel & Gilbert and throw them at Phiily/Dallas yata yata & take what we can get & move on.. Happy Thanks 4 Giving 😛

  • This could be a step in the right direction. The whole so what if we lose attitude seems to be on notice and accountability for ones actions is a rather new concept here too. About time I say. Everybody in the world has talked of the culture of losing here. Well, how do you change that culture without hurting feelings? you don't! Wow! Our Browns are getting a lesson in how to "man up" and it's about time!

  • I'll make this brief as the issue is so black and white its not even funny. Johnny is named the starter but with certain conditions.

-Bury yourself completely in the playbook and practice. Even on days off, go work on your drop backs and release, get in a good workout.

Johnny has had ONE good game in his career. He has a chance to build upon that. Go look up the twitters for Bortles, Winston, Mariota. Young QB's.

You won't find that they've flown half way across the country to go clubbing.

-Stay away from booze because you're a recovering addict plus you can't tell me alcohol in the season is good for ANY athlete. For all the partying Gronk does you don't hear much about it during the season or post season.

-Don't draw media attention to yourself in a negative light and stay focused.

Johnny did NOT adhere to the ground rules established by Pettine and I presume Farmer as well. Therefore if he cannot hold to his word off the field, he simply won't play on the field. QB is held to a higher standard in this league. You're the most important piece on the field, you have the most responsibility and weight to carry. Dedication to your craft for 16 weeks straight is a MUST. Especially when you're a young QB and you've experienced the setbacks and limitations Manziel has and has brought upon himself.

It's that fucking simple. In our world, the world of the every day working man, there is nothing wrong with what Johnny did. I agree. But Johnny isn't the every day working man. He's an NFL QB. It's not like a normal 'job' because it isn't a 'job'. Sure you'll hear the phrase " We all have a job to do" thrown around often, but these players and we as fans know damn well that being a professional athlete is the furthest thing from a typical career.

Anyone defending Johnny 'he did nothing wrong'... "but, but but OTHER guys etc etc' ' Look what xx player did' - get bent. That's a typical deflection and has NOTHING to do with Manziel. But have a happy Thanksgiving while you're at it.
