  • Canton Dawg, it may not be that way in the sad lives of the beta males that post here, but in coaches' homes, the women don't actually wear the pants. Not attacking you. I just can't stand when I see "but his wife...!!!" whenever a man's career is discussed.

How many years have you been married?

Zero. Look at any coach's resume and see how many times his wife put her foot down about moving. The average coach in his 50s has probably made about 10 stops in his career.

I remember when Ann Romney 100% was NOT going to allow Mitt to run again in 2012. By the way, you can even find some Meyer articles where he says after Florida his wife and daughters told him he wasn't allowed to coach again. Well, he promised them he wouldn't lose his mind again, and the rest is history.

  • Gruden, Cowher, Dungy, Manning, Saban, and now Meyer.

Let's just bring them all on board and get 1 super staff.

    ---

Regardless, none of these rumors should be taken with the slightest seriousness as long as Pettine is the coach.

Even so, I don't want Urban Meyer - the guy is not an NFL coach, period.

Saban is much better suited to coach in the NFL - if we're talking about unrealistic head coach prospects that could make the jump.

If we fire Pettine we'll hear all these great names in full force - then we'll pick up the jags defensive backs coach in March, per usual.

    I hear ya man.

Guys like St Nick and Ferentz not only coached in the NFL - they coached right here in Cleveland alongside other about-to-be successes Ozzie Newsome and Bill Belichick (love em or hate em). While I'm at it, another guy that received an invaluable learning experience from that staff was Jim Schwartz - who experienced some degree of success as a Head Coach in Detroit (which hasn't been a very easy thing to accomplish over the years) after serving as a DC in TN.

LOL-maybe the correct question should have been, "How many times do you think you'll be marred?" That at least gives him a chance. 😆

So, now we can put the Urban Meyer speculation to rest too......he spoke.....its not gonna happen(but who really thought it would???)

"I am proud and honored to be the head football coach at The Ohio State University,"Meyer said, via the Dispatch. "I have no interest whatsoever in any other position outside of my job coaching the Buckeyes."

That can only mean we're minutes from reading or hearing Bill Cowher is in town looking at real estate again. He's almost coming to town as frequently as Santa Claus.

I still think Jim Schwartz could be a good idea here. Any Head Coach that could put the Detroit Lions in the playoffs has my intrigue. I also like knowing he was one of the young guys learning in the rebuild that led to our last playoff win as well as knowing he uses sound schemes.

Another non-glamorous guy that could potentially be a nice fit would be Mike Munchak, who is currently Pittsburgh's Offensive Line Coach. He didn't do that bad as a Head Coach in TN especially considering what's happened since then (4-23 football). When he was a Head Coach he selected Bruce Matthews as his Oline coach. I know I'm getting ahead of myself but this would put 2 HOF linemen in charge of improving our running game and protecting our passers. While I'm at it with getting ahead of myself, access to Bruce Matthews could give us access to Clay Matthews (who has been coaching football). That wouldn't suck.

Munchak? No... not as HC, but count me in for going after Bruce as OL Coach.

Hell... make it a family reunion and tab Clay as our LB Coach.

I think for the media to run to Meyer with this story is ridiculous. And its based on what? A fan generated rumor?

I'm hoping Matthews is looking at a coaching job right up Hwy 6 from his Houston home...

Jim Turner is available and is a star, as is Mike Sherman.

... and I just heard Belichick has said he's always considered Cleveland, a job he'd "left undone. It might be time to finish it."

Only if he brings a Tom Brady like QB with him.
