I can't imagine there would not be grounds for some sort of dismissal without pay or early contract release for the Cleveland Browns if in fact a player refused to take the field.

If any player ever did refuse flat out to play for the team paying him, he would basically be blackballed, never to be trusted by another team, certainly any that has any connection to that team. You would have to be certifiably insane to do such a thing.

That being said, Justin Gilbert seems like one of the dumbest fucks around, which in the world of professional sports takes some doing.

I don't know if the story is true or not. Even as big of a knucklehead as Gilbert is I don't think he would push it this far. Anyway if true and swift and immediate discipline was not taken I would want to know why? If the Browns are cleaning house and giving a class HC walking papers then why are they putting up with players like Gilbert and Manziel who been nothing but a cancer to the team?

I understand why Pettine was let go as his record is 3-18 in the last 21 games but I also look at the cards he was given. He had to babysit Manziel almost from the time JM was signed as well as the circus atmosphere and distractions that came with Manziel. Other players as well on this team who were acting far from being professional such as Gilbert.

IMO your x-head coach was that bad...Gilbert is part of the solution(for the next head coach)

Gilbert has the tools just needs to be with the right coach

from St Louis and I follow the draft...thought the Browns were the worst coached team I saw all of last year when the Rams played them..that is saying a lot becauseFfisher and his staff are also very bad. IF I was a Browns fan I wouldn't make any decisions on the players till you guys get your next hc...let him sort it out

Gilbert was very good in college...slightly stiff and some character issues but looked to become a good starting nfl cb in time..

Shouldn't the team be allowed to withhold his pay if he says something like this?

I mean, I know the coaches sucked....but this cannot be allowed without serious repercussions. Retroactive suspension and fine should apply.

After Gilbert's horrible rookie year he promised going into this season things would be different. I took him at his word. He didn't keep it.

A really good friend of mine is in the scouting department for the Chargers, and for what it is worth he said that the Chargers wanted nothing to do with Gilbert or Manziel to the point they took them off there draft board all together. They thought Gilbert was lazy, and thought he excelled in College because he his a great athlete and that we would get eaten alive in the NFL. I guess they were right.....

Yes he did. He said different....not better. He was worse this year than last....so he kept that promise.

And Gordon isn't done in the NFL. I feel it. I was at FSU when a scrawny kid that ran like a scalded dog showed up. He was more talented than anybody had evwr seen, yet he was trouble. He torched everybody in practice as a freshman, but everyone knew he wouldn't last. He was Randy Moss. Still haven't seen anyone like him.

I would make statements to the press regarding Gordon. I would say we are.completely committed to his rehabilitation and growth as a productive player in the NFL. Have you read about Gordon partying in Vegas? Getting into drunk battles with a woman? Anything? I haven't. I think he's coming back, and I want him HERE.
