Browns to interview Patriots DC Matt Patricia
-
Why? Look at his resume.. I'm scratching my head
living in the south, I will slow it down for you
. Their in another guy that was born in NC. His name Zach Galifianakis. His character name was Allen in the movie classics called "The Hangover". Check it out. Farmer needed to use his lines in presser. Now can you picture this guy on our sidelines? I really thought killing a Giraffe would do it
Good Day Now!! -
The sooner the Patriots get beaten the sooner he can be interviewed, but there will be others. What about Hue Jackson from the Bungals? Learnt a lot from the Raiders experience, done very well at Cincy and know the AFC North intimately.

I'm on board with Jackson.

Patricia would seem to be a philosophical match for Brown and DePodesta. I'm thinking given these circumstances (which I have mixed feelings about, but we have to play the hand we're dealt) this is my preferred HC option.
-
On the whole I don't think our D measured up to "Patriot smart"...
As I asked in another thread, can someone name a Belichick coordinator that has become a successful NFL HC?
-
Dude looks like a Cleveland guy

I'd love this hire
I'd love this hire
Me too. Big time.

My first thought was...oh shit we've already done the DC from the Patriots before but the more I think about this guy I kinda like it. He's not the "hot coordinator that needs to be a HC" like Romeo was. No one is talking about this guy so maybe he's going to be good. Why not give him a shot. What's the worst that can happen?? We suck for 2 years and we fire him too....not like that hasn't happened before..

He's apparently very meticulous and seems like he'd fit into the moneyball approach. He also has a nice engineering degree so must be pretty good with numbers too.
I'm not sure many of the other names could fit in as well with what we're doing.

They always seem to make chicken salad out of chicken shit on defense there in NE. Some might say "Well, former DC BB is in charge and that is why". But it can't be as simple as that.
From the outside, it really looks as simple as finding schemes that put players with talent in position to succeed. Every player in the NFL is talented in some way - yes, even Justin Gilbert - but if you ask them to do things they're not good at they'll fail. If you ask them to play to their strengths and find ways to disguise that, they'll do well.
Like how Sheard went from 2 sacks a year ago here, to 8 in NE. Like how Dion Lewis went from 'that guy who looks decent in preseason' to 'best pass catching back in the league' in NE. And how 'generic skill play 173' became a superstar there.

Right. I subscribe 100% what you say.

lol... maybe on the numbers, but definitely analytical as hell...
I am astonished at how quickly our next HC has been found. Apparently based upon a degree he doesn't come close to using and facial hair...

I like him as a coach prospect, was joking about the cool points and beard thing...
The only thing people don't like about him is Belichik does everything and Crennel
Neither seem like good reasons to me

Not listened to this yet, listening shortly.

I knew that... but what exactly do you know about him that makes you like him?
Heard him speak?
Read an interview?
Would love a link... or three...
I've seen banter of Patriots fans who have said they'd like him to be next-up behind Bill B in 5 or whatever years - which can't be too bad.
I've seen some interviews of him and such - and I like them, not that you can gain a whole lot from the short media interviews. He seems knowledgable enough to me, seems like he knows all his players - expects everybody active to be ready to go, he's always active on the sidelines etc.
He's been with the pats for 12, 13 years or something and started there at the most bottom of the barrel position you can get - worked his way up to D coord where he's been 4? years.
Seems like he's the young, hungry, knowledgeable guy we could use.
I couldn't come up with any better reasons that I like for Gase, Austin, Marrone, McDermott, Schwartz, McDaniels, Kelly, Guenther (damn we're interviewing a lot of people - well, some of those names may not have confirmed interviews)
Hue Jackson is a different story from the rest IMO - I think he's past due for a head coaching gig somewhere and I could see him succeeding wherever he goes.
I mean everybody who isn't lobbying for Patricia or Jackson seems to be lobbying for Gase, Kelly, McDaniels and I'm not too sure why - they have more serious issues in their resumes than Patricia or Jackson IMO.

Appreciate the response...
I place more than a little stock in the way candidates conduct themselves in interviews, how well spoken they are, how organized their thoughts are, what kind of sense of the person is there...
For contrast look at Flip and O'Neil... to me it was clear one was capable of inspiring his players to "buy in".
I am finding that other HCs put there OCs in spotlight less than Pet did, e.g., I only found one McDermott vid on the Panther's site.
Went back 7 months on the Pats' website and not a single Patricia clip. Should you come across a vid of him, please post the link...
Meanwhile I did find this one Boston Globe article:

Unfortunately the embedded video is not related.

Here's a couple

Thanks again...
In the first link to the podcast he came off as a bit of a dud, but much better feeling came out of link #2 to the Video. And loved the seat-stained cap...
Initially felt he lacked gravitas and a little self-assurance, and would therefore not interview well, but the more I listened, the more I liked.
