I like him as a coach prospect, was joking about the cool points and beard thing...
The only thing people don't like about him is Belichik does everything and Crennel
Neither seem like good reasons to me

I knew that... but what exactly do you know about him that makes you like him?
Heard him speak?
Read an interview?
Would love a link... or three...

I've seen banter of Patriots fans who have said they'd like him to be next-up behind Bill B in 5 or whatever years - which can't be too bad.
I've seen some interviews of him and such - and I like them, not that you can gain a whole lot from the short media interviews. He seems knowledgable enough to me, seems like he knows all his players - expects everybody active to be ready to go, he's always active on the sidelines etc.
He's been with the pats for 12, 13 years or something and started there at the most bottom of the barrel position you can get - worked his way up to D coord where he's been 4? years.
Seems like he's the young, hungry, knowledgeable guy we could use.
I couldn't come up with any better reasons that I like for Gase, Austin, Marrone, McDermott, Schwartz, McDaniels, Kelly, Guenther (damn we're interviewing a lot of people - well, some of those names may not have confirmed interviews)
Hue Jackson is a different story from the rest IMO - I think he's past due for a head coaching gig somewhere and I could see him succeeding wherever he goes.
I mean everybody who isn't lobbying for Patricia or Jackson seems to be lobbying for Gase, Kelly, McDaniels and I'm not too sure why - they have more serious issues in their resumes than Patricia or Jackson IMO.

Appreciate the response...
I place more than a little stock in the way candidates conduct themselves in interviews, how well spoken they are, how organized their thoughts are, what kind of sense of the person is there...
For contrast look at Flip and O'Neil... to me it was clear one was capable of inspiring his players to "buy in".
I am finding that other HCs put there OCs in spotlight less than Pet did, e.g., I only found one McDermott vid on the Panther's site.
Went back 7 months on the Pats' website and not a single Patricia clip. Should you come across a vid of him, please post the link...
Meanwhile I did find this one Boston Globe article:

Unfortunately the embedded video is not related.

Here's a couple

Thanks again...
In the first link to the podcast he came off as a bit of a dud, but much better feeling came out of link #2 to the Video. And loved the seat-stained cap...
Initially felt he lacked gravitas and a little self-assurance, and would therefore not interview well, but the more I listened, the more I liked.

He is From the Bill Belicheck coaching tree. Here are Belichecks students Hc records
Eric Mangini win percentage 41.3%
Romeo Crennel win percentage 28-55 33.7%
Charlie Weis win percentage 45.6%
Josh Mcdaniels win percentage 39.3%
Jim Schwartz win percentage 36.3%

Your tree is missing a branch. As I stated in another topic "there is another" (Yoda) that has yet to have a losing season and is currently in the playoffs@browns-superbowl-champions said:

Completely irrelevant.

Nick Saban, Bill O'Brien, Kirk Ferentz, Al Groh
I wouldn't call McDaniels a bad egg yet, many consider him up and coming
Jim Schwartz also is considered at least a good defensive coach, maybe not head coach
I think this is an invalid reason to dismiss Patricia

Enlighten me how this has anything to do with Patricia.

Same argument I made yesterday, but with win percentages...
But no, not a valid reason to dismiss... just question.

Saban: 15-17 and bolted Miami which is the bigger issue to me.
Ferentz: nice college coach
Al Groh: 9-7 (85-92 in NCAA) and barely crossed paths with BB...
Well... you still have Bill O's promising start...
It's a cautionary thing. It is demonstrably very dangerous to infer NFL HC success capability from success associated with Bill B.
That is all...
-
I think the key to whoever is the new coach is does he completely buy into the analytical approach that the owner and the FO are pushing. If he's 100% in on it, he could be a successful coach with the Browns.
If he's just half assed into it, we're right back here next year or the year after starting over again.
-
I still wouldn't judge him based on Mangini and Crennel.
-
I like the idea of Patricia, but he's a project coach. He's not a vet that can turn a team around in 2 years. I would be "all" for letting Patricia build something from scratch ala marvin Lewis. But we all know "full" well that will never be allowed here in Cleveland. We'll be calling for Patricia to be tarred and feathered by Oct of next year.
-
But (supposedly) we are not embarking on another two-year turnaround effort...
