Rams Moving To Los Angeles
-
With the cost of a new decent stadium running around $1 billion, you sure the other owners are going to be willing to take a $32 million per hit to keep Davis in Oakland? Unless they hit the Chargers & Rams with hundreds of millions in relocation penalties.
Owners are each pitching a mill into a PowerBall pool...
Owners are each pitching a mill into a PowerBall pool...
That jackpot is almost big enough for someone to buy himself a team.
If you needed another reason to not shop at Wal Mart, here ya go. Stan Kroenke just screwed over a great sports city in St. Louis.
We know the pain of losing a team. I hope to God Haslam was one of the "no" votes.
Yeah I'd suggest you read the Wiki article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stan_Kroenke
As bad (maybe worse than) Modell. Wife is one of the Wal-Mart heirs. Pure carpetbagger. Fer sure, he just made himself a pile of money, as the Ram's franchise went up by a few hundred million in LA.
-
This is awesome news for me. The Rams were the only team that I wanted, as I hate the Raiders and the scummy gang bangers that wear their jerseys. I hoped the Chargers would stay in SD as that's where they belong.
Being a born and raised SoCal guy, I was a Rams fan as a little dude (when they were white and blue....... those unis were badass) and am glad to have them back.

Can you bus Todd Gurley around? His hometown Tarboro, NC has 7 traffic lights, under 15 stop signs & the rest was dirt Paths. Poor Fella barely got his Drivers License here!!
-
30-2 owners vote, wonder who the 2 were that were opposed?
Reports said Dee was there, not Jimmy.
-
I would have liked it better to see the NFL expand and add teams other than see San Diego and St. Louis lose their teams. I know how that feels. My early recollections of watching football was the "fearsome foursome" of the L.A. Rams and glad to see a large city like L.A. have football back (but 2?). Boom or bust. They go 20 years without a team and now get a couple of them.
-
I guess KC and Miami only two teams who voted against.
-
Rams moving immediately. Chargers have a year to negotiate to follow them. All very confusing if you ask me!

Based on what I heard, the Chargers would be second class citizens and at the behest of the flippant Kroenke.
Which I don't think they want. With the 100 million they will get from the league for stadium costs....hopefully they do something and stay in LA.
Same with Raiders.
One team in LA is more than enough.

I have more reasons.
The school where my daughter attends was also the school that Alice Walton attended. And that school ...of only 2500 students has over a billion dollars in endowment. (perhaps a lot of it donated by the Waltons..it is one of the highest per capita endowments in the country...for a non Ivy League school) But they are stingy as fucking hell with their money.
My son's school only has 1/5th the size endowment as my daughter's, but they gave him 4 times as much in grants compared to my daughter's. What does her school do instead? They make her take out piles and piles of student loans.......and guess who finances those loans for the school? The Walton family. So they profit from that...and they allow....or perhaps encourage the school to be uncommitted to meeting the financial needs of their students. That is a direct quote from from their financial aid office: "We are NOT committed to meeting the financial needs of our students". But they are committed to their image and their coffers.
On the other hand, Kenyon, my son's school has the opposite policy, written in: "We ARE committed to the financial needs of our students."
So, essentially that is the type of family you are dealing with. Unconcerned and uncaring about anything but the money in their pockets.

My sympathy to the St. Louis fans. We all went through the same thing 20 years ago.
But they still have their Cardinals and that's their true love. They'll be OK.
C'est la vie.

OK...but of course remember, St. Louis did to LA what LA is doing to them. So, I have a little less sympathy than perhaps I should.
But, of course it simply shows that it is the greed mongers who are in charge of the NFL.

OK, Rams should be in LA. Cardinals should be in St. Louis. Colts should be in Baltimore. Oilers should be in Houston. Arizona should have gotten an expansion team.
Indy....and Jacksonville......minor league towns where football is concerned IMO

By the way: the stupidest fucking thing about this is that the new LA stadium will NOT be ready for occupancy until 2019. So the Rams have to play in the LA Coliseum in 2016/2017/2018.
That would be like having a team playing still in old Muni. Stadium......or the Rubber Bowl for 3 years.

That's the best part for me. I haven't seen, let alone been to the Coliseum in 20 years and can't wait to go back. I have many memories in that place, from the Rams beating the Vikes in overtime on Nolan Cromwel's fake field goal run, to Eric MetCalf's run to the left with 3 seconds on the clock to beat the Raiders.
But my biggest memories are when I raced moto-cross in that stadium from '83 to '86 as a young professional motoXer...... I can't wait to go back, and will see at least 2 games this year.

Boy....thats twice St. Louis has lost their team......do they not support them?....or is there another reason.....

Nah- they had something like 86% sales on tickets- probably better than the Jaguars. St. Looie even offered Kroneke a new stadium- and I mentioned Edward Jones really isn't that bad. Goodell saying their plan was "inadequate" is pure BS. The NFL wanted a team back in LA at any and all costs. If you read some of the other stuff Kroneke is a sports mogul- had to divest several other pro teams just to become majority owner of the Rams. He's a worse carpetbagger than Modell. At least Artie's rationale can be 1\2 excused, he was going broke from bad business decisions- Stan craps money, and has a billionaire wife to boot. He saw he could increase the value of the Rams franchise by a couple hundred million just by moving back to LA.

"Bill Plaschke, LA Times:
The Lakers and Dodgers run this joint, and college football teams are giants, and nobody wins like the Kings, and nobody has more drama than the Clippers, and in 21 years Los Angeles has become arguably the nation's most interesting sports town — without the national pastime's help."

Didn't St. Louis have like a 300 page proposal and basically everything prepared ready to go.
While Oakland had like 6 pages and absolutely no plan to do anything, but they stay in Oakland.
doesn't really make sense to me.
Not sure about that- but both the city of Saint Louis AND the State of Missouri were willing to do "whatever it takes" to keep the Rams. Kroneke essentially shit on them.
-
The Raiders will get compensated by the league to stay in Oakland and get a new stadium built in Oakland. The Chargers have been leaving SD for 14 years and the Rams owner has wanted out of St. Louis since the day he bought the team.
& if they move the Rams- I feel for the city- have friends there. Their owner is a complete jackass. The city and state offered to build a new stadium, and apparently that's not good enough. FWIW, I went to the Browns Rams game this past year, and really, there's nothing wrong with the current place. St Louis is more of a baseball town, just like Cincinnati.
If Oakland won't build a new stadium for the Raiders- move 'em to St Louis.

Sorry for the loss Hoorta. Was it you & your wife's Win Loss record that may have had something to do with shutting down the Edwards Jones Dome? What was her record their again?
Hang in there!! -

St. Louis was the closest of the 3 cities to having a viable plan to build a new stadium by far. SD was a distant 2nd and Oakland never really started the race. Kronke always wanted out of St. Louis and that's really the bottom line. Just like the Chargers owner wants out of SD because he's been waiting for a new stadium for 14 years. The Oakland owner is the only one in this process who didn't shit all over his city and fan base so it makes the most sense for him to stay from that standpoint.

I understand the nostalgia. Its just that it is probably three levels below a viable NFL stadium, fair to say?

lol... I think I remember watching that. Didn't they pile dirt all the up the stands at the end where the arch is and use that for the start?

StL owner has the big checkbook... money trumps plans.
