Nike has money to burn anyway. I you buy a Browns jersey, you're supporting Nike though. Old Phil probably tosses a million a year or more at Oregon gifting those 50 different unis they wear. Heard Ohio State got bought out to be Nike exclusive- to the tune of $250 million for the next couple decades.

Maybe on the way to the airport 😛

The fact he's gone into hiding and refuses to show his face or talk to anybody is concerning at this point.

Yup, if he doesn't show to talk to Hue, he's done.

  • Whatever happened to giving people the benefit of the doubt?

Innocent until proven guilty? You don't know Manziel. Or his struggle. We each have our own. Nobody knows if he snorts cocaine on a REGULAR basis or Drinks and Drives. Whether or not he BEAT his girlfriend. If he had a concussion or was pulled because another social media post. It's the day and age we live in folks. Many of you are not of this new generation, nor am I, but at least I know that this is the new normal. We're not going to be able to go back to the days of Paul Brown... however bad I wish we could...

He's not that bad of a kid. He's a young man with the world as his oyster, and he can't come out of his house. And with every camera aimed his direction(even his own) any small mistake take center stage. It's pure pressure. You think you have a problem with something? Take that and magnify it 1000%.

Johnny I ain't mad at you. I don't want to take being young from you, and I don't know why others would. I accepted what came with Manziel when we took him and understood that he would be an American fixation. Accept, grin and bear it and let's win some football game in dramatic fashion. Lights camera action.

I know you're going to support Johnny to the bitter end- (just like Richardson). Did you listen to Hue's presser? Character and accountability, traits JFF is sorely lacking in. Color him way gone. I personally will be shocked if Manziel is still on the Browns roster when training camp opens.

  • There are plenty of young men in the NFL who handled their business, showed up everyday to work and did everything that was asked of them as a player and teammate. Billy didn't and you cant blame that on age. His team mates went to battle against a desperate Steeler team......Billy went to party. His next locker room will be a challenge.

  • He's a playmaker and makes things happen on the field. Did you watch the games? The announcers the whole time can't stop raving about what he does out there. And we're typically listening to the same announcers that diss us all game. But Wow, did you see manziel do this? Oh, look at that, he's magic~ ect. ect.

Yeah, best QB we've had but he sucks cause you can't handle social media...

  • Both seasons he's been here he's had to sit behind coaches favorite. We've got a coach now that is offensive minded and can see potential where Pettine only cared about who could provide the most wins... in which case he was also wrong.

When Manziel is successful and making things happen and he's engaged, there are no problems. You sit him on the bench for 2 years and playmakers get restless.

He has some talent but isn't a professional.

He SAT because he didn't work at the game. He thought he'd "made it" when he was drafted and didn't have to work anymore.

He has a big arm, but only throws one kind of pass - a hard line drive pass.

For a small guy, he'll get a lot of them blocked at the line.

Without being able to throw the high arc, touch-pass-to-the-corner-of-the-end-zone-that-only-his-receiver-can-catch he'll fail in the red zone as a passer.

He isn't poison because of social media.

He's poison because - as an alcoholic - today he says he won't do anything to embarrass the team, then tomorrow takes selfies of himself drinking away and posts them to the internet.

He has personal problems that he needs to address and isn't doing so to this point.

In today's NFL - and general world of instant gratification - there's no time to wait for him to grow up.

  • While I feel bad for Manziel, I really can't understand the loyalty some of you have for this kid. If it's rooting for the underdog, you're really misplaced. He has never been an underdog. He's a rich kid, given a free ride in college, who never had to work for anything, but has some college level football skills. Everything negative going on with him has been his fault. I get the 22 year old kid argument. When I was 22, I was too busy getting high and chasing girls to waste my time working. So, I don't condemn him for his actions. However, I don't think he can be serious and commit to the NFL, to become a decent qb. He definitely has some talent, but not on the same level with RG3, who was completely committed and where is he? When they drafted him I was excited, like a lot of fans, but everything that has happened since then has supported what some said then. He's not NFL caliber, and probably never will be. Hopefully, he will straighten his life out, and at least get clean. I would love to read about him going to another team....maybe even the CFL, Arena league, or anything, and being a star. I don't want to read about him overdosing, or ruining his life at his age.

That new coach has all but stated that Manziel will be gone because that new coach has stated that high character will be a prerequisite to being a Cleveland Brown. Some reports say he privately stated he prefers to move on from Manziel and his history of QBs shows he prefers pocket passers.

You know who else sat on the bench for not two, but THREE years before starting? Aaron Rodgers. Did he have a mental breakdown? Did he run off to Vegas before the last game of the season? Nope.

Stop making excuses for the guy. He is a weak-minded kid who deals with adversity in the most destructive ways possible- both destructive to himself and his team.

Bad teammate? Not really. Rg3 is a bad team mate.

Any hasn't played enough games with a decent team to know whether he sucks or not.

As for Aaron Rodgers he wasn't sitting behind Josh McCown and Austin Davis. I won't defend him for burning his rookie season. But I will defend against bullshit.

Do you want a teammate who gets handed the starting job toward the end of his rookie season and doesn't know the playbook?

Do you want a Teammate who skips a treatment while the rest of you are showing up for work?

Do you want a teammate (quarterback) who doesn't show up at the facility when he doesn't have to?

Do you want a teammate that that the coach can't trust? That lies to him and creates cover ups?

Do you want a teammate (starting quarterback) that flies to Vegas and parties, and doesn't show up back in town while you are out on the field busting your ass against a divisional rival?

WSS, being in the music industry, I'm sure you came across a guy that was a pretty talented and unique musician ... but really needed a lot of work to be top rate. But you couldn't count on him ... wouldn't show up, never practiced at his craft ... loved to play on Saturday Nights but just wasn't reliable. Was he a good bandmate?

And what if this said bandmate was picked to be the leader ... how do you think the rest of the guys would feel about that?

Well if that little insult was aimed me tex, well...[ insert vulgar remark here]

I just figure that we might possibly have a good quarterback in the house. I also figure that we've shitcanned enough of them in a very short period of time and that has been the main factor and making us the worst organization in professional football. Also that a lot of these fans are fickle little bitches.

And like I said before it doesn't matter much because I think Johnny's pissed off enough people that I'd be surprised to see him back here.

And again in a couple years windows saying bitches are gathered in front of the stadium with torches and pitchforks calling for the head of the quarterback and coach I will still probably be preaching continuity.

  • Well Z, you have no idea how many times I've been in that situation in the band days. Not only in the role of the lead singer who used to drink way too much to the band leader where I had to put up with talented guys who sometimes piss me off.

I had a great guitar player whose style and mine didn't work very well and we had a hostile relationship. In time we set our egos aside long enough that I could appreciate what he added and he could appreciate what I've written.

I had another guitar player, again really good but kind of it hot dog. Rather than make him shut it down I realized that the crowd kind of liked it when he'd go nuts.

I had a world-class trumpet player who was a falling down drunk. We wouldn't have parted ways but for the fact that he was unable to play by the end of the show.

I've had guys that showed up late, drunk, stoned, I'm prepared or not at all for rehearsal.

As long as they showed progress on Saturday night I bit the bullet. So I'd lean toward keeping the talented guy and trying to work it out firing him and giving the solos to somebody not nearly as good.

Anyway not that any of that is exactly to the point and I'll read the first three quarters of your post and respond soon enough but one point from the top:

Since we have no idea which rumors are true and which are bullshit let's say he showed up Wednesday before the game drunk, or somebody in the room believed he was. They pretended it was a concussion and said he couldn't play.

So if it's me, & I feel I'm being persecuted in that way, then why the fuck not go to Vegas? And why not blow off the faux doctor's appointment.

(of course I have no way of knowing that any of that happened but still... We do love to believe rumors, just like total fucking bullshit. 🙂
