Welfare

Work requirements for welfare for all able bodied is what I would recommend. If someone is working for their welfare I for one do not begrudge them a bit as they are working for it. I am opposed to the handouts for free.
I knew a person on welfare who worked 40 hours a week doing community service at a local food bank. Everyday he walked from one end of town to the other end of town to go to work. Working for welfare is how it should always be done. Let's start something new called "workfare" and end the free handouts for EBT cards and the like and have those receiving these benefits work for them if they are able bodied. Then they will have earned those benefits like the taxpayers who are working to pay for the programs.

I guess I tend to agree with old Browns fan here. Morally I have no beef with helping out folks that need help. On the other hand I think they should appreciate the help and want to pay that forward sometime. That's how it should be but after generations of welfare the recipients tend to resent their benefactors.
I think it's a little ironic that the people who become angry if some groups are treated as second-class citizens also believe they should be taken care of like they were pets because they don't know any better.
One of Michael Moores manifestos used the example of a welfare mother in Detroit who was asked to work part time at Dick Clark America Bandstand grill. While at work her kid took a gun from her dirtbal relatives drawer and shot somebody while the relative was passed out in the sack.
Guess who Mr Moore blamed for this tragedy?

I don't know why no one ever thinks of incentive-driven voluntary sterilization as a positive thing. Except me of course.

Actually, I like the idea myself.
I think we're all on the same page. Hard times befall on certain people, no shame in helping them. It's the generational abusers that bother everyone and it needs to be stopped.

I'd say a 25,000 tax free incentive to be sterilized would be amazingly effective at keeping the spawn of current welfare abusers off the government dole in the future.

Work requirements for able bodied people to receive welfare benefits are very much in line with Christianity and teachings of the bible. The Apostle Paul had this to say about it:
2 Thessalonians 3The Message (MSG)6-9 Our orders—backed up by the Master, Jesus—are to refuse to have anything to do with those among you who are lazy and refuse to work the way we taught you. Don’t permit them to freeload on the rest. We showed you how to pull your weight when we were with you, so get on with it. We didn’t sit around on our hands expecting others to take care of us. In fact, we worked our fingers to the bone, up half the night moonlighting so you wouldn’t be burdened with taking care of us. And it wasn’t because we didn’t have a right to your support; we did. We simply wanted to provide an example of diligence, hoping it would prove contagious.
10-13 Don’t you remember the rule we had when we lived with you? “If you don’t work, you don’t eat.” And now we’re getting reports that a bunch of lazy good-for-nothings are taking advantage of you. This must not be tolerated. We command them to get to work immediately—no excuses, no arguments—and earn their own keep. Friends, don’t slack off in doing your duty.

On some things sure but on this issue of whether or not able bodied people should be allowed to be lazy and not work and expect working people to support them there is no verse in the bible to support it. On a host of other issues one could probably cherry pick some scriptures to make an argument which is why isolated scriptures need to be put into context.

It's not a Michael Moore documentary It is the Bible.

Where is the bible verse that addresses unemployment? So if you are able bodied but unable to find work because there isn't work is there a Corinthians passage regarding that?

The person I talked about who was working for his welfare assistance at a food bank was unemployed.

Unfortunately for the person you talked about unless they are a single parent with a child under 5, volunteering doesn't meet the job search criteria for being a food stamp recipient.
30 million out of work or severely unemployed
He didn't volunteer it was a requirement for him to work at the Community Action Center to get welfare assistance.

Then Jbluhm86 I would remind you that your morals are nothing more than a figment of your own imagination no different than an atheist view of religion.
And that you could no better defend your set of morals against reality and human nature than a man of faith can defend his belief in God's will.

How do you see them as a "figure of the imagination" as opposed to having genetic and social reasons?
It's pretty hard to find something that makes sense with the same level of support as "God's will"... Which is none
-
Simply because you can make up your own morals. Doesn't matter if I agree or if anyone else agrees.
Lets say you are married and have the opportunity to sleep with a hot chick and never get caught.
(I'm sure there are dozens of similar examples)
Whatever you decide to do is your decision a moral one?
I don't think you can give me a scientific answer for either decision that I'm going to buy any more than the Bible.

I know this whole 'morals make no more sense than the bible' thing is your pet at the moment, but I maintain you're wrong, for the reasons discussed before (objective/subjective morality).

If it's not objective, it isn't real. You are just angry because you want your opinion of morality to be true.
If right and wrong is different in every situation depending on your whim then right and wrong doesn't actually exist.
No matter how much you wish or believe. No matter how much faith you have in your own judgement.
