  • Like Will Smith's mom on Fresh Prince of Bel Air asked, (Pharapharsing ) what have they done for the black community and black films? I mean they have made enough money in Hollywood they should have a bigger influence.

I think this kind of protest has done more to harm the "community" than anything Jim Crow or the klan or the Academy could ever accomplish.

Totally agree. It's about giving back and being supportive rather than racial overtones we are trying to smash.

But however there was no really good black movies last year to my knowledge, even Ride Along 2 sucked.

Oh ya forgot about that one.
  • Same question I'd ask Will Smith. Which movie or actor should have been replaced by black actor or film?

I haven't seen them all maybe some of you guys have seen some I have not

  • I don't think the academy awards are racist.

You aren't entitled to it because you're black, you gotta be good no matter what your race is.

There's been tons of black academy award winners. It's sad how much racial tensions seem to be growing everywhere.

The only movie I can think of that might have been included would be straight outta compton, but then, that's not really oscar material is it? Also, I think they overestimate the importance of NWA. Hip hop existed well before them. They weren't exactly ground-breaking.

Saying that you need to include mediocre movies into the oscar talks because they happened to star or be written by or directed by black people is rather demeaning isn't it? Black people still don't seem to get that Affirmitive action (because that's what this would be) is harmful to them. It propagates the notion that mediocrity is exceptional for black people. Black mediocrity isn't exceptional. Black Exceptionalism is exceptional.

  • In all honesty, one of my biggest fears is that most Americans will be caught with their pants down, by being totally engrossed by bullshit like this, when the Islamist start blowing themselves up on our soil. Doesn't the free world have bigger fish to fry without everyone losing their shit over some Hollywood awards show? People need to get their priorities straight.

I think of it this way. We really don't have much to worry about and life is amazingly good here in America. Our citizens living in what we call poverty receive benefits that would be luxurious to the real poor people of the world.

Do you think anybody Somalia gives a ship about the Academy Awards?

    So we obsess over minutiae.

Agreed. Which is why it disappoints and worries me that our citizens seem to be more focused on what's going on with the Kardashians, DWTS, Duck Dynasty, and whether or not the Oscars are racist (they're not, btw), while they fail to give the same amount of attention to things that really do matter, such as the Islamist threat to the world.

Do you think anybody Somalia gives a ship about the Academy Awards?

I don't know if this was an accidental typo or a sly reference to Somali piracy, but if it's the latter, bravo sir.

  • I think a lot of black people really don't give a fuck. Only affluent Hollywood blacks like Jada Pinkett think black people are being purposefully snubbed. What they're not acknowledging is how many white actors get snubbed every year. The Oscars are stupid anyway, who cares? Next black person that gets nomm'd should do a no show then. If people like your work and pay to go see your movie, why do you care about a stupid little gold statue handed out by insufferable rich white people who live in a fantasy world anyway.

  • No gay actor has ever won an oscar, fwiw. Think about that for a moment. Meanwhile, straight actors playing gay men have won oscars.

Or none that we know of. They probably lead the pack in Tony Awards

    😉

But yes ship was a typo, speech to text fucks me up on a regular basis.
