Senior Bowl Week

The Browns Board

  • Obviously for me all eyes are on Wentz, he has a lot to prove against the best competition he's faced. Also, a lot of above average Ohio State prospects have a chance to impress (Braxton, Washington, Powell, Perry (whom I like a lot), and vannett) all will be out there. Obviously carrying some bias there watching OSU play a lot but all of those guys could bring some good potential to the Browns in the middle rounds.

  • I don't have any time to watch it at all, I'm sure it's a huge week for Wentz - he could either solidify the top 15 grade or fall back to the 2nd round. I'll just come back later and see who sucked and who stood out though.

The thing with QBs is the competition isn't as big a deal as it might be with other positions. Their receivers are a notch less as are their linemen, so to me it balances out...all being equal so to speak. If they show they can make the throws and the reads, that is all one needs to see.

I will agree, that may not hold with other position players. As an example, a LT who shines at that level may indeed have a steep learning curve when matched up against players who played at a higher level.

Never thought of it that way but it's a good argument. I will say, against inferior coverages, a QB will need to be less accurate, against lesser players that are less able to grasp a complex scheme of disguises, a QB will not need to be able to dissect a defense pre-snap as much. Things like that, that are naturally easier at a lower level of competition - the speed of the game is a tick slower, they maybe have more time to process etc.

  • Completely different practice schedule from that originally in OP. This one jives with the DTV channel guide for ESPNU. I've updated the OP as well.

    Tuesday, January 26

    1:15pm-3:00pm South

    3:15pm-5:00pm North

    Wednesday, January 27

Reese's Senior Bowl officials have changed Wednesday's practice schedule due to expected bad weather in the Mobile area.

    North noon-2 p.m.

    South 2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.

    Thursday, January 28

    9:30am-11:30am North

    1:30pm-3:30pm South

  • Note says that Ragland will be practicing at OLB...

Why would the top ILB in the draft practice at OLB?

He could believe that looking good outside as well would create a larger market for his services. Shot in the dark.

  • Which staff is coaching his defense? If they're running a 4-3 it makes some sense to try him there.

    Looks like Jags

It's also important to remember that Wentz was only recruited at that level because he only had one year of QB experience in HS - just like Big Ben. He was a WR, S convert in his senior year.

So 4-3... seems wrong to ask a player to move in a showcase game... but the week is more about the practices than the game.

  • Any decent write-ups for day one of practices anywhere?

  • For some reason Michigan's center (Glasgow) is on the South team. He's a former walk on that showed a ton of improvement. Based on his performance during Shrine Game practices he was invited to the Senior Bowl (probably why he's on the South team). If we loose Mack in FA, and we're short on depth going into the draft, he could be a good pick up late in the draft.

  • I'm assuming the South team wins this thing every year? πŸ˜›

*waits for shit talking thread if North wins*

  • *prepares obligatory "no one cares about this game" post in case it happens*

War might be talked into side bets on this but beware, he pays off in Confederate money. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜
