The issue is he has an Opt-out in his contract.

Yeah- and he's in the top 5 in salary already, with the most guaranteed. http://overthecap.com/position/center/

If he takes off, he's not going to get a significantly better deal. It would be to play for a team with SB aspirations, and how many of those are going to be willing to pay a center $9 million + a year, & have the cap room to do so?

Right, exactly. If he's about the money (which I don't blame players for at all), he'll stay in Cleveland. If he really wants to chase a ring, a team like NE would make a lot of sense but he'd be taking a pay cut all but likely.

  • From what I've heard the guy only thinks about football as the means to an end. As soon as the off season rolls around he is in South America doing whatever millionaires do in South America. He's never seems like the face of the team guy like Joe Thomas.

I've never perceived him to be hostile to Cleveland just not really committed.

  • I don't think he's about chasing a Super Bowl, because he signed with Jax last time.

But I don't think he feels much attached to Cleveland, I think he'll opt out.

I think new admin, Hue, and JT buying into Hue helps ... But I think he agent constructed that last contract for a reason .. in that if the browns matched it, he would only have to spend to years there before opting out and being totally unrestricted.

That last contract was basically a two-year franchise tag, at below the going rate. So that was nice. But we did succession planning with Erving. Mack's as good as gone.

It'll be a nice story if Cam becomes a top Center after his disastrous rookie year. Kinga like Barny replacing the other Cam and actually improving the position for less money.

There's an article out there about most penalized guys at their position in our division ... and Cam led at RG and Johnny at QB even though they started a few games apiece. Sigh.

Cam has the talent though. He needs to get lower on these big guys and he can do that at Center.

What DO millionaires do in South America?

Coke. Obviously. But Mack's more about spreading the game, IIRC.

  • I'd be at Morrocoy National Seacoast Park in Venezuela.

    Huh?

Cam has an off-season to get stronger... that's the good news. The bad news is we seem destined to move to more of a power running game.

I really see us adding a road grader or two on Days 2/3 and UDFA. Great interior OL are AWOL this draft, but there is some good Day 2 value including some real maulers, plus a handful of Day 3 sleepers emerging.

Pick up a couple interior guys and see who among Cam, Bito and Greco can fill in at RT and maximize our OL.

Another piece of guaranteed reporting from Shat Sports.

I think they broke the Urban Meyer coming to the Cleveland Browns story.

  • It's a safe bet for them.

I think Mack has wanted out for some time now. He may be looking at less money elsewhere, but I don't think that'll phase him.

    "Multiple media sources"...

TV... radio... print... twitter... smoke signals... yodeling...

  • That report looks a little more optimistic than we have heard the past year. Guess he really did not like how things were going during Pet's & Farmer's time.

  • He's gone.. so be it.,

  • Who cares. Just fucking choose one way or the other, dude. I'm tired of reading about Mack and his apparent lack of desire to be in Cleveland.

Good point. Somebody else can pay for his diminishing skills.

    WSS

  • I am no big fan like I am for Joe Thomas but he is skilled and I would really like to see the Browns stop letting all our skill players go to other teams. Look at the Broncos and how many past Browns are on their team (many starting).
