Id say one decent year....and, as I already said, there's a big big difference between a 7th and a 1st....

There are exceptions to every rule and there have been assholes and drug addicts who played well in the league....but they are rare and not the norm and, historically, fail way more than they succeed....so I stand by the statement that they are bad risks.....and cant believe anyone would even try to make the argument that they are a good risk.....

I just listed 8 high Cleveland Browns picks that were shit and had big red flags....cant think of one that had all those flags and served us well.....not one....so I dont like the odds....

Chip Banks?.....Technically, not picked during those remaining years(1981)...Tho I guess we could call him low character....my memory has him as a primma donna ass wipe, but a decent player....am I forgetting something???....maybe he didnt seem so bad because of the picks all around him....Rogers, Brown, White....

Ahhh yes....I remember now....though Im thinking all that coke stuff came up after he left Cleveland.....I just remember he was all-pro every year he was here, yet somehow, we still didnt like him that much.....

  • Well.....none of them were first round picks....(or even close, ftm)

Im not aware of any character or drug issues with Duke, Winn or Benji.....plus Winn was a 6th....Crow was udfa....

So...hey, Ill take a waiver on a guy in the 6th....7th...udfa....ala Armonty.....but we can see were that got us....

Well, who can forget our 5th round pick Jeremiah Pharms, who never made it to camp- decided to rob a drug dealer.

a little OT, but Livvy has his list of our top 10 busts. Gilbert and Johnny may eventually crack it. πŸ™‚

Be interesting to see if Gordon can work his way off that list...

  • well that's that...what that means for the fans is that in all likelihood we're going to have to watch the exact same personnel on defense from last year. At least with Armonty on the team we could have said cya to Kruger at the least and possibly Mingo. Don't know what Solomans situation is but currently it looks like our OLB"ers are Kruger, Soloman, Mingo and Orchard. Not comfortable with either of our Jacks and one of our will's. Orchard can be either the Jack or will. If we were going to a 4-3 I might be ok with keeping Soloman and Kruger as DE depth. I think Kruger could be a serviceable 4-3 DE. But his career will come to a quick end if he's still a 3-4 olb'er next year. His only hope for making something out of his NFL career is get back up into the 280's and play with his hands down. No 3-4 team will take him as a starter. If we cut him he'd probably not be on anyone's roster at the beginning of the year but if he kept in shape he might get a call from some team that's desperate cause of an injury.

same defense as you say, same cellar dweller team......

  • I decided to take a look back and remember some of our "great character" high draft picks....just for yucks.....and for those that say who cares, as long as they're good.....lets remember together shall we?

1980....my senior year in HS and the year of the Kardiac Kids....we were into it, BIG TIME!.....and we had just drafted the heisman trophy winner Charles White, a flashy RB from USC....who turned out to be a coke addict and bust for the Cleveland Browns....but, hey, at least he was responsible for the creation of the Inner Circle, which counseled NFL addicts....bust numero uno.....

1983....fresh off the disappointment of our Heisman bust(and actually still living it, ala Johnny) we tapped a lightening fast star WR by the name of Ron Brown...except the dude has character issues....and, after declaring and letting us pick him, he opted to go to the Olympics instead and threatened to re-enter the draft the next year.....we traded his rights and never saw a single catch....

1984....this draft was a GREAT one and our first 2 picks were both hard hitting Safeties...we already had Dixon and had just signed Minnifield, so these guys would give us the best backfield in the league....Our first pick was Don Rogers, a total bad ass who stepped right in and played amazing....looked like another Ronny Lott or Kenny Easley in the making....the Browns had scored big time with this guy!!! Except...he got married at the end of his second season and decided doing coke at his wedding was a good idea....and his heart stopped.....dead.... Making him the second player in just 4 years that busted due to Coke....

The Browns must have learned their lesson, because we didnt draft another addict or bad character guy during the remaining years......Now.....fast forward to the NEW Browns......and the excitement of building a new team.....following our 2 #1 overall picks of Tim Couch and Courtney Brown.....

2001....I remember this draft well, as I was in London and searching for a way to watch or hear about the draft...no real internet at the time, so I had to wait....and we pick Gerard Warren...wtf?....but, he was a lazy fat f*ck and, almost immediately, got busted for dope...it was clear we had done it again....pick a low character, non athletic, lazy, pot head....he never did shit and was gone in 4...

2002...thats right, the NEXT year, we picked a running back by the name of William Green.....this guy flashed some, but man, the Browns blew it sooooooooooooo bad, it's not even funny....First of all, the guy had Crohns Disease. And it would flare up when he was excited...like on game day?....I remember him being too sick to play and watching him puke on the sideline, before running in to carry the ball....but wait! there's more!....didnt take too long for him to get busted for dui and pot. He was SO wasted that he had lost his shoes and didnt know where they were.....but wait! there's more!!....next thing you know, he's in the news for being wasted and fighting with his girlfriend, who actually stabbed him!!!....hahaha....sound almost familiar??....he was gone too......

2004....Just 2 years later, thats right, we're talking 3 out of 4 years.....plus the fact that Couch & Brown were looking pretty bad by now....I remember this draft well, because Ohio U QB Ben Rothlesberger was there and creating a stir and it looked like we needed one. But instead, we picked the big mouthed cock sucker Kellen Winslow, fresh of his outrageous comments about being a soldier, yada yada yada. So, what does he do? Apparently, he does tricks and wheelies on his motor cycle....except not well....so, in the end, we get a loud mouth asshole who's hurt the whole time, then leaves...character character character....

Now.....we did go a few years before....

2012....Where we tapped star WR Josh Gordon in the supplemental draft....why was he there, you ask?.....oh, just because he had been busted 3 or 4 times in college for drugs AND thrown off both his teams.....thats all. But HEY....he'll straighten out now that he's in the Pros.....and he was a bargain with the 33rd pick.....ha....fast forward 4 freaking years, and yeah, we got 1 good season....yay!

    2014....sigh....by now Im too tired.....so two words.....Manziel & Gilbert......nuff said....

So....for anyone who's too young to remember or has forgotten.....^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^^^^^^ is why we react the way we do to Johnny and his "minor little indiscretions" or JG "just smokin a lil weed" or say we dont like low character guys.....

    Thats all....out!

man, what bad memories...no wonder we never got to the sb....then and now....

  • Well, now all you motherfuckers need to join Camp Bosa.....because the need for a guy like him just became more acute, obviously.

Bryant listed as backup to Nate Orchard at OLB. Whatever, OLB/DE we need to replace his pass rush ability.
