Why did we need a qb to mentor. We have Hue and we have qb coaches. This fantasy you guys have of anew old qb as a teacher is just a wasted roster spot. McCown has done nothing in his career. Good career back up.

    and RG3 has done more?

    GTFO.

Actually yes. He has done more. Rookie of the year and for the most part better numbers. I'm not a fan of rg3 but it makes sense to bring him in. Even if it is for one season. Yes he's injury prone. But so is McCown. He sat out how many games last year? We don't pick up rg3 to mentor. Why is a career backup mentoring a rookie such a great idea to you? Serious question.

I know people might laugh at this, but I think the BRONCOS should trade for McCown. That defense is so amazing that I believe a player like McCown will be able to win more games than he loses. Imagine McCown playing for a team that doesn't let the opposition score more than a few points. He'd also have some weapons to throw to. I think it's worth a look if I'm Elway.

I agree. They need to draft a qb. Maybe if Lynch is there at 31. Doubt it but that's what I would shoot for if I was Elway.

I saw reports that the broncs have already been sniffing about Mccown. As well as the Jets. My only real question is, Why do some think that Mcown is such a great QB coach when we have Hue? We hired him for his qb knowledge and people want a lifetime losing qb to teach a rookie? wow!

What we already know is that the front office doesn't care about Josh McCown.

I believe he can be a solid player in the right situation but moreover a great mentor given his many years of experience in different situations in the National Football League.

I don't see Colin Kaepernick or RG3 as a mentor to anyone given their short period of success and subsequent role as team cancer and failure. (the reason I hate Terrelle Pryor less than those two is the fact that he was an Ohio State Buckeye albeit a bust)

And again don't be surprised if there will be no first round quarterback to mentor.

Hoorta might talk about Jay Gruden but I don't see any effort on his part to grab RG3.

Well, you make a fair point. But McCown hasn't exactly played with stellar teams, and the one time he did have good talent, he provided exceptional results (Chicago). If I was the GM of the Broncos, I'd seriously consider it. A great locker room guy with a live arm that will play with the best defense in the league? It's not the best fit in the world, but I've seen worse. Maybe we get another pick for McCown? Wouldn't that be worth it? We need picks, and if we sign RG III, we'll have enough QB's on the roster. (assuming we draft one).

I think the jets are looking for a backup and Josh fits that bill.

I don't think any steller teams really wanted him very badly. I do remember the run he had in Chicago. Flynn had 1 good game and look at the money he made. I like Josh and have lots of respect for him. The pragmatic side of me sees him going for the best draft picks they can get. And to be honest, I feel better about 2 unknown QBs going into this season than I did seeing that we were gonna start Mcown and back him up with a habit.

He hasn't but no one seems to be pressing to have RG3 mentor a young QB. The argument is that McCown can coach a young kid into being a good QB when he himself has never been one.

Theres absolutely things mccown can teach a new kid. Just cause he wasnt named manning doesnt mean he hasnt seen a ton of shit on the field

  • I've heard it said that the vet qb will not be a mentor. He will play and the kid will be coached up...by a coach. They do not want a coaching qb. Mcown is gonna be 37 and injury prone. Plus he was a Farmer pick. Hue aint big on him and will trade him. Denver and Jets were both mentioned. None of Farmer's qb picks are worth a shit and Hue knows it. Josh is a nice guy and played hard for us but he's used up and never quite had "it" to be a winner. And keeping Davis and Shaw? I very highly doubt it.

I have never heard any report that Hue is not big on McCown. Perhaps he is not big on him as our starter....neither am I. But, again, as a "veteran backup" I have never heard Hue say any such thing. Get us the quotes on that.

But, again, as a veteran backup....he would not be the "It Girl" we would be turning to...He would simply be the understudy... sort of.

  • Mccown could teach a young qb tons of stuff, and set an outstanding

example. And, I'd want him to stay on board with the Browns as an

    assistant qb coach.

RGIII, I'd be happy if we don't sign him. He isn't a mentor, apparently not

a leader in the locker room,

What's strange, is that the Jets talked to RGIII, and did NOT sign him.

And.......they want Mccown. Perhaps the Jets are better at analytics?

One thing McCown can teach a younger player is how to be a pro. I have heard this from innumerable people from all sports. Yes, it is the coaches job to coach....but nearly all young talent needs their Crash Davis.

In one of the interviews either Sushi or Hue was asked about the future of Josh McCown and answered with a shrug we'll see.

i don't think anyone here is touting mccown as a qb coach for a rookie QB. last year the FO brought him in as a bridge QB to let manziel sit and learn behind him. does that mean mccown was actually teaching him techniques and fixing his pocket presence or throwing motion? hell no. sure he might be on the bench next to the kid explaining what happened on the play he got swallowed up by the opposing defense or hey i shoulda done this or i shoulda done that..... but these guys aren't QB coaches. they have QB coaches that answer to the OC who answers to the HC. last thing a QB needs is another responsibility. i think the previous FO thought maybe mccown's squeeky clean persona would rub off somehow on manziel and all would be peaches and cream........HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

i'm not ringing the bell for mccown being some great QB but i do believe he knows a lot more than RG3 when it comes to the football field and if the 2 are equally injury prone who'd you rather have, a guy that has seen every defense known to the NFL for 2 decades or a guy that really doesn't care?

what i've seen of RG3 lately is someone who just doesn't give a fuck.

What I have seen of him lately is a guy that was told that his coach didn't like him and wasn't going to play him....and a guy that said "OK, I will keep my mouth shut and just wait until I can get out of here and go somewhere that a coach thinks I can play" As far as I am concerned, he acted professionally in that regard. (unlike some other recent vintage QB we know about). And now he may have found that guy in Hue Jackson.

By the way....note for Zombo: How about we treat "he whose name shall not be mentioned" like Voldemort. Any time his name comes up...be it his actual name or like JFF or some such.....autocorrect it to Voldemort...or something you prefer.

I mean, if you can do it with the word Retard, you can do it with him, no?

McCown was brought in to be a lifestyle coach for lil' Johnny. While the failure of this effort was not on McC, it is a position that is no longer required.

The only advantage McC holds over RG3 as the vet choice is that with McC there is no concern of an ego outbreak fueling tension at the position.

This... Pep and Hue have no interest in a 3rd voice in their protégée's ear.

i think they don't want this to be a wasted year. whatever the reasoning they have for making this move it's not thinking that RG3 is going to be the savior of the browns (at least i hope they don't.....cuz then they're dumb as bricks) it's more on the lines of youth vs. age and probably money somewhere mixed in.

this goes to show me that hue wants the rookie QB we pick at 2 to sit for a while and get up to speed with the game before throwing him into the ring.

either way the life expectancy of either of these guys is a 1/2 season so..........

I truly think the year will only be a waste if the rook does not start on day 1.. He's going to suck sometime, we know that. So get it out of the way while the rest of the team sucks with him.

You know, like Jacksonville. Where Sashi used to work.
