Locked The Browns Board

  • Low risk, not much spent, big upside. Great signing. They look brilliant if it works out and if it doesn't they didn't lose much. I prefer this to wasting an early 1st rounder on those two QBs in the draft.

if the FO doesn't select one 'of those two QBs in the draft' at #2 then i'll no longer believe in hue, sashi or whatever bullshit they're trying to sell, period. it will show me that they don't know wtf they're doing.

  • This 2-year deal for @RGIII can be worth up to $22M. Which underscores what we knew: Josh McCown will be playing for another team in 2016

  • $11 mil per year if he reaches incentives. People are calling this is a "size-able investment"

  • well it ain't $2 or 3 million.

    ugh.

  • The Browns never fail to entertain.

  • In all seriousness, to me going with the rebound dude RG3 was 100x a stronger choice IMO than Kaep. I'm not leaping for joy but hey it's the most promising thing we've had in a while.

I would still be completely fine drafting a QB at 2 as well at this point.

The plus is no draft picks given up. I'm all in on taking Goff or Wentz @ #2. (backup plan if Griffin flames out)

Mike, if he makes his incentives- it means the Browns are winning. I doubt he can do much worse than McCown's (not so) stellar 1-7 W-L last year. 🙂

  • My BR team stream app listed the deal at 15m over 2 years with 6.75 guaranteed.

If this is true, the simple breakdown of that is 1 year, 6.75 million show me deal that can be worth more if he plays at a high level.

    I'm fine with that.

That's pretty cheap for a QB. Plus, it's not like it's going to completely muck up our cap situation.

  • I am not a fan of this signing. First, if we are searching for a franchise guy and building via the draft, then I want someone like McCown to teach him the right way to prepare etc. Somehow, I don't think RG3 is going to do that or even if he knows how to do that himself. Second, McCown was solid last year, QB play was further down on the list of issues during game day. Third, this is a bit of an overpay, its not horribly bad, but I think it signals that McCown is probably gonna be traded which I think is a bad idea. If RG3 can get things turned around this would be great but given past performances of Browns signings etc, I am not holding my breath. I would have rather spent that 15 million on keeping Benjamin or Schwartz.

That is less than they paid for Bowe.
  • Reporter: "So, RGIII, you signed with the Browns. With their o-line being gutted in free agency, and with no playmakers of which to speak of, what do you expect from this upcoming season"?

  • I just watched Carson Wentz pro day. Wentz looked real good. A+ good. Hue Jackson was right there with Pep Hamilton. I believe their going to draft Wentz to bring along with RG3. A 2 year deal with RG3 tells me they'll be a competition, they can bring Wentz along slowly and develop him the right way, for once.

That would be until Griffin gets hurt. Which might be sooner rather than later. Griffin has a Sam Bradford body.

  • 3.25m guaranteed this year. 2 year 15m total.

  • Im not sure now they take a qb at 2. I think they wait till the 2nd or 3rd. Jackson at wentzs pro day is classic draft room smoke and mirrors to hide who we're really looking at. Its tunsil or bosa im callin it now. Whoever the titans pick first wevtake the other guy. If the browns were thinkin of trading down they'd already be talking about it. So they're staying at 2 and it aint for no qb

Even with McCown in there, the rookie was very luckily to get thrown in after injury. I expect the rookie to get 3-4 games before they are tossed into the fire.

  • Good signing.

Does not cost us a draft pick. Just money we are going to spend anyway.

He was talented enough to go #2 overall, if he has learned some things and has his head on straight, I think Hue can do some terrific things with him.

If not ... Oh well, we took a shot.

I am guessing they looked at him in the eye and saw fire.

He's from a strong military family. He may just be maturing.

As a Realtor, there are times where you want to be the "second Realtor" on a listing, because it takes time for the Seller to come to their senses. I think RG3 is a player where you want be the second team.

I agree, Zombo. Contracts aren't guaranteed - not that I care what Haslam does with his money - so there is little to lose beyond some pocket change 'up front cash'

Lots of upside. No downside. Maybe will allow the team to still draft a QB at #2 or a few slots later in Round 1.
