    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/03/29/browns-barkevious-mingo-has-gained-20-pounds-this-offseason/

Many people saying it for quite some time...Mingo is too small to consistently get to the QB. Anybody think this could be positive?

Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton said last month that he plans to change the way the team uses Barkevious Mingo. Part of that change involves Mingo bulking up.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Mingo has already gained 20 pounds this offseason, getting to 260 pounds after playing last season at 240.

The 6-foot-4 Mingo has always been scrawny by NFL linebacker standards, and putting some more meat on his bones may help him take on blockers and play more effectively against the run.

Mingo was the sixth overall pick in the 2013 draft and showed some promise as a rookie, recording five sacks. But he had just two sacks in 2014 and none in 2015. Last year Mingo was primarily a special teams player, getting a team-high 368 plays on special teams and only 256 on defense. The Browns have to hope that as Mingo gets bigger, he also makes a bigger contribution to their defense.

yeah we needed to keep that one under wraps cause chances are he took some stuff. I'm not sure I like him at 260 anyway. His strength is coverage. His pass rushing skills are best suited to blitzing, hitting the line with momentum. Trying to turn him into a guy that starts out at the line is a square peg round hole stuff. I can see 250 maybe while still retaining his speed and athleticism. Chances are at 260 he'll have lost a significant amount of his natural ability just for the sake of doing something he shouldn't be doing in the 1st place. He should be used as the weakside cover LB'er with the 5 tech shifted over to his side. OR...as I"ve been saying for awhile now...we should just have two DE's down in a 4-3 and have him as the 4-3 OLB'er. That way he can stay in the 240's and still be as fast and athletic as a Kam Chancelor.

Exactly what Steve just said. A bigger, stronger Mingo would be scary. It'll be cool to see

                the difference on the field.

as long as he keeps his explosiveness and ability to cover downfield. If Hortons plan is to convert him to a hybrid type we're in for a long grind till this next coaching staff is gone. If adding 20lbs in a few months and keeping your speed and explosiveness was easy....everyone would be doing it. It sounds like one of those well if you don't do this we dont' see a spot for you on the roster anywhere kind of situations. Which probably means it isn't going to end well.

I have thought that Mingo was misused the past two years. Here is hoping that Horton hears a who and turns Mingo into a guy whose Bite is as big as his Bark. 😆

(Do you think it interesting that a team that has a dog for a mascot has one player named Bark (evious)...and another name Bite (onio)

After watching Bruce Drennan show for years, it sounds like he can't put the weight on and keep it. So I would keep an eye on him through the season and see if he maintains it.

Pettine tried to have him bulk up, and he did, but he couldn't maintain it. I'll believe it when I see it on Sundays

                              http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2014/02/cleveland_browns_mike_pettine_3.html

"He has freakish ability. I think putting on weight, it’s one of the easiest things to do. It’s harder to get more explosive, it’s harder to get more athletic. But adding muscle mass, that’s one of the easier things to do when you approach it the right way. We’re looking forward to getting him back on campus and attacking that head on.''

Add Mingo to the list of Pettine's utter failures

Caloric intake would have to be through the roof.

Also, being that he's a few years older the weight might come (and stay on) a bit easier now.

At 260, he might as well play a Weakside end spot or SLB.

any of us could gain 20 lbs in 2 months. shit i fluctuate 10-15 from summer to winter and back every year. i also know guys that drink beer ferociously and when they quit to cleanse out they drop 10 lbs like it's nothing.

he was probably doing a lot of cardio to stay at a certain weight and if horton told him the opt weight they were looking for was 20 lbs heavier and to maintain that weight then you gain the weight and start training at that level.

                                        what's the big fucking deal?

                                        haters.

any of us could gain 20 lbs in 2 months. shit i fluctuate 10-15 from summer to winter and back every year. i also know guys that drink beer ferociously and when they quit to cleanse out they drop 10 lbs like it's nothing.

he was probably doing a lot of cardio to stay at a certain weight and if horton told him the opt weight they were looking for was 20 lbs heavier and to maintain that weight then you gain the weight and start training at that level.

No one is hating on him. He gained 20lbs (hopefully of muscle) in 2 months after being told to put on weight and not being able to do it for years. You don't think that is remotely questionable? I don't care if he is PED'd to the gills so long as he doesn't get caught.
