Do NOT draft a QB in 2016

  • To risky, even at 15 for my taste, Steve, unless someone can make the case he is as good or better Brockweiller coming out of college.

But I agree, we need to cast the QB net at some point of the draft and sign a UFA for the PS.

You have to sift thru the sediment if you want to have a chance to find gold.

  • The thing is, we don't HAVE to take a QB this year at all. I mean, we have McCown, RG III, Davis, and Shaw. We know McCown isn't the long term answer, but what I think people forget is that RG III has tremendous physical ability, and I never bet against a man who had a giant serving of humble pie. He knows what it is to be a superstar, and now he knows what it is to lose it. Right now, he's lost it, and I hope he's our guy now. I remember several years ago wanting this guy on our team so bad I could taste it, and for months it seemed like he'd be ours. We all know that didn't work out, but fate has a funny way of working out.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if we don't draft a QB, and it wouldn't surprise me either if RG III is able to put it together with Hue Jackson for the Browns. I know...it's the Browns here, but I have a hunch.

  • If not Wentz, no qb at all, says I. Mccown threw for about 457 yards vs

    the ratbirds last season....

I'm good with three qb's I like this year.

  • Protect RG3 and he could be a great QB, if he studies the playbook. Was a damn good rookie. Just limit him to 4 carries a game, if it's WIDE open. A better prospect than any QB coming out this year.

Other than the possibility of RG3's resurrection do you see a future starting QB on our roster? I don't...

What are we going to learn about Davis or Shaw that we do not already know?

RG starts... McCown backs up... Draft one mid to late... Sign a UFA for the PS...

  • "Sign a UFA for the PS..."

Coker. Bama only had two years to develop him, one to sit out as a transfer and one to start. And if you compare the beginning of 2015 to his playoff games, you'd think they had someone else wearing his #. He's a very late bloomer who was stuck behind Winston @ FSU and is an easy risk as UFA PS player. The perfect game manager type QB with great size to find receivers over the LOS. There is a lot of potential with the right coaching and Hue is the man.

Watch a couple of his early games and then his last two Tour. I think you will see what I see.

So when RG sucks (which you obviously expect) and we're picking high again next year and everyone wants to take the next hot thing at QB (say, Watson), then we've wasted a pick this year on one (say, Prescott). We get Watson next year and every time he misses a pass people clamor for Prescott. It's just stupid. Don't take QBs just to take them.

    or in the alternative...

    We skip QBs this year.

Have to carry four on the active roster due to PS restrictions.

Watson goes down with a knee in his bowl game that requires a complete reconstruction.

RG3 plays well enough to help us win 4 games.

We pick 5th behind SF and SD, both of whom are in the QB market...

How smart does that look? Even an Aggie should know not to count his chickens before they hatch... actually especially an Aggie...

You always have to be looking for your next QB...

Then trade up. But don't waste a pick that could be a future starter on a guy with a significantly smaller percent chance of doing so.

Your last line. You say that often, and yet teams every year choose not to draft one, know they don't have a franchise guy behind their starter, and yet generally don't worry about it.

If we're worried about 4 on the active roster then cut Shaw. Not really a critical decision there.

If "Robbie" leads this roster to 4 or 5 wins, he deserves franchise status and probably a statue. We'll be picking plenty high next year, never you worry.

  • It's a personal philosophy... but there is a corollary. If you hit gold, you can take a year off.

Point was we can all make up scenarios to fit our approach. Mine is no more valid than yours. They are, however, both possible. The optimum solution is to develop a plan that encompasses them all...

Going with the Gipper approach here, eh? 😉

  • Wouldn't it be crazy if he Browns had the first two picks in the draft next year?

More and more it looks like Sashi and Ghoolie are of one mind. Paxton Lynch is the man.

I could live with it but I would be truly shocked if that happened.
