  • To bust, you must first have something invested in you. Overhyped by fans, maybe. If he makes it through the first round of cuts hes not a bust.

  • I don't remember a 7th round pick getting this much attention, and I seriously hope that we don't have unrealistic expectations about this guy. I won't lie, there is something about this kid that has captured my imagination, and it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see him make an impact somewhere on the field.

  • Temper the immefiate expectations though pls. And font shit on the coaches if hes on st for a year or two

DING DING DING................ We have another intelligent kid in the bunch. Not many here, but he gets it. EVERY fucking jack off pick over the last 16 years has been described by optimism as DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH...................... as if the Browns have a penchant for this kind of thing? They can't even get a morther fucking starter out of their TOP picks, let alone this slow footed, pussy, toothless, popeye looking goof?

I GUARANTEE YOU............ this fucker is WAY over his level in the NFL. He went in the 7th because only the fucking Browns wanted him. If the Browns passed, this clumsy cocksucker would have been a walk on. No Talent whatsoever.

    A GHOOLIE GUARANTEED BUST

Well, honestly there is really no such thing as a 7th round Bust. 7th rounders are not really expected to make it big...and when they don't it should be no surprise. So he may have been the 14th pick of the Browns in this draft...and like #250 overall. So there should be no expectations, really, out of him. Any thing he gives the Browns in way of production has to be looked on as gravy.

I mean, did we expect Garrett Gilkey to be a star? Ifo Ekpre Olamu? Alex Hall, Syndric Steptoe, Justin Hamilton?, Jonathan Dunn?

Adimchinobe Echimandu? Jaoquin Gonzales? Andre King? Rashidi Barnes?

Browns 7th round draft picks. There should be NO expectation about this guy any more than any of these other guys had.

He would not be a bust if he didn't make it....he would just be a typical 7th round pick.

    Is that now clear?

Looks like a challenge flag to me, anybody wanna pick it up? Im not invested in scooby to give two fucks either way, but some of you seem to think he'll be a starter from day one. Well the flag is right there then...,

The only challenge is, what sub package's Horton wants to throw a unselfish 7th rounder out there? I don't think ILB is Hortons only thoughts either?

Well, that's the kind of shit I am here for.

Yup, some kind of shit indeed

OKAY, I stand corrected, when he gets cut, all you meatus mouths can jump up and down and say...... WOW....he didn't get cut until the second round of cuts............WOW...............he is going to the HOF with Joe Thomas.

    Scooby is garbage.

Maybe he is just likeable and interesting...and somewhat of an underdog really. And that is why some/many on here like him.

I personally don't know much about him. I am sure he is a good kid. Maybe it seems he is a bit fun loving and that can be infectious.

I HOPE he does great....he is after all, a Cleveland Brown. Don't you hope that too?

  • Ghoulies right about how the org works. Fill important spots with lower round talent even though we have zero history developing them. We're not the steelers that can turn some kent st walk on into one of the best olb'ers ever. Or the patriots that can turn a 6th round qb into arguably tje best ever.

Khalil mack should be on this team right now and taking over the cpt position as the mike.

You don't take a talent like Mack and relegate him to a spot like MLB exclusively. That's how you waste talent.

He's playing all over the place for the raiders which is what id let him fo here. But his base position, i would have him in the middle. Let him blitz when he wants. I would have killed for DQ to still be around for a year or two to play next to him.

Can Scooby Wright III be the dominate linebacker he was in college and boom for the Browns? Or will his lack of athletic ability cause him to bust?
With only four picks left in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL draft the Cleveland Browns came on the clock and took the best player left on the board in Phillip “Scooby” Wright III, linebacker out of the Univeristy of Arizona. Wright III had one of the best seasons a linebacker could have in 2014 posting 163 tackles, 29 tackles for a loss, 14 sacks, and six forced fumbles. The stats Wright III posted in 2014 were enough to earn him the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (awarded to the player adjudged to be the best defensively in the NCAA), Rotary Lombardi Award (best lineman or linebacker), and the Chuck Bednarik Award (College Defensive Player of the year). Wright III saw his production slip massively in 2015 as injuries started to pile up on the highly productive linebacker. First, Wright III suffered from a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee then he suffered a sprain in his right foot. Wright III returned for Arizona’s bowl game against the University of New Mexico where he picked up right where he left off, making fifteen tackles, 3.5 for a loss, and two sacks. At the combine Wright posted 22 reps on the bench and a 4.9 forty yard dash. Will Scooby continue to be a ball seeking missle in the NFL and boom? Or will his lack of athletic ability and injury history cause him to flame out and bust?
Why Wright III will Boom for the Browns:
Whatever Wright III lacks in size he makes up for with instincts and determination. Wright III was a fun player to watch in his college days, always being able to be around the ball. At times it seemed like he was in the opponents huddle with how quickly he was able to break to the ball without the slightest hesitation. A former two star recruit, Wright III has always played with a massive chip on his shoulder, which will likely carry into the NFL after falling late into the seventh round. Due to Wright III’s instincts, he is able to cover up his lack of natural athletic ability . Scooby might be the most passionate football player in this draft with all the drive and competitive fire coaches desire.
Why Wright III will Bust for the Browns:
At 6’1” Scooby is a little on the smaller size. His injury history is something to be concerned with moving forward as well. Scooby is already not the biggest guy on the field, so going up against the big boys of the NFL every week make me wonder if Scooby will be able to last for a 16 game season. The drive and passion Wright III possesses is great, but he must do a better job of playing with control. Scooby’s aggressive nature and lack of control are often the reasons he ends up on the ground. Scooby relies heavily on his instincts so when he guesses wrong he leaves his designated area wide open for running backs to run through. The main thing that can hold Wright III back is his athletic ability. Scooby is just an average athlete and if that proves to be a problem in the NFL, Wright III will be doomed to bust.
Will Wright III boom or bust?
This was my favorite pick in the entire draft. Wright III is not an athlete, he is a football player and he has always found a way to be successful. His 2014 season did not happen by accident, it happened because Wright III was the best linebacker in the country despite his athletic ability. Sure there are things he can do better in the NFL, but there are also things he does that cannot be taught. Wright III’s competitiveness and instincts outweigh his lack of athletic ability. Scooby Wright III compares to seven time pro bowler Zach Thomas in that they both had questionable size and athletic ability concerns despite being massively productive in college. I would not be shocked if Scooby splits time at middle linebacker to start the season, and eventually takes over one of the middle linebacker spots on a full time basis by seasons end. I do not think it is completely out of the question to think Scooby can be in the running for the defensive rookie of the year award. Wright III has a legitimate chance to be the steal of this entire draft. I think Wright III booms in a big way in the NFL.
  • Scooby needs a year or two more in the weightroom then i think he has a shot at starting

  • Good stuff Bone. The more Lb's on this roster the better. We only keep 53. If it's close, 8 week IR maybe best. But if he can go, Turn this Dawg loose all over the field..

A team has to have stars, playmakers, guys for the young guys to aspire to hang with and fit in with. THIS is why the Steelers and Pats aren't really affected that much by losing players. When they bring in a new guy, there are leaders there to help them assimilate. We had the #2 and #32 pick and didn't come away a top player.

This is not how you build a team.

I agree. What i hope they've done though is accumulate higher picks for themselves down the road. That's not always bad. If you think a particular draft class doesn't have the guys for you, there's nothing wrong in trading back and stockpiling for later years. That's where it gets hard for me to criticize because we're fans after all. Sure we want that one top stud but if in a particular year we can trade back so we have ammo to go after someone else in the future..than who knows. We don't know if that's what they've done. Like you know I wanted Bosa bad, but if they can't put a decent team around some of these guys the chances of retaining them "in cleveland" are slim to none. You have to build a decent base of players first and then go get elite talent to fill in the biggest needs.

But we can't "keep" passing on elite talent. But this isn't even year one yet with this new regime so we'll see. We just don't know.

  • Hey "assimilate" passes spell check. 😕 But a Mentor,Tutor is still a no-no. Right? So if we only Assimilate the world is good

  • All you have to do, is start building your team with leaders/football players/mentors/character guys

who kick ass playing the game because they love it.

Once you start that, it's easy to build on it.

Trouble is, the Browns in the past never started it.
