WAKE UP CALL: TEXAS GOV. BACK RESOLUTION AFFIRMING SOVEREIGNTY
Tue Apr 14 2009 08:44:54 ET
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”
Perry continued: "Millions of Texans are tired of Washington, DC trying to come down here to tell us how to run Texas."
A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government’s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states’ right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.
It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties, or that requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding, be prohibited or repealed.

Good point. You can see all the red ant hills along the plains on either side of the road N. of Dallas.
Very hot. Too big. Tarantulas. I don't like it.
Nice place to ride around in an air conditioned car in the daytime, though.
The metal bull sculptures in downtown Dallas are impressive.
It sucks.

Wonder if this has anything to do with Texas oil trying to get out of paying new fines and regulatory penalties for pollution?

or, you could read it and know what its about.
Amendment 10
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
cap and trade isn't on the books yet.

I agree sort of with you here Cal. But was it Obama's or each states (that took the money) plan when they each took their share of the "stimulus" money?

I believe it was the administrations, that's why some of the governor's were trying to work out deals where they only took as much as THEY wanted and wanted to spend it on what THEY wanted and for the most part it was a no go.

Some refused it all, like Ford refused it all.
Some only accepted a legit amount, with NO FED RESTRICTIONS AND INTRUSIONS.

The Government has every right to add rules to money it gives to these Companies. The greed of the rich is what is causing this problem right now. What you right wingers don't seem to comprehend is that the Republican party is for the rich. Obama while too conservative for me by a long shot is at least attempting to correct the total collapse caused by Bush Jr. Give the man a chance and lets get some real CHANGE going.

You are an idiot.
The states have every right to not accept it, too.
Learn how to THINK.
And, they have a right to pay it back.
But Heil Obama won't let them pay it back.
He wants to control industry.

so thats what happened. im sure it has nothing to do with banks lending money to those who dont deserve it.
just remember......politicians, D & R alike, are just as greedy as those you think caused this. try reading some information not obtained at the Daily Kos.

Texas isn't alone on this Eight state legislatures have introduced resolutions declaring state sovereignty under the Ninth and 10th amendments to the U.S. Constitution; they include Arizona, Hawaii, Montana, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, Oklahoma and Washington. There's speculation that they will be joined by Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Nevada, Maine and Pennsylvania
We can make that Nine with Texas
