  • Well, one report has Obama shaking hands with Chavez.

And Mendewhatshisname of Russia says he's found a new COMRADE in Obama.

Birds of a socialist feather fluck together, says I.

Nahhh... It was just a fistbump.

  • As long as they dont house ballistic missiles pointed at us.... I DONT CARE BRING ON THOSE FINE CUBAN CIGARS!!!

Honestly people need to get the idea there will always be other government systems and cultures and it is not our job to teach them something different.

    This is long overdue.

Besides one of the best ways to alter a closed socialist system is to introduce limited free enterprise IE China.

  • While I'm not at all quick to conclude that "the handshake" means that Obama is now a socialist dictator (or was one), and I always believe diplomacy is the right start to any solution, but how-in-the-fcuk is it that we so quickly forgot who & what Chavez is?

He didn't just verbally assault the former President - he has yet to mention our entire country without his own brand of vitriolic Retard that empties out of his mouth anytime he opens it. If anything, Obama should have been patting him on his head.

  • Charles Krauthammer:

"It was said in the '50's that the way to win the cold war with Russia was to send squadrons of B-52s and drop nylon stockings on the Soviet Union.

We actually won the cold war in a different way. But with Eastern Europe, we won it with openness, the Helsinki process.

So it's arguable which is the most effective. We have had 50 years of an embargo on Cuba, but the grip of the Castros and the army and the party is so strong that it hasn't worked. So I'm agnostic on this.

If Obama wants to try openness, that's good. What he has done now is not a total openness, like Helsinki, but what he has done is to make a gesture, which is to allow some increased commerce and travel, and what he's waiting, appropriately, for is a response, which would mean seeing that the Cubans release some political prisoners.

If he gets a response, I think he ought to make a further gesture, and if, ultimately, it ends up with openness, that's a tact we ought to try. I don't think any of us should have an ideological commitment to a tactic. Whatever works in liberating Cuba, I think we ought to try."

  • I'm open to the notion of travel.

Travel 1st, & if Cuba plays nice, commerce will follow. Always has.

    See:

    1. Rica, Costa

    2. San Lucas, Cabo

    3. Cancun

Cigars cause mouth cancer (along with other cancers) so who cares about them? Another Caribbean vacation get away? Big deal. I would rather visit Thailand.

  • Only sympathetic Liberals care about their counterpart Commi Cuba.

  • Hmm. I thought this was about trying to help Cuba become more open and Democratic. And about changing the former policy, which produced none of those results.

I guess I was wrong. Thanks, crazy person.

    Actually you were wrong.

    It's a chess game.

Now are you betting the Cuban Americans are now over the fact that they were screwed by Castro?

If so, play nice and you might get them on the Democrat bus.

I'd think Batistas guys are mostly dead by now.

    So does Obama.

It's always been about the voting block.

Hell Canadians go there and the Castro boys aren't any sweeter, eh?
