Here's what I would do....

Hang in there everyone.

I don't disagree with most of your stuff here, Mud, but Cooper shouldn't be in that trade list.
and, I wonder how much the Browns are not showing while they haven't made any cuts yet...
in all the situations a defense faces... I think flipping from the 4--3 to a 3-4 at times is the way to go.
Between the up front three, and the lb's, there's that gap, with a 4-3, there's more open backfield,
only three lb's to cover all that space. This puts, imho, more pressure on the safeties to make the
right decisions. Learning is one thing, and implementing everything is another, higher level deal.
I think we are just going to see the implementation phase and they are going to be making mistakes.
Doesn't mean that it won't come together soon. May take even 3-4 games into the regular season to
not make glaring miscommunition and assignment errors.
The Bucs were a terrible matchup for the Browns, obviously. Their wr talent, etc, covers up for
the weaknesses of their offensive line.
The Bucs defense is refueled. The addition of Ayers and Spence is a major improvement.
The Browns are not ready for prime time, I don't expect that to start happening so soon.
When the kinks are worked out, THEN we can see the season long weaknesses that we would
have to live with til next year. I believe when the dust clears, the offense will move the ball
well..a lot of times... against any defense.
The defense will come together, but as much as I hope it will dominate the good nfl teams they will face...
not sure how the pass defense ends up over the season. We'll see.

Wait....what?!?!
You're talking about linebackers covering????......The ONLY linebacker I took out of the equation was Kruger and NOW you're gonna say this hurts our pass coverage????
Cal, cal cal....just smh......

LOL! Playing Kruger in pass coverage is like playing 10 on 11 football already. May as well put the 11th man in the line instead.

Actually, I need to go have breakfast. I wasn't referring to current players on the Browns, I was just
goofing around, talking about the different between the 3-4 and 4-3 generally. I'm thinkin coffee,
my homemade pancakes with real maple syrup, bacon and roast beef hash on the side.

Mud's out of the asylum........ God bless sister Martha.
I totally agree on a 4-3. I've hated our 3-4 since the day we switched, as we never seem to have the personnel, and this year is no different.
As for the 2-back set, I'm not nearly as high on Duke as some/most fans are, and I think Crow gives us our best running game by a long way. I would like to see Crow get the ball 25 times a game minimum, and stop this shitty 2 headed monster stuff that resembles more Sigmund the Sea Monster than Godzilla.

We have an LB named "Thomas"? Converting Joe?

Our "talent" has been at odds with our scheme so long now I've lost track of how many years. For a period of time on the D-side we were swapping with every regime, each of whom came in saying they adapted to the talent, and the swaps came just as the talent was starting to come around to the scheme. Has happened so much I began to wonder if "the other" scheme's fit was just a mirage.
Then we were introduced to the "hybrid" scheme... starting to think an old QB adage adapts well here. "If you have two defensive schemes, then you have no scheme." ... or something...
Anyway...
Yes, we have 4-3 DEs in abundance. DTs? Not sure Danny is one. Behind Meder and Danny is Hughes and ??? Methinks Cooper is needed here. The 4-3 does reduce our LB weakness by one. Secondary? Only pressure can help them... so maybe a slight edge to our running a 4-3.
O? Honestly, I go up-tempo spread... probably the approach I hate the most. No TEs can block, so better off with no TEs. QB can't read? Spread it out... read-options including pass ones... quick screens to big WRs.
Side thought: A lot more fodder for analytics of the skill positions... kinda leave me wondering how predictive they are of the OL and the entire D...
I need a drink...

I think Horty blitzes will expose that secondary more than anything.....and the 2 fat guys, while not traditional tackles, will do ok and plug the middle.....Id rather they be out of posittion, but together, than the DE - OLB out of position thing...
But it just highlights how we have SO MANY non versatile one trick specialist type players, that just leave our hands tied in tems of flexibility and lokks we can put out there....the opposing OC and QB's can EASILY point to each player and know EXACTLY what he's gonna try to do.....easily....

GREAT point......I guess we shall see.....

....or 5....

Don't paint yourself in a corner.

Perhaps in those dreams Derrick Thomas was in a Browns uniform..
