  • Jack Lalanne is the shit

  • Here are famous people who have come from Bakersfield, California:

    Non-sports:

Earl Warren, former Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court

    Merle Haggard....C&W singer

    Buck Owens...C&W singer

    KORN...rock band

    Sports figures:

Jack LaLanne...father of physical fitness movement

Jack Johnson...the original boxing heavyweight champion

Jerry Quarry....also a heavyweight boxer, fought Ali

    Kevin Harvick....NASCAR Driver

Rick and Casey Mears....Indy racing royalty family. Won several Indy 500 races.

Johnny Callison. Excellent baseball player for Phillies in 1960s.

    Lonnie Shelton...former Cavs Power Forward

Ryan Matthews.....RB for Eagles that Browns just faced

Joey Porter....Linebacker for Steelers/Dolphins. Famous for being an asshole

David Carr and Derek Carr....famous QB brothers

    and:

Cody Kessler. Browns starting QB Sunday.

So, the NFL should have two Bakersfield natives starting on Sunday. Do you know of any other town that may have 2 NFL starting QBs currently playing?

Rick Mears is the only one that should be considered famous. One of only 3 men to win the Indy 500 four times. Casey is his brother Roger's kid, but neither Roger or Casey have anywhere near the resume of Rick Mears.

  • i think casey is getting up there in nascar years, allways rooted for him tho

  • You're also missing the late Frank Gifford, graduate of Bakersfield High School. Also, Brent McClanahan, running back for the Vikes, who now teaches at South Bakersfield High.

  • I crapped my pants at a Mexican restaurant named Bakersfield

I thought Casey won a major race at one point, no? Indy 500, I thought. I don't know, I don't follow racing, but I certainly have heard his name on like Sportscenter.

I had his name written down when I looked it up. I must have forgotten to type it.

Named Bakersfield...or in Bakersfield. Lots of itinerant Mexican farm workers in that area.

Casey never won the Indy 500. He might have won something in Nascar but I wouldn't know that.

  • Korn is technically from Oildale. I guess it still counts. I actually live in Bakersfield. Colby Lewis from the Rangers is also from here.

I have actually been to Bakersfield once. I plan to get there again to see the nearby Cesar Chavez National Monument.

Yeah Bakersfield is a nice little town. Just try not to go here in the summer... it got up to 110 this year.

More likely it would be winter. What's it like then? It was fall when I was there the one time.

It gets to what we consider cold. I like it. Its crazy because Bakersfield will be 60 70 or even 80 and then 30 minutes away you have Tehachapi and itll be snowing there. Haha.
