Ok....so Jimmah spoke yesterday....declared the season as a disappointment(IE..not the plan).....and went on to say that they have confidence that the crew that didnt succeed this year will succeed next year......HA!
He pointed to 3 steps we need to take for success.....let's review them, shall we....????
— Jimmy Haslam on keys to the future-
No. 1, we’ve got to re-sign our key players.
Ok.....really????......so, after the debacle that was FA 2016, we will suddenly start to value our own and we have done the things needed to get players to stay?.....Ill believe it when I see it.....
Sign Bito, Collins, Pryor and Kirksey for a good start.......
As time passes we all tend to forget that none of the FA's that left wanted to be a part of this shit show, can't put that on them. Don't bring up Schwartz, he fucked up thinking he was better than he is and lost a gamble. By the way where did he go? Now how do we keep Collins and Pryor both? Franchise or overpay?

Schwartz went to Kansas City, where he is now playing for the number 2 seed in the AFC. He lost for sure, bigly.

Gabe and Mack are sittin pretty too......and are credited with being a big part of Atlantas success this year....
Anyone else notice that Gabe is tied with Julio Jones as the top TD producer on that playoff team?....(twice as many as Coleman, in a back up role.... btw)

I'm not going to lose sleep over Gabriel - he's in a system that suits him with an MVP candidate QB and one of the best wideouts in the league to draw coverage. I'm guessing Coleman would do just fine in that spot also.
Mack, it sucks we couldn't keep him but I get being tired of the losing, and he had no intention of sticking around, so I'm not pinning that on Sashi and Co. either. Schwartz though...we created that void ourselves.
-
well....somewhere in this thread, the point was these guys all sucked and our team sucked when they were here.....so no loss
But my point(and yours too) would be that these guys maybe werent the reasons we sucked.....and maybe we let some good ones go in the purge.....and these guys, who we thought were shit, are producing for far better teams....that got even better with them.....while we got worse without them....
So....again....they're gone.....but the choices the FO is making are not standing the test of time.....Im sure we have many players who would be better on better teams(ala your point with Gabe).....so do we keep letting them go because we arent good yet?....
The FO needs to be able to recognize talent when it's here....not when it flourishes elsewhere....lest we repeat the cycle....

No. 2, we’ve got to be appropriately aggressive in free agency.
Ok....really(again)?......what does appropriately mean?.....cause signing one crappy washed up QB and a nobody linebacker aint gonna get it......How about signing some player who will fill holes in the team, instead of replacing big paychecks with little ones.....
and No. 3, we’ve got to have a great draft......
Hahahaha....no shit sherlock.....year 2, here we go.......on the edge of my seat, as I expect Shashi(and his group) to suddenly go from clueless to above average instantly......
Honestly......it's gonna take SEVERAL great drafts to get this team to elite and, right now, there is zero indication that we have the people in place to make that happen.....
In Jimmys defense....he stood up there like a man and took the hits.....admitted he sucks as an owner.....admitted they keep making bad choices.....admitted this season was a failure.....admitted they are bad custodians of this once great franchise......etc etc etc.....
Then he said they will work work work to get it right.....
Somehow, Im not convinced......

LIke a young, veteran quality OL...and maybe a DB or two.

So.....Gabe, as a Browns Rookie(with shit for a QB) had 36 catches for 621 yds...and as a Falcon has 35 catches for 529.....
and you want to say thats because he has Matt Ryan?......why was he able to do that with Hoyer, Manziel and Austin at QB then?
Coleman wouldnt be any better elsewhere......truly good players show up, no matter what team they're on.....

I think the only guy they didn't recognise was Gabe, and even that wasn't exactly clear cut. And let's be honest here, we didn't cut antonio brown or indeed julio, or beckham, we didn't cut a pro-bowl guy, we cut a guy.
How are you feeling about keeping Crowell? Because suppose he gets lost in the shuffle this offseason, and then goes elsewhere and has another ~1000 yard season with 7 TDs. I'd be more upset to see that happen.

Crow has 800+ on a shit team that abandons the run frequently. A good line and a good QB and I bet he makes the pro bowl.

Eh....it was pretty clear cut to me.....none the less, Ill try to move on....
And yeah....Id be pretty upset if they screw the pooch with Crow......this FO has a lot of catching up to do in the FA game....so he better get to work sealing up our existing home grown talent.......(and Shashi was supposed to be a contract expert....so lets see him execute a few good ones)

I'll bet they're also working on raising the 2017 ticket prices.
I can't imagine anyone would be thrilled about any increase in prices after a 1-15 season, 1-7 at home.
Who do they think they are the Indians? (I understand Tribe ticket packages are doing well.)

I hear ya. Owners make most of their money from shared revenues off of the TV contracts so let's hope there isn't a big urgency to increase season ticket prices for a 1-15 product.

Schwartz didn't wanna stay here at all.
And what exactly was Jimmy supposed to say? "We blow. I know we blow. We'll try to fix it but we're obviously a bunch of idiots so please don't have any faith in us. In closing, just to reiterate, we blow."?

Another great post from the world according to Mud!
In a league where the Jimmys and Joes are just as important as the X's and O's - Jamie Collins and T. Pryor need to be prioritized for getting new deals/contracts here like you mentioned w/ Kirksey and Bitonio. I don't understand the reluctance to do so. Am I missing something?
I guess the hope I'll cling to is Jimmuh's ability to stand up like a man and accept the blame you mentioned above - especially if actions speak louder than words. We've had leadership egos here in the past that refused to accept any accountability for the sinking ships.
I think there's too many Chiefs and not enough Indians in our current FO structure. If I was Haslam, I'd look to Ernie Accorsi for some consultation here. It would be money well spent.

I'm with both of you here, Mud and Flugel! My thought on last years PURGE, both free agent, and wiley veterans is Sushi and co. Think the return of compensatory picks are more value than the presence of said vets! This year they better man up and PAY UP! Another bother to me was the release of OL Cooper,WHY!??? I too Flugel am an Ernie Accorsi guy and feel his consulting would be a HUGE advantage!!!! CAN YOU HEAR THIS JIMMAH!!!

Man, so many people refusing to see the forest for the trees here. I won't go around in circles again, but the goal of this year was to hit rock bottom to build themselves back up. I know it's not what YOU thought the plan was, but that was damn plan. You keep posting what people say like "coach speak" doesn't exist. The FO and crew weren't going to say the idea was to be terrible in order to get top picks, but it just was. You can keep feeling differently but frankly you would be wrong. I'd make a very reasonable argument from this draft we have good players/potential with:
Ogbah
Coleman (remember how he broke his hand and missed about half the season?)
Kessler (even as a viable back-up)
Kindred
DeValve
We also have Pryor, Collins, Kirksey, Thomas, and Bitonio and Greco coming back from injury.
And don't get me started on this FA bullshit again. I'm baffled at how many of you think this FO messed up SOOOO badly by letting the guys we did go. I'll give you schwartz, but do you mofos really think anyone else we let go was a terrible decision? Oh yeah, Gipson was a big fucking mistake (yikes).
The Denver Broncos were 4-12 before they drafted Von Miller. The Panthers were 1-15 before they drafted Cam Newton, and went to 6-10 before drafting Luke Kuechly. The point is, I feel sorry for you guys who thought this season was going to be better than it was. For anyone with critical thinking skills beyond a middle school level though it was clear this FO has a plan. In fact, they have the most coherent plan any FO has had since I have been watching this team play football. They still have to execute on this plan, but year one was a total success in what they were trying to do.

You're a smart guy so think about it for a second. Upon hearing this plan to hit rock bottom to be carried out by a front office full of inexperienced rookies for an owner that has hired 3 HCs in 4 years - Hue Jackson decides it's so brilliant that he tells his agent to cancel the rest of his interviews scheduled and to tell those teams that already interviewed him he's not interested. Make sense? It shouldn't...
And what a terrific plan for a team that won only 3 of their last 21 games prior to this 1-15 season. Be careful what you approve of and wish for because you're getting it. Pass the champagne? Who's the Peyton Manning were getting for all the heroics?
-
What I take from the opening post is Jimmy says what he should say and it's "well duh" but if he hadn't said those things it would have been "he still doesn't get it". So, as we were then...

Who says Hue was seriously being considered for any other job? You don't know Hue's motivation for jack shit, and neither do I. Despite the Browns being a factory of sadness there's only 32 of these jobs available in the entire world. You don't think it's crazy that Hue actually believes in what these guys are doing? If so tell me the lottery numbers for next drawing too.
I get the apprehension, but you get better in the NFL as an organization by building through the draft, period. We've fucked that up royally in the past, but I'm giving this group of people the same two years I'm giving every other organization. The difference is that I actually think these guys have a solid plan as opposed to other regimes seemingly drawing a name out of a hat. I don't know who that player will be, but I'm so tired of you guys looking for that "sure thing". That shit doesn't exist outside of maybe 1 player every 5 years. What I do know is we hold the keys to the car for the first time since 1999 and I'm going to let them drive it.

Not any of the ostriches you were hanging out with. Hue had interviews scheduled for Miami, SF, Cleveland and the NY Giants out of the 5 teams that were looking for a new Head Coach. Feel free to research and read before your next chest pounding adventure.

I'm not the one pretending Hue was all pumped up for 0-16 or 1-15 football while mocking others for not being able "to see the forest for the trees here." Furthermore, signing up to throw football games for a draft that doesn't have an Andrew Luck or Peyton Manning waiting for us at #1 overall is not only absurd - but it lacks integrity. When players were handing Hue the game ball for the only win in front of an emotional Joe Thomas - I'm guessing they're a lot smarter than you're willing to give them credit for. - Flugel
