North Carolina QB Mitch Trubisky headed to NFL draft
-
If this kid was from San Diego and played for UNLV, but everything else were the same, most people here wouldn't even know his name.
-
He throws a good ball, is strong, mobile, and his stock could skyrocket once the workouts and combine arrive. I've said it once, but I'll say it again: His victory over FSU...AT FSU...was extremely impressive. I know it's only one game, and his bowl game performance wasn't stellar, but this kid has the goods IMO. Problem is, I don't think we'll be able to get him because I see us drafting Garrett. We're changing defenses, and if I was a betting man, I'd say that one of the selling points was bringing Garrett to Cleveland. Pure speculation...but whatever. LOL
-
Garrett has basically said he doesn't want to play here hasn't he? Just dressed it up as preferring to play in warm weather.

Nobody cares what draftees think about where they want to play.
And, I mean....anyone that says "I want to play in warm weather"....I don't want to go to cold Cleveland/GB/Chicago/Buffalo...etc. etc. etc......comes off sounding like a bit of a pussy.....fair to say?
Why do we want a big pussy playing for us?
As for MT now being eligible...its OK.....all you all say we don't need him.
Well, we didn't need BR, or Rodgers, or Derek Carr etc. etc to win 3-4 games a year. We can win our 3-4 games a year without him as well.
-
I don't see us drafting Garrett over Allen. Don't think Garrett fits the profile completely at all.
You let Trubisky fall to 12, go ahead.... wait, I want Foster, too.
dammit.

Are BR, Rodgers, and Carr in this draft? Because I don't see any equivalent to any of them in this draft.
Mitch has been rated as the 12th ranked prospect (CBS Sports), 4th rated QB behind Watson, Kizer, and Mahomes (Sports Illustrated), and not in the top 32 prospects by PFF. So this isn't some fevered dream that someone would think that Trubisky doesn't set the world on fire with his play.

I've tried to stay out of the Mitch discussions, because the kid has been a household name here in my home since 2011. I'm bias as all can be. I've been following the kid since he was lining up as a wide-out at Mentor High School to get playing time as an underclassman.
I've seen the kid do some amazing things ... but if it were my call on the #1 overall, right now on January 9, 2017, I'd go defense. If he was there at #12, Hmmmmm ... that would be interesting, but again at this date, I'd still probably go defense again.
Hope this kid has a great career though, I'm not done watching him succeed yet. If I felt that the Browns had an organization to groom a young player, I'd be all for it, but they don't and they are not even close. I hope the kid falls to the late first round and some sound franchise snatches him up to be used in future years.
-
Stop it with the "Let's get Mitch @ 12" or "We can take Garrett #1 and trade up for Mitch"
Look.. If we don't take Mitch #1 we're not gonna be able to get him
It's either Allen/Garret OR Mitch
Not both..
-
you just let Trubisky fall to 33. Go ahead.
dammit.....

Lets see: BR drafted 11th overall. Rodgers 24th overall. Carr at top of second round. Brady round 6. Wilson round 3. Prescott round 4.
And look at this: 95% of the up to date mocks have him going in the Top 5.
Again, it doesn't matter what YOU think...or what any specific one guy that you might site thinks.
He will go in the Top 5.
And if you want....you can join all of us to buy a round when we get together for those margaritas when I prove correct.

Yes, I am aware that QBs are drafted higher than their value regularly. That doesn't mean that prospect is a good value. If Mitch fell to the 12th (BR), 24th (Rodgers), or top of the second, I wouldn't care to pick him up then. Spending a 1 on an overrated prospect is not good value...at all.

Well, again, you know I don't care about him personally like that. I only care about getting a QB for the Browns.
I mean....Connor Cook grew up in Hinckley...just up the road from me....and I may have liked to have seen the Browns take him over Kessler, but I never predicted franchise status for him. Cardale Jones if from Cleveland...and I don't think he will do all that well. Brian Hoyer was from St. Ignatius. Backup QB material. Todd Blackledge, North Canton QB????
And honestly....ALL other franchises in the NFL can eat shit and die as far as I am concerned. So, no. I don't want what I perceive as perhaps the best QB prospect to come out in the space of 3 years to go elsewhere.
And hey....we have had at least two HOF QBs come from NE Ohio: Len Dawson, Alliance, and Benny Friedman.
And hey again....if not MT for the Browns...then who?

Since 1999 it really hasn't matter who they drafted. This franchise still needs to repair its organization and process before we see ANY player make a positive impact.
Just because they read on a back of a paint can that stripping the surface down to the bare wood is recommended for best results, doesn't mean that applies to a football team. And just because Hue had a bunch of young hungry guys who wouldn't receive as much playing time in most other organizations playing hard, doesn't mean that he is a motivator.
They need to pull a draft out of their ass in order to make up for lack of scheme and attitude around Berea. There are a million pieces that still need to fall into place. Tossing a young underclassman QB into the mix, who is use to sitting and learning before his number is called, is not a good fit here.
Draft the best freak available and cross your fingers.

Yep, definitely not because he's rated as the first or 2nd best QB prospect in the draft in a position of great need. Whose this Garrett guy everyone keeps talking about anyway?

Well, I think you are making putting together a team like this seen like its rocket science. I do not believe it is all that difficult....in theory.
Get a good coach, draft/acquire good players.
Bottom line....it really is as simple as that.
So...you have to ask yourself these bottom line questions:
A.do you believe Hue (with help from his assts.) is the guy to turn this team around?
If so....you have 1/2 of the necessary equation.
Now, on players, there are only 2-3 questions to be answered:
B. Do you have a quarterback to go with that coach?
C. Do you have a quality Offensive line in front of the QB
D. Do you have a quality defense
It IS as easy as 1,2,3,4. A, B C D.
I am going to show some faith and say:
A. Yes....Hue CAN be the man at HC (and he showed me something by ditching Horton).
B. NO....we don't have that QB. It IS the Browns most critical need.
C. Partially. Browns have about 3/5ths of a good OL. Need better players or need ones to develop
D. NO. We clearly have not had the defense. But, steps are being made. Getting Williams. Developing all our young players. Getting 3-4 more contributors by draft of FA.
And, I am sorry...but that is it. That is what's needed to form a winning football team.
And I, for one, do not want some chicken shit attitude stand in the way our team accomplishing these things.
If this kid of yours, in your opinion, ain't got the balls to handle it here, then perhaps, yes, he should maybe go somewhere else where they can powder his tushy while waiting for him to grow the fuck up.
But, I actually have more faith in the kid apparently than you do. I think he had the kohones to handle things here. And all those great character traits that you like about him help him with that.

Value and where they are picked are two different things. The rankings I put up only put up the value of the player when compared to other players regardless of position. Where they are picked will always be skewed by their position. I would rather take BPA as opposed to need picking a player that isn't considered to be in the top 10 of prospects. Again, prospect ranking not where draft experts think a player will be picked.

And, again, the term "Value" is just a fool's gold word. It is a cliche that has no true relevancy.
The Value of a player is how he performs when he becomes a pro. That can never be determined.
The Raiders thought that Jamarcus Russell was a "value" pick.
The fact is the real questions are: Who do we think is the most talented player? Who do we think is the most talented player at a position that our team needs. Who do we think is the player that will perform the best when he hits the professional field.
The ONLY thing that matters is who do we pick and how well do we think he will do.
And here is a clue yabo: Top 10 rankings are like fucking Project Runway. One day you are in, the next day you are out, the next day you are in again. By the same service, Trubisky wasn't rated in the top 25 when the year started. Then one week he was #3, then he was #16, then he was #12. By the time things are done he will be rated somewhere else.
But, it don't fucking matter where he will be rated...or what you think his "value" is. It ONLY matter when he will be drafted. Every fucking pre draft rating and mock draft become dust in the wind once the actual draft is done.
This guy WILL be drafted Top 5.
There is no "value" that you think he has, nor any "rating" that you think he should have that will change that.
The ONLY thing that matters is where he will be picked....and by who.
-
Gip, you have your official choice that you will grip on to for dear life until the draft.
If we pick the kid, I hope the best for him. I just haven't gotten any world beater vibes from him like you have. We shall see how this goes.
