  • Why does the media even make anything out of it? Be a they have nothing. So they find anything they can to put down and smear the right.

    That is their goal unfortunately.

Why does the media talk about how the whitehouse press office (and Trump himself) are just blatantly lying to everybody about easily disprovable things? Gee I can't think of a reason.

It's the duty of the press/media in a democratic society to hold politicians to account. Now you can argue about which media entity is biased in which direction all you like but this is the kind of thing all media entities should be doing.

If they're so blasé about lying even on relatively trivial things - and sure, the amount of people who showed up affects nothing - why would we believe them on things there's actually incentive to lie about? Economic growth, illegal immigration numbers, climate issues, gun violence, the important things.

I'm trying to be contrary here or whatever, it seems like you genuinely don't understand why this is a big deal and I'm trying to help explain, from my perspective, why it is a big deal.

  • Spicer: This was the largest audience to ever witness an inaugurationperiodboth in person and around the globe.

When someone says "period" that is a way of trying, in fact, to say that what they are saying is an unequivocal truth. Not a story, not a generalization, not an allegory. A fact. In this case, an alternative fact that is easily disproven.

The smart thing to do would've been to say: "Hey we get it. This shows how divided our nation is. We are going to get to work, earn the trust of the American people and in four years you will see the largest inauguration attendance in history."

Both in person and around the globe. Keyword both.

Is it a little bit of a spin to use the word viewership? Maybe. Is it a demonstrable lie? Not at all.

What is easily demonstrable is that it was not the largest in person or in US viewership. That makes it highly unlikely that it was the highest the largest viewership in the world.

  • Left always playing on words to divert from what he has already accomplished, which is quite a bit in 4 days.

Wrong. The in-person attendance? Yep that's demonstrable. The online and social media viewership? The worst you can say is unsubstantiated.

  • PS I almost had the laugh out loud watching MSNBC as the pundits at the Round Table told us how much is them that the president wants to spend so much time arguing about the size of the inauguration when all they want to do, as a dedicated journalist that they are, is discuss policy.

These people have talked about almost nothing else for the last couple days.

That's right, I forgot about online and social media. Still, if the in-person and TV viewership was lower than everything else, it is still more likely that the viewership in other formats was less, too.

Not really. I gave you the in person point. The online and social media has skyrocketed over the last four and especially eight years.

    WSS

  • The online/social media viewership will be significantly higher than it was 8 years ago, just because the world is set up to deal with it more now. Plus, like him or not, he's a very controversial figure and people are drawn to that, so I would expect the social media viewership to be higher.

But again, that's not what was being claimed. "“No one had numbers because the National Park Service, which controls the National Mall, does not put any out” says Spicer, seconds before asserting it was the largest ever. So how can he possibly know? He can't. But, he makes the claim, then when confronted you get "well you can't be 100% this isn't accurate" and so we're supposed to just let it go. Like suggesting that three million illegal immigrants voted - there's no evidence or basis for this, but because you can't show the actual legitimate answer (because how would you even count that?)...

It's a continuation of the blurring of lines between fact and fiction that started in the campaign, and as I said before, multiple times, doesn't bode well for the honest reporting of actual important facts in the future.

  • you mean like clinging to their Bibles and their guns?

they said viewership. That includes online. And the stupid whining about

the issue, then bashing Trump for discussing it... come on.

The leftwing dems in Congress want to delay several of Trump's appts to his cabinet

    for weeks/months if they can.

More and more very serious precedents have been set, and are being set, that will come back

to bite them in the ass. Right now, the media is getting bit, too.

Elections have consequences, but as usual, dems hate consequences when they don't like them,

and they get to decide who suffers them... no workee. What goes around, comes around. I think

we will never have more than one legitimate political party in America for years, maybe never.

The Reps aren't perfect, but at least they don't want to burn everything down out of spite, nominate

communists to gov, and flood our borders with all illegals whoever they are, by the millions. That's

    the leftwing revolutionary "democrats".

    Asswholes.

This, this right here. What chris just said. Nailed it.

  • He's the president now why is the bullshit train still going down the tracks?
