Joe T. on FAs... and Team's "Leadership Council"?

Thomas expects Browns to sign "3 or 4 big-time" free agents
While in town to start his offseason workout regimen, Browns Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas made an appearance on Cleveland Browns Daily on WKNR 850 AM. The show is part of the Browns official media.
When asked about what he believes will happen this offseason, with the Browns holding 5 of the first 65 draft picks as well as the most salary cap room of any NFL team, Thomas was effusive.
“I expect us to sign three or four big-time free agents,” Thomas responded. “It’s a really huge opportunity”.
Cleveland has about $96 million in salary cap room available for 2017, though the projected figures from Over the Cap could be on the low end. That’s after factoring in the recent Jamie Collins contract extension.
Thomas sits on Cleveland’s leadership council, which helps steer the decision-making process.
NFL free agency kicks off in early March, with the signing period opening on March 9.
Which “big-time” free agents will wind up Cleveland? Let the speculation begin!http://brownswire.usatoday.com/2017/02/06/thomas-expects-browns-to-sign-3-or-4-big-time-free-agents/
Player input into personnel... interesting concept I'd not read a lot about. At least not since Pet left and then I don't remember it extending beyond the staff to the FO.

I'd think leadership council is more of an advisory committee than anything. These players have a small bit of inside knowledge that maybe, just maybe, these coaches aren't privy to. Could just be water cooler talk at NFLPA meetings or the Pro Bowl or what have you, but there's no doubt instances of top, influential players on different teams talking between themselves.
I think it's a good thing the players are involved to some extent. After all, they're the ones who would have to play alongside these FA and draft acquisitions.

Speaking of Joe, he weighed in on the Steelers cutting Justin Gilbert. Just like we always he suspected Joe says he "doesn't like football"

Sashi fleeced the Steelers for a sixth.
How bout all those tackles Mingo was making yesterday? There's a fifth.
Carolina's old, injured, punter ... There's a fourth.
Currency, currency, currency ... The cashing in begins in less than three months ...

Wow. #Steelers release CB Justin Gilbert. Remember: the Browns made him the 8th overall pick less than three years ago.
Amen, Joe...

Does anyone expect Mingo to be retained by the Pats?

Sure... but involvement with the FO is new AFAIK. Bringing grievances to the HC is one thing, but personnel input?
Asking about personality fits is certainly fitting. I can also see asking opinions about the skills a potential FA might bring...

Top 10 Browns bust, top 50 all time NFL. His contract had $12 million guaranteed. Nice retirement payout. But will he be broke by the time he's 30?

well, finally, we have a Browns org that knows better than to draft
players who have partying, smoking dope, and all at the top of their
list, and playing football at the bottom.
All those failed draft picks, when all they had to do was look at the
players' love for the game, work ethic and character.
too bad.
