The second half superbowl and the Browns first round picks

The Browns Board

  • Brady is the only guy who can take an elite edge rusher out of a game. Not a good example. (And that may not even be true. Ask Von Miller this question.)

  • This is being posted because I thought a few things, out of anger....

I was so sure Atlanta would win, I made a huge bet with our friend's daughter

in N.C. Ten bucks down the drain.

Had friends over, lots of food, Atlanta had the game

well in hand... but we were amazed that the Falcons kept running out of bounds.

and calling timeouts. It's the third quarter and everybody is saying "don't run out of...too late"

seriously? and fumbled the ball. oh well.

anyways, to the Browns' draft. The second half, the Patriots came out loaded for bear,

throwing players around after the play... etc taking out a few Falcon linesmen's knees...

the patriots went to the pass instantly offense. and their quick wr's get open quick,

brady gets the snap and throws it.... so there ya go. Makes me wonder about a few things.

If the Falcons had had Garrett in their lineup, would he have been able to get to

Brady in the second half before he threw the ball? I don't think so.

So, maybe Garrett isn't the guy for the Browns. I know a quicker pass rush helps the secondary,

but as great as the Atlanta pass rush was, the Patriots are just excellent at the quick throws.

No player could have gotten to Brady in time.

So...... maybe the Browns need their seconary fixed first. Maybe Foster is more the

fix than Garrett. After watching that second half turnaround, Maybe... if the Browns

are not going Trubisky.. they definately trade down, to where they can still get Foster.

Or Lattimore, even though it's a deep cb draft. or Jamal Adams. Or maybe what the hell do

I know, wish the combine was tomorrow. After the patriots came back and won, she texted

me a picture of a cartoon character happy dancing. dammit.

falcons put enough pressure on brady to win the game...heck, one dl had 3 sacks alone and brady was harrassed often...what killed them was the number of plays the pats ran vs what the falcons ran...the d ran out of gas late in the game...offense blew it...just think, if they take 3 knee downs, kick the fg, you'd be 10 bucks richer.....wooo hoooo...

The NFL is a fraternity. The days of Ben Davidson are long gone.

agreed...i hate the pats, but they are a insanely great organization....

Brady got beat up vs Houstons 3 - 4 defense without JJ Watt.

You beat Brady by dropping 8 in coverage and rushing 3. Brady hates hanging on the ball.

You beat Brady by putting pressure right in his face. (You beat every QB that way).

The Falcons seemed to have either called off the dogs...or the dogs were all breathing heavy with their tongues hanging out.

True... gridiron villains were far more common in the 50's, 60's and even 70's.

Really started to die out as the NFLPA came into prominence with the 2nd or 3rd CBA, when the salaries really stared to eclipse the playoff shares.

Now there are just a few rogues trying to injure folks...

  • Barely... he came out of "the U"?

Suh... yeah, leader among actives, along with Burfect, but they all look like choirboys compared to Conrad Dobler.

I remember the story on Gene "Big Daddy" Lipscomb, DT for the old BLT Colts in the late 50's. QBs warned that if he ever knocked you down and offered his hand to help you up to never take it. He'd try to crush it in his hand.

    This.

You MUST pressure Brady. Without it he'll stand there and wait for a WR to get open...and they will, if Brady's allowed to stand and wait.

  • Speaking of Browns first round picks, Justin Gilbert was cut by the Stoolers today.

  • Yeah, what Joe Thomas said was priceless.

    http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2017/02/joe_thomas_on_justin_gilbert_g.html

Browns left tackle Joe Thomas, who's become increasingly vocal in recent years, summed it best when he tweeted, "If you don't like football, it doesn't matter how talented you are, your star will burn out quick.''

  • Not your worst thought ever...

ATL owed a good bit of it's early pressure success to taking away early reads... even produced a pick-6 in one instance. Give NE credit for adjusting.

But a couple of the sacks by Jackson were off clean beats of the OL across from him and the just-a-beat-late, knock downs Brady suffered, some bigger than some of the sacks' blows, had an effect as well.

Stay the course... elite edge is rarely than productive DBs... and you need both.

... but $10 is "huge"? I know huge is now an integral part of your adopted vernacular, but "C'mon Man"!

Hey, that ten bucks is five times bigger than my biggest bet - two bucks. I was so

certain on Atlanta, I almost made it 12, but decided not to get too confident..... 🙂

  • @boo-fagley said:

The Broncos OL used to be notorious cut blockers. Suh is dirty.

    Remember Brandon Merriweather?

A knuckle headed Safety for NE who wouldnt stop hit players high. The Pats got rid of him. Belichick says they coach to hit below the shoulder pads and above the knees.

Too bad you don't play in the AFC North- you'd get to hate Brufect and Headhunter Harrison.

Stay the course indeed! Need I bring up the name Khalil Mack? Will the Browns repeat history and screw this up once again? NFL Defensive Defensive Player if the Year.

This staff would not survive long enough to reap any benefits from that pick. Would you put your coaching career on him or would you build a sure fire defense that draws wins and crowds again?

Oh I am firmly in the Garrett or Allen camp so you know where I shake out.

It still stumps me that with all the resources they have at their disposal, the FO could not have found out about Gilbert and JM before the draft. Is this why we fired so many scouts?
