Bush should have cared (not so much about SNL but in fighting back against the MSM). He took the attitude especially in his second term why even bother to fight back and that attitude was a big reason for his historically low job approval numbers when he left office (22 percent job approval) . When you don't fight back against charges made against you it is like admitting the charges were true.
It is not a theory about SNL when you have Chevy Chase stating he deliberately wanted to portray Ford in a bad light to try and help Jimmy Carter. Recently we have comedians saying the same thing they want to use comedy as a weapon to try and bring down Trump.

I don't see this as attacking Obama so much as attacking the Washington Post. Obama is not the one exaggerating his athletic ability it is the Washington Post. Wapo is supposed to be one of the fact checkers of the media but they get 4 Pinocchio's here with their exaggerations about Obama.
