OK, just announce we're taking Garrett....

If Garrett is a bust then all of the drafting experts should find new jobs because it's literally a concensus. Browns shouldn't over think it. And while I agree that we should address QB at 12, what if someone like Fournette or Adams falls to us at 12? Maybe then we look at the second round, first selection. But what if Peppers falls out of the first round? Then we're left with the second round, second selection?

Maybe we sign a FA QB?

I just don't know what to think. Like a kid in a candy shop!

Hue said he doesn't think his favorite QB will be there at 12, which can be translated several different ways. If they go with Garrett first, and see their QB sitting there at 12 it's pretty much a done deal.

Adams would make it interesting, but i can't believe there would be 11 players selected ahead of him unless someone hacks his phone and posts a video of him performing satanic rituals or some shit.

See Camp Trade up. The Browns acquired those multiplicity of high picks to use them....they may just use them to trade up from 12 after picking #1.

  • Didn't know you can actually sign the player before the draft even starts if you have the number one pick. Just sign Garret and not waste 1 minute of time on the clock please

Yes....you can. But as I said elsewhere, with salary slotting it is not as important to do so now as it was before. Plus the NFL does not want its NFL draft TV show to lose its suspense, so they discourage the signing and naming of the first pick before the draft.

  • Didn't know where else to put this, so this info is as good a place as any concerning $$ for 2017 draft pick signings.

So, a fair chunk of that 100 mill in cap space will have to be spent on draftees.

About 8 million alone on just #1 and #12.

  • Great.. so lets go another 30 years without drafting a possible franchise QB.. they want fucking rejects like Tyrod fucking garbage Taylor.. Fuck shashimi and depudpuller...

Yup let's just keep drafting projects. #22 and lower. One of these years we'll get lucky.

A blind man could have picked Dak-we were just gunshy.

If we don't take Garrett I will be super pissed. No need for a QB early in first

Actually, there is a need for a qb early in the first. But you can't have everything.

Actually there are 32 picks in round one. And not a single one of them have the power to infuse a QB with infallibility.

  • I don't get why people want to take a HB at 12. We have so many needs, and we want to use the #12 pick on the position where you can most consistently get production for late round guys. Plus I think Crow and Duke are solid.

I agree but the presence of fournette at 12 would leave me uncertain. Like if both hooker and peppers are long gone, a distinct probability.....than id have to take a strong look at fournette if he were to still be there.

  • If the browns go offensive playmaker at 12, I'd much rather have Orenthal James Howard than any of the RBs...

Marshall Faulk never says anything negative about kids coming out of indigent areas in Louisiana; so he took a while to carefully word how surprised he was the kid showed up 18 lbs heavier than he played at. He seemed like he was disappointed but said if he was still 222 lbs - he would have thought the 4.51 wasn't that good but since he's 18 lbs heavier - he's okay with the time. Let's just say I've seen better compliments.

I think in the back of Faulk's mind he was thinking does this kid realize he's showing NFL teams he's already willing to let his weight climb up before someone inks him at the extent of elite RB speed? Just MO but I could be wrong...

Fournette doesn't light my fire. I was more impressed with Cook and love his compact build/low center of gravity and how helpful he has been to FSU's passing game if RB somehow becomes a bare cupboard on us.

He's the only offensive guy I want in round 1 and it's because he won't be just a TE for a team that suddenly looks like it will lose Pryor. He'll line up outside, inside and all over the place. Did you see that highlight when he lined up at FB and took a pass behind the line of scrimmage; then he got outside to the sideline and outran several Clemson DBs and LBers with ideal pursuit angles on him. He's not just a TE any more than Jimmy Graham was. Graham is a classic example of a TE that can have much better statistics in the NFL than a college offense due to his coach knowing how many places he can be the mismatch. Last time Hue was in Cincy, he got 13 TD receptions out of Eifert in 2015.

We could have DeValve in the slot, Howard at TE/WR and Coleman.Plus, there could be some real good route runners on our door step like Cooper Kupp or Zay Jones. Safety seems deep enough to where we could land a real good one at #33 while WRs like JuJu Smith-Schuster USC 6-2 220 lbs, Zay Jones ECU 6-2 202 lbs and Chris Godwin PSU 6-1 205 lbs could be on our doorstep at #52 overall in round 2. Maybe even Cooper Kupp EW 6-1 198 lbs could be there. I'm sure some of these guys can run some great routes here.

Actually, thank goodness, it's O'Terrius Jabari Howard... but nonetheless I agree with the sentiment.

I would just never take a HB that high

  • i just love the idea of having a 6th offensive lineman out there. Howard has the skill set to contribute on different levels and is willing to do it.

I'd be a fan of Howard even if he was 'just' a 6'6" 250 lb TE who caught everything with his hands without ever dropping the ball. After watching him play, I saw he was so much more than that, he's a great blocker who was a major part of the Alabama run game. The kid has no weaknesses, and I'm worried he will end up with the ravens or steelers.

Edit: oh yeah, I almost forgot he ran a 4.51 40 at the combine and threw up 22 bench press reps...

Well in that case there's always the Shaheen kid out of Ashland...

Interesting... although this was part of his scouting write up "He's a poorer blocker than what might be expected for a player with his frame"

Followed by "... but he's also a much more dangerous pass catching target."

I'll take a big, TE who needs work blocking so long as, as Mike Mayock put it, "the kid shows a willingness to stick his face in there." A quick look says he passes that test.

He starts shaky, but there is more good than bad overall. Check out the route/catch at the 3:44 mark.

Most of what I saw of him blocking in the above was pretty good.... raw as hell, but pretty good... and certainly willing. Did not see the head dipping mz the pussy wrote up. Pretty good punch with hands consistently inside and little reaching with no holding that I saw.

Waist down is where work is needed... more knee flex and sitting with his feet under him will help him keep the position he establishes early.

  • I would not be opposed to Njoku at #33, but I'd be even happier with Hodges in the third.

Shaheen is a consolation prize if we can't get one of the aforementioned two, in my opinion.

No to Howard, he's gonna go top 15 and that's just too high.

  • I don't get why people want to take a HB at 12. We have so many needs, and we want to use the #12 pick on the position where you can most consistently get production for late round guys. Plus I think Crow and Duke are solid.

I think we have only 1 guy that wants a RB there: PoG.
