Trubisky

They looked to trade down at most opportunities too ^

Except, of course, the Browns have just made a lot of steps to protect whomever their QB is to be. They have a HOF at LT, they just picked up one of the best OGs in the game. They took a solid center where they had none last year. They signed Bito to a long term deal, and they made a couple of other moves on the OL to shore it up. McCants, etc. And the deal for Pasztor is not dead.
Now, even with these, if they take a guy say at #12, they still have to sit him for a while, no matter what IMO.
And don't be giving me no fucking "2d tier QB". That is all we have had here for 15 years. Give me a fucking star QB.
Today, right now, the Browns are still one of the worst teams in the league. If we put a kid behind our improved oline, that all sounds good, except that by the middle of the 3rd the Browns are down by 17pts because the defense can't even stop A&M, so the opposing D just T's off on the improved oline, and our shiny new toy still gets the Couch beat out of him.... We are still a 3-5 win team with holes all over the field, and on both sides of the ball -
DO NOT REACH!!
As for 2nd tier, the Browns have tried many 1st round, tier 1 QBs (all with TONS of potential - at least that's what all of the 'experts' said anyway) and they all shit the bed.... The only exception is Couch, which I think could've been a real NFL star had he of been drafted anywhere but v2.0.
I wonder if there has ever been a historically bad team, that then hired a new staff, drafted well for a few years, slowly improved while adding players, then simply added a "2nd tier" QB that actually could play the game of football (instead of look real good in a tank top and shorts) and then became a dominate franchise??
Oh sorry Seattle Seahawks, I didn't see you there.

So, OK, lets not reach. Maybe taking Garrett will turn out to be considered a reach. Or anyone they take. It hasn't mattered who they have chosen in the past....lots of guys can be considered "reaches" A RB (Richardson), A DE (Mingo) A CB (Gilbert) An OC (ERving)...and certainly some QBs. A guy is a reach if he ends up sucking. He is not a reach if he ends up good. That is the bottom line.
And another team you describe is the Steelers with BR being the icing on their cake.
My philosophy is to do both: Build up the team around him AND get a good QB.
Think about the 1970s Steelers...they got the QB first in 1970 with Bradshaw, and it took some time for him to develop and for the team to get stronger, but when they did they became a dynasty. And the 1990s Cowboys did it that way too.
So...it can be done both ways.

Pretty fair statement. I'll say that while I haven't liked what I have personally seen of Garrett - although admittedly, a very limited sample size, he seems to be the one player in the draft where almost everyone else agrees that he is the player with the most upside, and is most likely to star in the NFL, so we have got to just take him at 1 and call it a day.
From that pick on out, please for the love of all that's holy, please just take the BPA.... With all of our holes, it shouldn't be hard to fill a position of need with a possible starter by simply going BPA.
That is of course unless we draft 5 more WRs.

And whose opinion is to be followed in deciding who is BPA? I may have players that I think may possibly be better than Garrett for #1.....so that kind of blows that whole thing, nay?
But I guess we will simply have to rely on the judgment of Hue/Sashi etc. We have no choice.

Wait...
So you're saying "best" isn't determined by a numerical score given to prospects on NFL.com?
Well now I just don't know what to believe...

Yes, you have proven over the years that you have no clue what to believe.

Hue Jackson just said that this might not be the year we get our QB of the future. As much as that completely hurts to hear, it's something I've been thinking a lot about. We have a ton of picks, and quality picks at that. So what if we do the unthinkable and just MAKE the selections? What can we do with the first overall pick, the #12, the #33, and the Titans' 2nd rounder? That's a bunch of swings at the plate. Even though those four selections represent rookies, and you never know with them, I think our team is better than last year's. Part of that has to do with how AWFUL we were, but part of that also has to do with the talent we are acquiring. We nail those picks this year....and anything is possible. My goal is to build something like the Texans. Let's get that defense rocking, let's run the ball, let's win the close games. We could go from one win to 5-6, and while that doesn't sound "amazing", I think it would represent a solid season.
It's the reality that I have come to grips with for a while now. Add as many good football players as possible to a team full of Swiss Cheese type holes, limp through a 3-5 win season, show improvement, get your QB once most of the holes are filled.
If the organization doesn't love, and I do mean love one of the QBs that are available this year (draft, trade or FA) then just ride and die with those that are already on the roster...... Why add AJfookinMcCarron or Michelle13gamestookforevertobethestarterTrubisky to compete for the backup QB spot in a room already full of backup QBs??
Axioms are rarely enlightening...

Because you believe they improve the team... that one or the other, or some other unname-ified QB, has a chance to be your starter that is commensurate with the cost of acquiring him.
DO NOT REACH!!
a/k/a... let the draft come to us...

Had to Google axioms

Well, if our powers that be think it's AJ, then I'm already turning green and rapidly outgrowing my clothes. However If they think it's Mitchell, no, make that if they know it's Mitch ( < see what I did there - one sentence, two names... how fun will that be for the 3 years he's a Brown? ) then they need to use all of the ammo they have acquired in order to guarantee they get him.
^ Hopefully, all of that is nothing more than pre-draft fear mongering, as we watch him go to another desperate team, and much like the '72 Dolphins do when the last team loses its 1st game, I pop the champagne.

Browns will host Mitch Trubisky for a private workout in Berea Friday
PHOENIX -- The Browns will conduct a private workout with Mitch Trubisky on Friday, but all they have to do is walk downstairs to their fieldhouse for the session, league sources tell cleveland.com.
Trubisky, the Mentor, Ohio native and former Ohio Mr. Football, will participate in the Browns visit day Friday for local college prospects who attended high school or college in the area.
Unlike the other 30 pre-draft the Browns are permitted, the local prospects are allowed to work out at the Browns' facility during the hometown day. That means the Browns don't have to spend one of their 30 visits on Trubisky, and they can conduct the visit and the workout all on the same day.

Hometown Day exemption... interesting loophole.

Meanwhile back at QB...
McManamon has a interview with Bruce Ariens just out. Ariens says he sees one prospect with the stuff to start as a rookie in this draft. He doesn't say who it is, but does make the following comments on Trubs...
Arians wasn't mentioning names of who can and can't play right away because he may be in the market to draft one. But he did give this individual evaluation of Trubisky: "Really talented player. The growth potential is obviously there. The question is why wasn’t all that talent starting for the last three years? That’s always bugging me. So you have to go and answer those questions with him, with his coach. But the physical talent is there.”
He also chuckled at anyone comparing Trubisky to Aaron Rodgers, a future Hall of Famer who started 25 games at Cal.
“That’s a hell of a scout; I don’t know how you can compare those two," Arians said. "When Aaron was coming out, he was in a totally different offense. I’m old enough to know when Aaron came out because I evaluated him. I think Mitch probably has a stronger arm coming out than Aaron did. But to say anybody reminds you of somebody, to me it’s just physically stature-wise or just arm-strength wise.
"I wouldn’t put that much pressure on a guy to say he’s Aaron Rodgers.”

Bruce Arians is just another guy with an opinion. He doesn't know football.

Exactly. These guys are just guys with opinions, like all of us. They don't know any more than any of us.
Unless their opinion is that Trubisky is the best. Then, of course, they know exactly what they are talking about and we should quote them religiously as experts.

Someone can have similar traits to another player....such as mobility, moxie, arm strength, ability to throw on the move, accuracy, quick delivery...and then be compared to someone. And that is what the deal is with MT and Rodgers. But certainly it is inaccurate say "this guy will be another Aaron Rodgers". What you can say is that he exhibits the same kind of traits and innate talent that Rodgers has. But, of course that will not mean he will actually mimic Rodgers.
This kind of thing is done all the time: "so and so reminds me of Joe Montana. This guy has a lot of Brett Favre in him." It is just a short hand way to try to make a comparison, even if it has no reality. How any people are "the Next Michael Jordan"..etc.

No fucking qb pick till after 2nd round. No matter who we pick they will not help the team.

It's like trying to plug a leak with a q tip. Not going to help with this qb class
