Actually, the Orian woman that I posted here are NOT in the movie...they are from the series Star Trek: Enterprise.

  • Hey look, I found a picture of Dan while he was waiting in line for the Star Trek movie:

I didn't even see you take my picture...you got me 🙂

    I liked the movie btw

  • I saw it this afternoon and I liked it. I've been a Star Trek fan for a long time and this one didn't disappoint.

  • I'm looking forward to Star Trek. You see the bridge? It looks like they consulted Apple for design specs.

I heard Wolverine messed up Deadpool pretty hard. I've got all the Deadpool comics, so if that's true that one little thing could ruin it for me. I'd still like to see it.

Terminator Salvation, there's a rumor going around the delay was the focus groups hated the ending so bad it had to be re-shot, something about Conner getting killed and his lutenists stripping off his skin and tossing it on a terminator programed to think it was him as they secretly gave all the real orders. Anyone else hear that one?

    Transformers....

HAVE to see it, I loved the first one, went to see it in the theater 3 times and the 2nd one looks like it's going to be even more of a special effects extravaganza.

I didn't hear that about Terminator Salvation and my Cousin is actually one of the producers (and his name is Derek Anderson - really http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2203770/).

I have spoken with him and I know that there are plans to have two additional movies completing another trilogy. I actually saw him last week for a funeral back home in Steubenville and he was busy as hell on the phone preparing for the premiere. Hopefully it does well. We're all excited about it.

  • No, I won't see it tonight I had to work, and I'm getting kind of old for midnight shows. Tomorrow for sure. And many more times after. LOL for us hardcore Trekkies, Star Trek: Enterprise messed up the timeline so badly, I have to take things with a rather large grain of salt. If that trailer was correct, every one of us old timers knows Kirk grew up in Iowa, not some Arizona\desert. 🙂

Ever wonder who I am? Oh, it's a deliberate misspelling there's two of us running around. 🙂

I'm looking forward to it myself, but am ready for a break in the timeline.

  • Not a trekkie but really want to see the movie. I hate Sci-Fi but the action and effects look unbeleivable. I want do that HALO jump they do in the previews!

the creature calls itself a horta, captain. great episode.

i've always wanted to throw that quote at you.

iowa's not all green fields and pastoral scenes. there's a reason the midwest was once the dust bowl.

also, it's a re-imagining of the origin story to a certain extent. the crew's definitely together way before they were in the original series.

and if you don't like that kirk might not be from iowa, you'll be hella pissed when the kid playing young kirk mispronounces his middle name as 'siberius' instead of what it really is. i plan on booing lustily.

  • I saw it, it was really good.

The way it started it gave it an entirely new timeline (so they can do ANYTHING now, it branches off in a new direction from the original series of movies) and leaves the doors open for an entire new string of squeals.

I loved Trek, but this one is fantastic, you don't have to be into Trek to enjoy it.

  • new trek ftmfw omfg

  • Unbelievable, great movie. opens up a hole new series of movies....

The rumor has been announced false by the creators. Go its IMDB page, there's a FAQ about it. I'm surprised you actually fell for such a stupid rumor. In short: He does not have his skin ripped off and placed on a Terminator.

  • Oh, and also, Star Trek was awesome. It's definitely moving out of its nerdy techno-geek stigma with this film.

  • I was disappointed with the movie. Not because of the break with the past (it gives them the ability to do whatever they want now), but with the storyline, plot, and even 'action'.

For example, there really wasn't any purpose to the Nimoy-Spock tie in, and the entire 'how Kirk met Nimoy-Spock' scene was just contrived (he is randomly dispatched to a planet and just HAPPENS to be chased into the caver where Spock is staying, who just happens to decide to go to the outpost NOW). Not to mention, he wouldn't have just been dumped on an iceball planet far away from an (apparently) inactive outpost with no supplies. That entire section of the movie could have been dumped, with no loss at all.

It started with the whole Corvette chase scene. Where did he get the gasoline for this vehicle from living in a society where gasoline is no longer used? And then he leaps from the car as he sends it over a cliff? Come on, basic physics still apply in this universe. Same thing with the 'beam them up while falling at terminal velocity'.

WTF was that Alien with Scottie? What purpose did it serve?

Destroying Nero's ship? So no one thought of destroying it via core ejection? Duh. How did he even come by this supership? From the movie, my understanding is that he was a miner.

The fight on Nero's ship was ridiculous - the ship wasn't really laid out in any sort of logical fashion. Yeah, I know it's the future, but there are still certain 'rules' to laying out a ship for any bipedal species that cannot climb, fly, or leap great distances (Romulans can't do any of those things). Not to mention that Romulans are supposed to be baddasses - a ship full of these guys couldn't take out two dudes beamed in?

The Enterprise engine room looked like something out of a beer factory. You have all of these mocked-up aluminum containers and this whole maze of water-cooling using pipes out of a current aircraft carrier that would be ridiculously susceptible to damage in a fight. It didn't fit in with the very modern feel of the rest of the ship.

I didn't care for the acting, and trying to shoehorn the original casts various mannerisms into the new actors just didn't work. They can't deliver the lines the same way, so why even try? In particular, the lines from Scottie and McCoy felt really forced.

To me it didn't seem like they thought the plot out enough - lots of 'oh crap, how can we make this happen? Lets just come up with something random or ignore the obvious to advance the plot.'

I didn't hate the movie, I just didn't think it was that good. About average, IMO.

It appears his target audience wasn't Trek fans, which is fine. Unfortunately, what we got was a watered down action movie with the Star Trek name to help sell tickets. Throw a different name on this movie, and it does just average in the box office and reviews. Sort of like Indiana Jones 4 (without all of the CGI 'animals'...)

  • Lem,

I can understand ALL your points you made. They could have tweaked it and still had all the action.
