Teams That have Picked Two Pro Bowlers in the 1st Round of the Same Draft

Browns 1978: Matthews/Newsome. I know, you were only going back to 2000. This is the only time in Browns history this has happened.
Though there were other years when the Browns had 2 1st round picks:
1952: Bert Riechichar and Harry Agannis
1954 Bobby Garrett and John Bauer
1962 Gary Collins and Leroy Jackson
1970 Mike Phipps and Bob McKay
1973 Steve Holden and Pete Adams
1978 Clay and Ozzie
1994 Antonio Langham and Derrick Alexander
2007 Joe Thomas and Brady Quinn
2012 Trent Richardson and Brandon Weeden
2014 Justin Gilbert and Johnny Manziel
2015 Danny Shelton and Cameron Erving
If you notice.....it is about 50/50 that when the Browns have 2 1st round picks that BOTH of them become busts. I have italicized the years in which I think this is true.
I have also italicized the other busts in years that one player turned out good. That puts the bust rate well over 50% in those years.
Lets hope we come away with another 1978.

Raji and Matthews. We can dream this one goes similar to that for us.

Garrett and Foster?

One can dream.....I could settle for Reddick at 12 though

Might quibble over a couple busts.... but there is no quibbling about our gold standard...

Won't he be off the field for 60-70% of the snaps?

Not necessarily...
If you believe in the best 11 approach, or rather our latest DC's adherence to an approach all have espoused, but none have delivered, then in Nickle packages, the lion's share of that 60-70%, you can pull Danny for your extra DB making Reddick and Kirksey your LBs while Collins joins a pseudo-NASCAR DL that puts two down with hands in the dirt while Garrett, Reddick, Collins and Kirsey all mill around in two-points
How'd you like to be a QB trying to figure which two, or more, out of that four are coming after you?

Assuming Garret at #1 we need an offensive playmaker at #12. Frankly I would love to give the #1 to the Titans for 5 and 18.One can dream.....I could settle for Reddick at 12 though

their 2nd rounder this year....
AND 2018s 1ST ROUNDER...OR NO DEAL!!! THATS MY TERMS TAKE EM OR LEAVE EM!!!! NEXT!
Not likely-but #5 #18 and their 1st rounder next year might be tempting. I'd at least think about it.
-
5...12...18...and next years #1 yeppers I'd do that deal!!! One of the safeties at 5 ....Howard at 12 and best defensive player ay 18....at 33.... BDPA

Thou the 12th pick maybe Sashi's chance at a 1st round next season at a QB? The Titan's have built fairly well since 2012 with Kendall Wright,Mariota & 3 top lineman as 1st pick.Titans now sit well on all their defensive needs of S,CB or LB..See what a good GM can do in Tenn. & Oak when QB falls in place? Houston has gone 3 DE's, 2 WR's & 1CB since 2011..Finding that QB really matter before those old parts age out..

Or a different edge guy 5, Howard 12 and Foster or a safety from this deep draft 18, BPA 33 52 65 and next year all in on the QB.
Or we take trubs @ 5 if he's there so we get peace and quiet from the judge.

In 2014 TN sucked bad enough to draft 2nd overall in 2015 (landed Mariota). In 2015, they had the NFL worst record of 2-14 so their GM got fired. We beat them in 2014 and 2015. The new GM they hired (John Robinson) came down from the NE Patriots and his first draft was 2016. They traded back and added a ton of picks. Their record improved from 2-14 to 9-7. As much as it seems like they turned it around quickly - the fans here in Nashville were getting really frustrated with how long it was taking.
And you're right, finding that QB really mattered just like it did for the Raiders (who found their QB in round 2 after we traded up for the wrong QB). The Raiders took a while too. Last year both teams lost their QBs on the last game of the regular season. It'll be interesting to see how they bounce back.

Can it be done with no Winston or Mariota on the board? Blame our football gods..The only pick I had right in years was take Carr in 2nd. The game tape just don't feel right on any of these QB's in this draft. Where's Dak Waldo? It can happen only if your willing to take the risk? Problem is here, who falls with taking a risk & lose... Sashi or Hue??(both keeps getting us nowhere...period)

I mean, you kind of hope that we're eventually DUE for something like this to happen, right?! The thing is, if we actually get lightning to strike twice in one draft, the Browns will BE THERE. All it takes is one giant infusion of talent, and we can win those close games. We can get touchdowns instead of FG's. We can force that turnover. We can make the plays that have plagued us for so long. It doesn't take miracles, it just takes talent. Sadly, it appears it will TAKE a miracle for our team to actually draft ONE allstar, let alone TWO.

There are other paths to peace...

With Garrett and Thomas gone by 5, what Edge guy? Barnett? Feels like we've been down that road before... #5 feels like a DB pick...
#12? Same as it ever was... same as it ever was. OJH in the potential mix of impact fallers due to, IMO, QB/RB/WR overdrafting in the top 11.
Foster at 18? Not feeling his availability there. Safeties at 18? Top two will be long gone and the next level is not great value there. Were we to do the deal, it feels like #18 would be short-lived in our hands and would soon be gone for a 2018 1st and whatever 2017 pick(s) we could wrestle away... maybe a late 2nd... probably an early 3rd... almost surely a gap filling pair of mid to late 3rd and 4th picks.
Bottom half of the first just doesn't excite me... not for us... not given our needs. Some nice OL there... best in (not much of a) class. Ditto for WRs and RBs albeit in a stronger class...
As much as it seems like they turned it around quickly - the fans here in Nashville were getting really frustrated with how long it was taking.
Sounds familiar... already...

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/19084357/stacking-best-classes-nfl-draft-historyInteresting, but drafts in the past ten years are basically eliminated from consideration due to the nature of PFR's CAV.

No deal like that would be made unless it is for a QB.

Yep, that's pretty much what I said. As good as Garrett looks, there's no way. Especially for a team that is RIGHT there. Can you imagine getting a winning record AND having TWO first round picks? Hell no. Well, we can't imagine a winning record, but that's besides the point.
